Import von Excel-Tabellen in Lyx
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, ich sitze zur Zeit an meiner Bachelorarbeit und versuche Messdaten, welche ich in Excel bearbeitet habe in Lyx zu importieren. Also besser gesagt, ganze Tabellen. This will create a new LyX file with the table in it. From there you can cut and paste it. I have made an example screencast (see it at http://screencast.com/t/NThmOTBj) that shows the full process of conversion and reformating: 1. I export the Excel file as a CSV file 2. I show the resulting CSV file contents 3. I import the CSV file in LyX 4. I reformat the table (by default it has no lines) 5. Two questions to help with resolving the issue: 1. What is in your preamble (Settings:LaTeX preamble) ? It is empty. 2. Did you enable support for Hyperref ? Yes. OK, I figured it out by trying it on my end :) Basically, the latest moderncv class is very different from the class supported by the LyX layout. Let's call LyX's support for moderncv obsolete. See here for a LaTeX template: ftp://ctan.cms.math.ca/macros/latex/contrib/moderncv/examples/template.tex The main info is at: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/moderncv/ The moderncv class is very difficult to support with LyX because it has many commands which require more than one arguments. Right now, LyX does not have a good support for these without using ERT (Evil Red Text, basically LaTeX straight code). The moderncv class is rather easy to use on its own if you follow the template example from the distribution. I attached an example LyX (1.6.7) usage of moderncv. It contains practically nothing because the layout is for a previous version of moderncv. For instance, the LyX layout does not support itemized lists, while the class does (see the example template). The example shows several things: 1. The LaTeX preamble must contain the \firstname and \familyname commands, as well as other identifying info (the cause of your undefined control sequence is these commands missing) 2. Commands that require extra arguments must have the arguments separated by the }{ ERT block which is a hack to cause multiple arguments to work 3. Some commands (\cvline) are unsupported by the Layout, so you have to enter them completely as ERT. If you want to use moderncv, it's really one of these classes that are very poorly suited to LyX. Your document will be more legible if you use the LaTeX straight code template than if you try to hack LyX to work with it. If you feel adventurous, you could upgrade the moderncv LyX layout to support the latest moderncv version and all its commands. It would take several hours and still would require the }{ in some places, but you could cut down on the ERT significantly. Appendices and Bibliographie
Hi, I am currently writing a book with Lyx (book class). It finish with an appendix (it is a normal chapter with a "start appendices here" before) et then a bibliography (simply insert TOC). When a produce the final document, in the table of content, the entry (and the internal link of the PDF output) of the bibliography points to the first page of the appendix and not the first page of the bibliography. I suppose that there is something to configure somewhere to avoid that, anyone a clue ? Thanks -- Dr. Ir. Pascal Francq BELGIUM signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Problem with citations : (author?) in front of each citation in text
Dear Lyx users, While writing my thesis, I am facing a problem with the bibliography natbit within lyx. I am constantly having an "(author?)" in front of each citation I am using in the text. If anyone would know how to solve this issue, I would very grateful. Many thanks, Nan

Import von Excel-Tabellen in Lyx
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, ich sitze zur Zeit an meiner Bachelorarbeit und versuche Messdaten, welche ich in Excel bearbeitet habe in Lyx zu importieren. Also besser gesagt, ganze Tabellen.

I do not speak german, so the answer is in English. Use Microsoft Bing language tools (http://www.microsofttranslator.com) or Google Translate ( http://translate.google.com) to get a translation. The question was basically: "How do I import tables from Excel into Lyx. When I copy directly, it all goes in one cell". To import a table in LyX, you have to use the Import submenu of the File menu. There, you can import a "CSV" file (comma-separated values) which Excel can write. This will create a new LyX file with the table in it. From there you can cut and paste it. I have made an example screencast (see it at http://screencast.com/t/NThmOTBj) that shows the full process of conversion and reformating: 1. I export the Excel file as a "CSV" file 2. I show the resulting CSV file contents 3. I import the CSV file in LyX 4. I reformat the table (by default it has no lines) 5. I change the language of the contents (it may not be the right language by default, which is why the cells have blue-underlined values) 6. I copy & paste the new table in a LyX document Hope this helps. Best regards, Tennessee Carmel-Veilleux, ing. jr. Rotata sideways error
Hi I have a problem rotating a floats containing pictures. I tried rotating by right clicking, "Rotate sideways", but I get an error message when compiling saying Latex Error: Command \newfloat already defined Not rotating the floats causes no problems when compilling and I can rotate the picture inside the float by the "rotate graphics" option in the graphics tab when clicking on the figure, but my figure text is not rotated then which I would like it to be. Heres my preamble: \renewcommand{\nomname}{Abbreviations \& Symbols} \settrimmedsize{250mm}{176mm}{*} \setlength{\trimedge}{\stockwidth} \addtolength{\trimedge}{-\paperwidth} \maxsecnumdepth{subsubsection} \usepackage{pdfpages} \usepackage{booktabs} \usepackage{appendix} \usepackage[section]{placeins} \setlrmarginsandblock{*}{3.5cm}{0.75} \setulmarginsandblock{3cm}{*}{1.2} \checkandfixthelayout[nearest] \usepackage[small,bf]{caption} \usepackage{latexsym} \raggedbottom \renewcommand{\topfraction}{0.85} \renewcommand{\textfraction}{0.1} \renewcommand{\floatpagefraction}{0.85} \hyphenpenalty=2000 \tolerance=1000 I use the memoir class Any thoughts? I want you to know I found a good solution. The BibTeX exporter in zotero includes stuff that most biblio styles will include, even though you don't want them. The fix is a better exporter from zotero. The "low fat" and "non fat" bibtex formats are just the fix I needed. I found this by searching in the zotero forum, the install is easy, just drop a java script file in zotero/translators, and then use it to export to bibtex. zotero-bibtex-sb is at this address: http://github.com/commonman/zotero-bibtex-sb/blob/5d51eb68719b5415761af12dbea483649f8141c2/README.org In case that link doesn't come through the email , just google "zotero bibtex non fat" and you come to the right link at the top. This does not work with LyZ (zotero plugin for LyX) because LyZ doesn't have a place where you specify the translator, it always uses the default. Probably would be easy to fix, though. pj -- Paul E. lyx with cv modern doc class on ubuntu 10.04
Hi, i am using lyx (1.6.5) with ubuntu 10.04. I am trying to use the modern cv document class to do a resume. When i try to compile it i get error: undefined control sequence \begin{document} The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. I tried to google but did not find anything helping me to resolve this. Any insight is appreciated. thanks matt

Can you give us the Table (CSV) -> LyX converter configuration command (Menu Preferences:File Handling:Converters), your actual LyX version from the "Help:About" menu and whether your LYX_HOME/Resources/scripts/csv2lyx.py contains the string "#csv2lyx created this file \lyxformat 276" ? My screencast was made with LyX 1.6.7 and my CSV to LyX command configuration was "python -tt $$s/scripts/csv2lyx.py $$i $$o". The intermediate file created by the csv2lyx.py script should be of a format compatible with your current LyX, which would mean that lyx2lyx never would need to be called. lyx2lyx would be called if you were converting from a file created by an older version of LyX, which should not be the case.
