Parallel texts and LyX

2010-01-30 Thread Guido Milanese
Dear Experts,
as many among you know, the package 'ledpar', written by Peter Wilson,
makes possible the typesetting of books with a facing translation or a
facing commentary, e.g. odd pages English text -- even pages French
translation.
My questions are:
(*) is there any support for this package in LyX?
(*) if not, can you suggest any other suitable solution for this kind of
texts in LyX?
(*) same questions for parallel texts in columns and not in facing
pages.

Many thanks!

Hi all,

I'm using the beamer class and I need to repeat the first slide at the
end of presentation. In plain LaTeX one can do the following

\documentclass{beamer}
\title[Short title]{The title}

\author[Authors]{Author 1 \and Author 2}
\date{\today}
\begin{document}
\begin{frame}[label=firstframe]
\titlepage
\end{frame}
...
\againframe{firstframe}
\end{document}

Which uses the againframe command. The thing is, how can I label the

first slide for then use the againframe in LyX?

Bests

Add this to the preamble of your document:

\renewcommand\makebeamertitle{\frame[label=mytitle]{\maketitle}}

Then add a final slide using the AgainFrame environment (from the
environment list) and type 'mytitle' as the label.

queries re images

2010-01-30 Thread jsl

I'm teaching myself Lyx by typesetting a book.

Two things I haven't been able to figure out.

1. The title page has the title, a picture in a float and the author name.
These should all fit on one A4 page (easily). However Lyx's insists on
putting a page break after the title. How can I get all these elements on
one page.

2. In putting the image in a float I call up a caption for the image. How do
I not have a caption for the image? Later I will want to have captions that
are simply descriptive and don't have Figure X in the front of them. How
do I turn off the automatic numbering?

Thanks

I recommend to use a KOMA-script document class. Then use the option titlepage. Attached is an
example.

Note that the title image must not be a float but just the figure. Otherwise you image might float
to another page than the title page.

You have 2 choices:
- don't use a float
- use a float but delete the caption

do I turn off the automatic numbering?

This is tricky because this is quite unusual when tpesetting. Have a look in the documentation of
the LaTeX-package caption for a description how the numbering and label Figure can be suppressed.
