Highlighting Inproceedings references

Re: bibliography
Cristina, I use jab-ref to manage my bibliographies for documents I create with LyX on Windows XP and Windows, and occasionally Kubuntu. I have personally never tried to configure the LyX pipe stuff or any of that. I do exactly as Richard suggests, InsertLists/TOCBibTeX Bibliography, then select the BibTeX file and whatever bibliography style you want to use. That does everything I need. Then, if I want a citation, I just use insertcitation. I'm guessing the extra stuff is to insert the citation while in jab-ref or something. I've never seen the need though. For this part, it's always worked for me right out of the box on both Windows installations as well as Kubuntu. I do have to admit though, I had trouble figuring out how to add citations at first, but once I understood that I had to actually place the bibliography in the file first, it made a lot of sense. Sweave - No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex).
I have just installed, Lyx/Sweave on ubuntu 10.04 on an Asus eeepc 901. I have upgraded to Lyx 1.6.7 using the repository at http://ppa.launchpad.net/lyx-outline-devel/lyx-stable/ubuntu Followed the instructions at http://ggorjan.blogspot.com/2010/01/lyx-sweave-on-ubuntu-karmic.html to install SWeave etc, as I have done several times before, checked that all the files are where the instructions say they should be, done the texhash/reconfigure but get an erro:r No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex). When I try to compile a file with this text test

Re: Sweave - No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex).
Liviu, Thanks, all it says is +Read the file doc/LaTeXConfig.lyx for more information. gra...@eeepc-linux:~$ lyx Error: Couldn't export file No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex). If I just use article class it compiles OK, its just when I change the class to article Sweave noweb that I get the error, so it seems an Sweave issue. Graham

Have a look at this section of the wiki: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXServer Follow the instructions for your platform, and it should work. Re: Sweave - No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex).
Liviu, I have managed to fix this. The preferences file had downloaded as preferences.txt. But looking at my other installs, I noticed it has no extension, so I deleted the ",txt", and everything now works. Can't say I remember deleting this before, but its now working. Thanks for your help.. Graham

I.e.: Insert>Lists/TOC>BibTeX Bibliography, then select the BibTeX file and whatever bibliography style you want to use. Without that, LyX cannot access citations. If you have done that, the problem may be that the LyX pipe is not set up correctly. I do not know how to do this on Windows, so if you are on Windows someone else will have to tell you. And I do not even know if it works on Windows in 1.6.x, though I know it will in 2.0. Anyway, on Linux or OSX, you can do this: 1. The LyX part. Go to Tools>Preferences>Paths. In the "LyXServer Pipe" field enter whatever you want, really. I have: /home/rgheck/.lyxpipe but you can put the pipe wherever you wish. LyX will then create two pipes on startup, one with the extension ".in" and one with the extension ".out". 2. The JabRef part. Go to Options>Preferences>External Programs and enter exactly the same thing you did in LyX. So I have "/home/rgheck/.lyxpipe". Now restart LyX and JabRef, so the new preferences take effect. Richard
Problem using nicefrac in lyx

I 've already tried that (before posting) but the images have to be smaller (too small for me) to fit in an A4 page. Is there really no option to "center" a graphical object? Thanks a lot, Nikos

So you have not installed the LaTeX-package "units" to your LaTeX system. If you are on Windows all packages needed by LyX should automatically be installed when LyX is started the first time. I therefore assume that you are on Linux. If so, use the TeXLive package manager to install units. (babel is not to blame here and amsmath is by default installed on all LaTeX systems.) regards Uwe
Highlighting Inproceedings references
I am writing a review paper at the moment and need to prune out a few conference citations. To see where I've used them (so I can see which ones are really useful and which can be junked) I'd like to highlight all citations that are to Inproceedings entries. Is this possible in Lyx? Thanks, Joe

Nikos Alexandris felis.uni-freiburg.de> writes: > > I 've already tried that (before posting) but the images have to be smaller > (too small for me) to fit in an A4 page. Is that because there is extra white space within/between table cells? That space can be reduced. > Is there really no option to "center" > a graphical object? Other than a table, the only solution I know is to put each image in a box (minipage will do), set the box width and/or height appropriately, leave the vertical content alignment at top (default) and set the vertical box alignment to "middle" (every box). /Paul

Not really, and not in LaTeX either, unless you do something to your bst (bibliography style) file. That wouldn't be terribly hard, but editing the BibTeX language is not for the meek. That said, maybe you can use the citation list in the outline view to do what you need to do: Document>Outline, then choose "List of Citations" from the dropbox at the top. rh

Thanks, that might help. Joe

If you have in your bibfile not only the references referred to in the document, use tools in jabref and New subdata base based on aux file which gives you only those references which you have cited in the docu. To find the actual citations in the docu, use Richards hint: That said, maybe you can use the citation list in the outline view to do what you need to do: Document>Outline, then choose "List of Citations" from the dropbox at the top. Re: bibliography
Cristina, I use jab-ref to manage my bibliographies for documents I create with LyX on Windows XP and Windows, and occasionally Kubuntu. I have personally never tried to configure the LyX pipe stuff or any of that. I do exactly as Richard suggests, "Insert>Lists/TOC>BibTeX Bibliography, then select the BibTeX file and whatever bibliography style you want to use. " That does everything I need. Then, if I want a citation, I just use insert>citation.
