Add line to latex preamble before documentclass-command?

2008-09-26 Thread Christian Richter
Hello Lyx-Community,

I have a problem with the Lineno-Package (for Line numbering) in
combination with the RevTex4(article) documentclass.

RevTex4 states that it is incompatible with the lineno-package.

Nevertheless on
http://fourforces.wordpress.com/2008/04/24/add-line-numbers-using-linenosty-in-revtex-4/
a workaround is published:

It is necessary to put the Line
\RequirePackage{lineno}
in the Latex preamble before(!!!) the documentclass-command!

My question is now: How can I add a line to the beginning of the
preamble? In Lyx the use-specified commands appear always at the end
of the preamble..

Thanks,

only opens the citation-insert dialogue (but ignores the given

I tried , '', [], {}, :, ... all to no avail.

Could someone give me a one-line example?

Also, the -c option does not work for me. Ex.:

fully colored table cells with booktabs an colortbl

2008-09-26 Thread Johannes Knaus

How can I achieve fully colored table cells using booktabs (i.e.

When I put ERT \cellcolor{gray} inside a table cell it appears gray
the output but there remains some white space between the gray box and
the upper and lower table line (see attached screenshot).
Is it possible to fill the cell seemlessly / to color also this
remaining white space?
Within the Additional Space dialog I have already set anything to
None.

Wrap normal LyX text in two ERT boxes?

In order to enter into the brackets of my commands some complex text (with

Plain LyX text and so on... [ERT][MyCommand{] My LyX-friendly text with

i.e. to wrap in ERT just the MyCommand and the {} brackets at the

is there a reason not to do it? (weird things always have)

another question:
is there a manner to teach LyX how to show (or format) the text without the

You can create a new layout file (modifying whichever one you currently
use), and in it define a new environment that wraps the content in
\MyCommand{}. Then you can pick the environment from the Environment
list just like enumerated lists, titles etc. Be aware (per another
thread) that LyX requires the layout and document class files to have
the same name. So if you are using, say, the standard article class,
then you must either add the environment to the existing article.layout
file or make a copy (say 'article2.layout'), modify it, then copy
article.cls to article2.cls, run texhash so that LaTeX can find
article2.cls, then reconfigure and restart LyX so that LyX can find the
article2 document class.

double spaced documents have too much white space around display math, according to my students

2008-09-26 Thread Paul Johnson
Students are having fun learning lyx and LaTeX, but some are bothered
that when they use double-spaced text, the display-math equations have
too much space around them. They want a single line equation to be
lined up on the ordinary double-spacing, with no extra vertical space.

We have fiddled around with document classes, and we notice that with
article(amsmath), then the white space around display math equations
in double spaced documents is smaller, more to our liking. However,
we don't like the style of Header and Section labels in AMS documents,
we like the style in the ordinary article class.

Can you point us at the LaTeX magic to fiddle display math vertical
spacing in the article class?

http://fourforces.wordpress.com/2008/04/24/add-line-numbers-using-linenosty-in-revtex-4/
a workaround is published:

It is necessary to put the Line
\RequirePackage{lineno}
in the Latex preamble before(!!!) the documentclass-command!

My question is now: How can I add a line to the beginning of the
preamble? In Lyx the use-specified commands appear always at the end
of the preamble..

Thanks,

The only way I see is to export to LaTeX, insert the line in
the LaTeX source and run latex (and maybe bibtex and latex again and
again) by hand.

How to use lyxclient ?

2008-09-26 Thread Konrad Hofbauer

Hello,

I am sure it is documented somewhere, but I can't find it.

How do I use lyxclient with LFUNs that need parameters, e.g.
"math-insert \alpha" ?

For example:

lyxclient: Connected to /tmp/lyx_tmpdir217681rCYl/lyxsocket
math-insert \alpha
INFO:math-insert:

... does not insert the \alpha, or
dhcp-43-57:/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS khofbaue$ ./lyxclient
lyxclient: Connected to /tmp/lyx_tmpdir217681rCYl/lyxsocket

citation-insert Access:2000ha
INFO:citation-insert:

only opens the citation-insert dialogue (but ignores the given
citation). It works in the minibuffer.

I tried "", '', [], {}, :, ... all to no avail.

Could someone give me a one-line example?

Also, the -c option does not work for me. Ex.:
 ./lyxclient -c citation-insert
does nothing.

Thanks for you help,
/Konrad

Günter,

Would it work if he made a little layout file with the statement in there, and
used the layout file?

No. LyX outputs the document class first, no matter what else you do.

However, you can define your own documentclass that adds the line as
prefix.

But the best would be to ask the authors to cooperate and fix their mess

Template remains unavailable

2008-09-26 Thread Jef Patat

Hi,

I try to modify amsbook.layout but whatever I do the layout always ends up
listed unavailable in the document class list. Even if I just copy the file
amsbook.layout and just rename the filename and let Lyx reconfigure.

what am I missing here?

thanks,

Jef

fully colored table cells with booktabs an colortbl

2008-09-26 Thread Johannes Knaus

Hello,

How can I achieve fully colored table cells using booktabs (i.e.
"formal" table option) and colortbl?
When I put ERT \cellcolor{gray} inside a table cell it appears gray
the output but there remains some white space between the gray box and
the upper and lower table line (see attached screenshot).
Is it possible to fill the cell seemlessly / to color also this
remaining white space?
Within the "Additional Space" dialog I have already set anything to
"None".
<>

Thanks for your help.

Johannes

Wrap normal LyX text in two ERT boxes?

2008-09-26 Thread H

Hello,
I'm using some simple but tricky ERT code in different environments, just to
format some text.
In order to enter into the brackets of my commands some complex text (with
italics, characters like à è é, umlaut and so on) which is already defined
and correct shown in plain LyX text, I use it in this way:

Plain LyX text and so on... [ERT][MyCommand{] My LyX-friendly text with
à è ò and so on [ERT][}] ... Plain text and so on...

i.e. to wrap in ERT just the MyCommand and the "{}" brackets at the
beginning and end of the text (2 ERT boxes)

My question is:
is there a reason not to do it? (weird things always have)

another question:
is there a manner to teach LyX how to show (or format) the text without the
ERT box, just as it do with italics and so on?

thanks

LyX assumes that xxx.layout uses xxx.cls, so if you rename a copy of
amsbook.layout, you also need to rename a copy of amsbook.cls the same
way, run texhash or equivalent to update the LaTeX file name database,
then reconfigure and restart LyX.

I do similar things routinely (using existing LaTeX commands more often
than commands I wrote), without trouble.

Students are having fun learning lyx and LaTeX, but some are bothered
that when they use double-spaced text, the display-math equations have
"too much space" around them.
