Lyx Users: The output results for my Lyx documents are pale and not sharp I am not sure what would be the proper terms to describe the problem. But as an example I exported an open office document to a pdf. and the output looked different from the the output I get from lyx exporting pdflatex.

Try changing the font of your LyX document. To do this, open the document, and then open the document menu and choose the settings item. Now choose the fonts page, and choose something for the Roman font. To get the default font but less pixelated (what you call pale), choose Latin Modern
