Re: txfonts integral sign replaced with intersection operator
Just as a follow-up for anyone who’s interested... It appears that the txfonts/pxfonts packages are not compatible with the esint package that LyX uses for mathmode. To disable it: Go to Document > Settings... Go to the ‘Math Options’ preferences pane. Untick both the ‘Use esint package automatically’ and ‘Use esint package’. It appears that the \varint command I referred to earlier is part of the esint package, so it is no longer available. Hope this helps! Widows... and orphans
Is there any way to avoid widows and orphans showing up in Lyx? Thanks! FN Frederick Noronha +91-9822122436 +91-832-2409490

I appreciate it. I managed to get an extension regarding my report till next week thought with additional reports to write. I did the most obvious solution & thats using pencil, paper & a scanner. I just installed Dia & will try it tomorrow hopefully. It seems user-friendly, but in case do you suggest any guide or help file or is the documentation enough ? By the way, it seems it doesn't contains any sheets for physics besides "circuit" & "ChemEng". I also suggest installing geda-docs. AFAIK it is also in fedora in these packages. It took a couple of hours to get fairly comfortable with it for me, but I had not used a circuit editor before, only DIA and a couple of CAD programs. -- Todd Denniston Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) Harnessing the Power of Technology for the Warfighter

Only some insets have their own functions. Ones that do not are inserted using the generic inset-insert. The syntax here is ugly, I'm afraid, but it just happens to be specifically documented for ref under Help>LyX Functions, LFUN_INSET_INSERT. The principle behind the syntax is that you basically have to enter what would appear in the LyX file itself. For accents, your answer led me to the Shortcuts window under "Cursor, Mouse and Editing functions. This solved my problem very nicely for \H{o} since "accent-hungarian-umlaut" produces the latex code \H{}. But then I was surprised to see that "accent-acute" did not produce the latex code \'{}, although character in both LyX and LaTex source was accented. I had the same problem with accent-umlaut. Is it possible to change this by using a different LyX function? accent-acute and accent-umlaut seem to demand an argument. So you can have "accent-umlaut a", or o or e, but not just "accent-umlaut". That said, as Bennett mentioned, there are standard Mac ways to enter such characters, and LyX is supposed to obey them. But now I have a new question. What is the mini-buffer? How do I find out about it? I searched the User's guide, but found nothing. I guess the official name is "Command Buffer", since it lives at View>Toolbars>Command Buffer, at least on Linux (and here can be accessed as Alt-x). Then you can enter commands by hand. This is good for testing things before assigning keystrokes, etc, too. This works in LyX as well: you can basically type special characters using Mac standards. I don't know how to get the equivalent of \H{o}, but that's just my ignorance. (How would you do it in TextEdit.app? Doesn't that work in LyX?) BH

It would be simple, graphically strong, but also unusual, since few icons are the same as the name of the application. Just a thought. There is an older LyX icon that seems to turn up here for some reason and that just has the letters, more or less. rh

Re: LyX + Beamer + MikTex 2008 = fail
Hi, I am using the new LyX 1.6.7. I have downloaded and installed the new beamer package 3.10 (also made a reconfiguration). When I try to enter text in a section or frame element, LyX crashes. Tried it out with diffrent documents (e.g. beamers own LyX template "generic-ornate-15min-45min.de"). I am using the windows version. My OS is Windows 7 (64 Bit). bye, Falk Problemsignatur: Problemereignisname: APPCRASH Anwendungsname: lyx.exe Anwendungsversion:0.0.0.0 Anwendungszeitstempel:4c3e0cfe Fehlermodulname: MSVCR100.dll Fehlermodulversion: 10.0.30319.1 Fehlermodulzeitstempel: 4ba1dbbe Ausnahmecode: 4015 Ausnahmeoffset: 0008d635 Betriebsystemversion: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48 Gebietsschema-ID: 1031 Zusatzinformation 1: 649d Zusatzinformation 2: 649d7b07dda30f8fed0f5c46fc36655c Zusatzinformation 3: 99e6 Zusatzinformation 4: 99e6f672e53eb8135db26dc9bde83734 lyx: SIGSEGV signal caught Sorry, you have found a bug in LyX.
