Getting text to wrap around illustrations in Lyx

2007-04-07 Thread Frederick \"FN\" Noronha

I am trying to get Lyx to wrap text around illustrations for a book.
What I notice is that if the illustration is 50% or less of the column
width, the text wraps very neatly. Otherwise, the justification of the
text goes awry. Is this some bug in Lyx, or is there some logic to it?
Tks, FN

Text deleted... but blank page remains

2007-04-07 Thread Frederick Noronha

I've deleted some text from Lyx, but the blank page remains inserted.
Probably this is because of the "track changes" setting which still
holds the text in its place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! FN

how to fix dependance errors

2007-04-07 Thread abdelkader belahcene

Hi,
I have a problem to install both latex-beamer and lyx.

the reason is that each package creates the file beamer.layout, that is
if I installed lyx-common the file is created, and i I try to install
latex-beamer I get error like this

E: /opt/etch/lyx-common_1.5.0~beta1-2_all.deb: trying to overwrite
`/usr/share/lyx/layouts/beamer.layout', which is also in package
latex-beamer

If I installed first latex-beamer, I'd get error at the installation
of lyx, I installed them both I 'd get same problem too.

I've tried also to install one of them and manually remove
beamer.layout from the directory and try to install the other. The
problem is still there

thanks for help
best regards
bela

I don't understand. Don't you have File>Export>Latex?

no way to export as latex

2007-04-07 Thread abdelkader belahcene

Hi,
I just installed the lyx-1.5beta, I am surprised that no export type
exist specially for latex. If this exists we can do others with commands
( dvips, latex2html ). the right buttons generate only ps, pdf, dvi.
Why is it omitted ??

thanks

glossary.sty and LyX

2007-04-07 Thread Nils Becker
Dear list,

I am trying to get LyX 1.4.3 to work with the LaTeX package
glossary.sty, which offers customizable abbreviation index and glossary.

Assuming my source file is mydoc.tex, one needs to call makeindex to
process a latex generated file mydoc.glo, putting out mydoc.gls.
required call:

makeindex -s mydoc.ist -t mydoc.glg -o mydoc.gls mydoc.glo

In a final latex run, this is then incorporated into the document.

I tried to trick LyX into calling makeindex in the right way.
For this, I created a dummy standard LyX index entry in the document and
a inserted a standard LyX index list.

Then, LyX is prompted to call makeindex when compliling. I tried to
modify the makeindex command in the Preferences.
The main problem is that mydoc.glo does not have the extension .idx
which LyX apparently assumes when calling makeindex.

So I finally ended up writing a wrapper script mkidxwrap.sh that strips
the .idx extension so that

mkidxwrap.sh mydoc.idx

is equivalent to the above makeindex call.

Now, the good news is that this does work for documents that are in one
piece. Unfortunately it does not work for a multipart document with
index entries in several child documents. When I use lyx -dbg external
then I get an error message of the following kind from makeindex:
parentdoc.glo: file not found.

Any suggestions or cleaner ways to make LyX call makeindex in the right way?

Cheer, Nils

Cannot start lyx in NetBSD 3.0.1

2007-04-07 Thread Alasdair Reed
Hi,

I cannot start lyx after installing in NetBSD 3.0.1
I get the following error message:

$ lyx
LyX: reconfiguring user directory
python: not found
LyX: Done!
LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass file `'

After reading around on the list as far as I can tell, the problem is lyx
cannot find python and the LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass
file `' error message is a result of that. All well and good, nowhere could I
find information on how to tell lyx where to find python. As far as I can tell
I have the correct version of python on the system Python 2.4.3 and it is
working. Here is the read-out from lyx -version

Sorry, wrong list!

It seems that the problem lies in the passed temporary cursor in
LFUN_ALL_INSETS_TOGGLE.
