documentclass missing

2007-11-14 Thread Franz Weidlinger
Hi!

Just installed Lyx. When I want to open any new template (beamer or article)
lyx says that the document class is missing. If I go to Settings - Document
class, I find that all document classes by dropdown are not available. How can
I download and integrate this missing classes? Thank you!

I'm not sure I understand. If you do not want to have a caption above/below
the table, but an entry for that table in the LOT, you can insert

\addcontentsline{lot}{table}{text for the lot}

(this will not do any numbering, though)

If you want an empty caption (i.e. just the number, no text), then just
insert an optional argument (Insert-Short Title) in the empty caption and
insert the text (for the LOT) there.

Images in child documents?

2007-11-14 Thread Joe Marshall

Hi all,

This is probably something stupid, but I've been fiddling for ages
trying to get it to work.

I have 1 master document, containing 3 child documents.

The child documents each contain a few jpg images. If I view DVI on the
child documents, the images show up fine.

When I do Ctrl+D / view DVI on the master document, instead of each
image, there is a blank frame with the name of a .eps file in the centre
of it.

I've checked in the temp directory it appears to be using ( in this case
C:\DOCUME~1\Us\LOCALS~1\Temp\lyx_tmpdir2136a02468\lyx_tmpbuf0 ), and the
.eps files are there, correctly generated from the .jpg, with the right
content inside them (they open fine in ghostview). The latex seems to be
being generated correctly as far as I can see.

So, where are my images going? Any ideas?

I've tested with 3 brand new documents with the same document class, and
just one image in each child document, and it works fine, so I don't
think it's my install, I think it must be something to do with these
particular documents, but I can't find anything obvious.

LyX 1.5.2 not outputing to DVI, PDF and PS

2007-11-14 Thread Luís Batalha
Hi there,

I have installed LyX 1.5.2 on Windows XP (running LyX-1.5.2-1-Installer.exe)
and was not able to make DVI, PS, PDF right from the start. When I try to
export one of the templates or tutorial, or whatever to one of these formats
I get these messages:

LyX: Document class not available
The layout file requested by this document, article.layout, is not usable.
This is probably because a LaTeX class or style file required by it is not
available. See the customization documentation for more information. LyX
will not be able to produce output.

I click OK and the document shows up in input mod (LyX), but when I try to
export it to one of the three formats I get this:
No information for exporting the format DVI
No information for exporting the format PDF
No information for exporting the format Postscript

When I open the document settings tab I see that all the document classes
are unavailable.

I have MikTeX 2.5 and installed and uninstalled LyX a couple of times
without success. What might be the problem and how can I deal with it?

I am new to LyX and this is probably just trivia.

Thanks,

Most likely LyX cannot find MikTeX. Is the MikTeX bin directory on your
system command path? If you open a DOS prompt and run 'kpsewhich
article.cls', does it report back the path to article class file?

If MikTeX is not on the system path, try adding it to the system path
and then reconfigure (Tools menu) and restart LyX. If MikTeX is on the
path and kpsewhich finds article.cls, try opening a DOS prompt in the
parent directory of your user directory (Help - About LyX will tell you
the user directory -- it's typically C:\Documents and
Settings\you\Application Data\lyx15\, so you want the prompt in
...\Application Data). From there, run

path to LyX\python\python.exe path to LyX\Resources\configure.py

and keep an eye on the output. Early on, it will indicate it is looking
for LaTeX, and you should get a 'yes' for latex.exe. If you do not,
it's still not seeing MikTeX, or MikTeX is somehow broken.

Hi!

Just installed Lyx. When I want to open any new template (beamer or article) lyx says that the document class is missing. If I go to Settings - Document class, I find that all document classes by dropdown are not available. How can I download and integrate this missing classes? Thank you!

First, try reconfiguring LyX from the Tools menu, then restarting. If
that doesn't help, then there is a problem with your LaTeX installation.
Did you install LaTeX? If so, what platform are you on? Windows? Mac? Linux?

LyX 1.5.2 not outputing to DVI, PDF and PS

2007-11-14 Thread Luís Batalha
Hi there,

I have installed LyX 1.5.2 on Windows XP (running LyX-1.5.2-1-Installer.exe)
and was not able to make DVI, PS, PDF right from the start. When I try to
export one of the templates or tutorial, or whatever to one of these formats
I get these messages:

"LyX: Document class not available
The layout file requested by this document, article.layout, is not usable.
This is probably because a LaTeX class or style file required by it is not
available. See the customization documentation for more information. LyX
will not be able to produce output."

I click OK and the document shows up in input mod (LyX), but when I try to
export it to one of the three formats I get this:
"No information for exporting the format DVI"
"No information for exporting the format PDF"
"No information for exporting the format Postscript"

When I open the "document settings" tab I see that all the document classes
are "unavailable".

I have MikTeX 2.5 and installed and uninstalled LyX a couple of times
without success. What might be the problem and how can I deal with it?

I am new to LyX and this is probably just trivia.

Thanks,
Luís Batalha

Strange message

2007-11-14 Thread Siegfried MEUNIER-GUTTIN-CLUZEL

Hello,
After a crash ( electrical problem ... not LyX ! ).
LyX correctly asked if I wanted to load the saved version and I accepted.
But when I asked to save the file, I had the message :
"The document was modified by an external application... do yo really
want to overwrite this document ?"

( this message can be different, I use a french version )

Is it normal ?

Siegfried.

If MikTeX is on the
path and kpsewhich finds article.cls, try opening a DOS prompt in the
parent directory of your user directory (Help -> About LyX will tell you
the user directory -- it's typically C:\Documents and
Settings\\Application Data\lyx15\, so you want the prompt in
...\Application Data). From there, run

\python\python.exe \Resources\configure.py

and keep an eye on the output. Early on, it will indicate it is looking
for LaTeX, and you should get a 'yes' for latex.exe. If you do not,
it's still not seeing MikTeX, or MikTeX is somehow broken.
