options worse. You can make TeX give greater weight to the prevention of
widows and orphans by setting certain variables, but I don't now

Re: txfonts integral sign replaced with intersection operator

2010-07-17 Thread ShayR

Just as a follow-up for anyone who’s interested...

It appears that the txfonts/pxfonts packages are not compatible with the
esint package that LyX uses for mathmode.

To disable it:

Go to Document > Settings...

Go to the ‘Math Options’ preferences pane.

Untick both the ‘Use esint package automatically’ and ‘Use esint package’.

It appears that the \varint command I referred to earlier is part of the
esint package, so it is no longer available.

Hope this helps!

Shay

Well first thanks for all your replies. I appreciate it.

I managed to get an extension regarding my report till next week thought with
additional reports to write. I did the most obvious solution & thats using
pencil, paper & a scanner. I just installed Dia & will try it tomorrow
hopefully. It seems user-friendly, but in case do you suggest any guide or help
file or is the documentation enough ?

By the way, it seems it doesn't contains any sheets for physics besides
"circuit" & "ChemEng". Can you help in this please as I have other labs soon
enough in Mechanics & Thermodynamics & Atomic physics?

  thanks

As others have suggested...
for low learning curve: stencil sets and pen/paper + a scanner
for quick but limited computer aided drawing including circuits: dia [can
export to TeX with
pstricks or one of the image formats]

for computer aided schematics (2D circuit diagrams): gschem from the gEDA
set of tools [output to an
image format]
under RHEL/CentOS after you have enabled the EPEL repository it is only a
`yum install geda-gschem`
away. I also suggest installing geda-docs.
AFAIK it is also in fedora in these packages.
It took a couple of hours to get fairly comfortable with it for me, but I
had not used a circuit
editor before, only DIA and a couple of CAD programs.

href-insert which is different---right?

Yes. Only some insets have their own functions. Ones that do not are
inserted using the generic inset-insert. The syntax here is ugly, I'm
afraid, but it just happens to be specifically documented for ref under
Help>LyX Functions, LFUN_INSET_INSERT. The principle behind the syntax
is that you basically have to enter what would appear in the LyX file
itself.

For accents, your answer led me to the Shortcuts window under "Cursor, Mouse and Editing functions.
This solved my problem very nicely for \H{o} since "accent-hungarian-umlaut" produces the
latex code \H{}. But then I was surprised to see that "accent-acute" did not produce the
latex code \'{}, although character in both LyX and LaTex source was accented. I had the same problem
with accent-umlaut. Is it possible to change this by using a different LyX function?

accent-acute and accent-umlaut seem to demand an argument. So you can
have "accent-umlaut a", or o or e, but not just "accent-umlaut". That
said, as Bennett mentioned, there are standard Mac ways to enter such
characters, and LyX is supposed to obey them.

But now I have a new question. What is the mini-buffer? How do I find out
about it? I searched the User's guide, but found nothing.

I guess the official name is "Command Buffer", since it lives at
View>Toolbars>Command Buffer, at least on Linux (and here can be
accessed as Alt-x). Then you can enter commands by hand. This is good
for testing things before assigning keystrokes, etc, too.

These can be entered as unicode, actually, and there must be some way to do

On Mac, the standard way to enter "ó" is: e o. This works in LyX
as well: you can basically type special characters using Mac
standards.

I don't know how to get the equivalent of \H{o}, but that's just my
ignorance. (How would you do it in TextEdit.app? Doesn't that work in
LyX?)

There is an older LyX icon that seems to turn up here for some reason

Hi,

I am using the new LyX 1.6.7. I have downloaded and installed the new
beamer package 3.10 (also made a reconfiguration). When I try to enter
text in a section or frame element, LyX crashes. Tried it out with
diffrent documents (e.g. beamers own LyX template
"generic-ornate-15min-45min.de").

I am using the windows version. My OS is Windows 7 (64 Bit).
