Has the 1.5.x format has been frozen? (due to the beta release)
If so I might use 1.5.x a bit more.

I am running lyx on windows XP. When I try to fill in the preamble lyx crashes
every time. I can click on the text box but when I start typing lyx crashes.
I want to use the preamble option (described
here:http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/PDF#toc3). The error lyx gives says only "disabling
socket".

Read the developer list. They are definitely planning to have another
beta, but I don't know when.
