If I had wanted, I could have specified a CSS file for elyxer to use and customize appearance, but this is a proof of concept and I didn't want to complicate matters. So I just did the simplest possible elyxer command to convert lastchance.lyx to test.html: [clip] calibre ./test.html [clip] So now it's converted. But not saved. Before saving I'm going to make sure it's OK, so in Calibre I make sure my book is still highlighted on the list, go over to the right, and click the EPUB link. A nice ePub viewer pops up with my book in it. The formatting is plain vanilla, with no space between paragraphs nor indentation at the beginning of paragraphs, and there are a couple other minor problems, but it basically looks good. Sha-Zam I got spaces between the paragraphs. First, it should have been obvious that in the LyX document properties I should have separated paragraphs by space instead of by first line indentation. Just doing that provides space between the paragraph (and gets rid of the indented first line, which I think in an ePub is ugly. Only trouble is, elyxer's conversion ignores whether the LyX defined inter paragraph space is Smallskip, Medskip, Largeskip, or even Custom 10em! Kludge time. I downloaded elyxer's default CSS file, http://www.nongnu.org/elyxer/lyx.css, and added this one line to the definition of div.Standard: margin-top:2em; Then I ran elyxer with the --css option to use the modified CSS file on my hard disk. This gives JUST the right interparagraph space in the ePub. 1em is too little, 5em is too much, 2em is perfect in my opinion. Festive! By the way, if you open the resulting book in Sigil and look at its CSS, you see that margin-top=2em right in the definition of .Standard. Just speaking for myself, I think LyX is the best ePub authoring environment imaginable because you want your ePub formatting absolutely uniform, entirely styles-based, with no one-off manipulations or fingerpainting. And it just so happens that consistency and styles-based authoring are what LyX does the best. Good to know! If you want we can work through the issues one by one. While I am not ready to devote time to an --epub switch in eLyXer (which produces EPUB-clean HTML), as present in the feature wish-list, I would not mind adding features to eLyXer which allow it to better process all HTML files. For example, the author is probably taken from a META tag which eLyXer is not producing right now. It would be easy to add. Alex.

Importing excel/gnumeric to LyX
Hi! When trying to import and .xls or .gnumeric to LyX 2.0 I get the error message: "no information for converting gnumeric format files to latex. Define a converter in the preferences". I understand what it asks of me, but I can't seem to figure out how to define the converter. I have installed gnumeric on my computer. Really hoping that someone is able to helt me with this! Thank you very much in advance. - Christian Wilhelmsen

I'm using linux (debian testing), so maybe your system is different. -- David L. OK. I believe this is exactly the bug I reported at http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/7741 A temporary solution is to change your UI language to default instead of French (see http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/7741#comment:2) Regards, Yihui -- Yihui XiePhone: 515-294-2465 Web: http://yihui.name Department of Statistics, Iowa State University 2215 Snedecor Hall, Ames, IA On Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 8:03 AM, Guillaume Avenin wrote: > Thank you for your answer > I tried again but with french accent (le titre est "équations > structurelles ") compilation failed > > File ended while scanning use of \title. > <*> Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex *** (job aborted, no legal \end found) > > with non accent character no trouble (title become "structural equation") > without sweave block no problem in french > the debug message is : > > 08:48:27.463: Visionnement en cours... > 08:48:27.465: (buffer-view: ⌘R) > 08:48:27.499: Rscript --verbose --no-save --no-restore > "/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/scripts/lyxsweave.R" > "/var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/""Les_e__quations_structurelles.Rnw" > "/var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/""Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex" > ISO-8859-15 "/Users/glfxxx/Dropbox/projets/SEM incertitude med/Lyx/" > 08:48:27.518: running > 08:48:27.518: '/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.12/Resources/bin/R > --slave --no-restore --no-save --no-restore > --file=/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/scripts/lyxsweave.R --args > /var/folders/vs > 08:48:27.518: > /wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/Les_e__quations_structurelles.Rnw > /var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/Les_e__quations_struct > 08:48:27.518: urelles.tex ISO-8859-15' > 08:48:27.518: > 08:48:27.989: Pendant le dmarrage - Messages d'avis : > 08:48:27.990: 1: Setting LC_CTYPE failed, using "C" > 08:48:27.990: 2: Setting LC_COLLATE failed, using "C" > 08:48:27.991: 3: Setting LC_TIME failed, using "C" > 08:48:27.991: 4: Setting LC_MESSAGES failed, using "C" > 08:48:28.431: NULL > 08:48:28.437: Writing to file > /var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex > 08:48:28.440: Processing code chunks ... > 08:48:28.467: 1 : term verbatim > 08:48:28.483: > 08:48:28.483: Vous pouvez maintenant lancer LaTeX sur > '/var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex' > 08:48:28.505: Message d'avis : > 08:48:28.505: In readLines(f[1L], warn = FALSE) : > 08:48:28.506: entre incorrecte trouve dans la connexion en entre > '/var/folders/vs/wndjjn8n28d13x3mzx5vrtk8gp/T/lyx_tmpdir.xJL407/lyx_tmpbuf2/Les_e__quations_structurelles.Rnw' > 08:48:28.511: pdflatex "Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex" > 08:48:28.894: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.11 (TeX Live 2010) > 08:48:28.894: restricted \write18 enabled. > 08:48:28.995: entering extended mode > 08:48:29.006: (./Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex > 08:48:29.006: LaTeX2e <2009/09/24> > 08:48:29.018: Babel and hyphenation patterns for english, dumylang, > nohyphenation, ge > 08:48:29.019: rman-x-2009-06-19, ngerman-x-2009-06-19, ancientgreek, ibycus, > arabic, armenian > 08:48:29.019: , basque, bulgarian, catalan, pinyin, coptic, croatian, czech, > danish, dutch, u > 08:48:29.019: kenglish, usenglishmax, esperanto, estonian, farsi, finnish, > french, galician, > 08:48:29.019: german, ngerman, swissgerman, monogreek, greek, hungarian, > icelandic, assamese, > 08:48:29.019: bengali, gujarati, hindi, kannada, malayalam, marathi, oriya, > panjabi, tamil, > 08:48:29.019: telugu, indonesian, interlingua, irish, italian, kurmanji, > lao, latin, latvian, > 08:48:29.019: lithuanian, mongolian, mongolianlmc, bokmal, nynorsk, polish, > portuguese, roma > 08:48:29.020: nian, russian, sanskrit, serbian, slovak, slovenian, spanish, > swedish, turkish, > 08:48:29.020: turkmen, ukrainian, uppersorbian, welsh, loaded. > 08:48:29.020: > 08:48:29.258: Erreur au visionnement du format : > pdf2/Users/Shared/LyX/lyx-2.0.0/src/support/Systemcall.cpp(238): Systemcall: > 'pdflatex "Les_e__quations_structurelles.tex"' finished with exit code 1 > 08:49:14.336: (dialog-toggle progress) > 08:51:41.933: Sauvegarde automatique > 08:56:41.933: Sauvegarde automatique > > bests regards > Le 8 sept. 2011 à 22:58, Yihui Xie a écrit : > > LyX 2.0 (or the latest 2.0.1) should do reasonably well in handling > different languages. Create a new file and save it somewhere (say, your desktop). Does File > Export > PDF (pdflatex) create a .tex file of the same name alongside it? 3. If you right-click the LyX icon and run it as an administrator, does the same problem occur? Paul

How to use nomencl-insert?
According to the docs (LFUN): LFUN_NOMENCL_INSERT ActionInserts Nomenclature entry. NotionIt automatically takes the word on the cursor position if no symbol is given. Syntaxnomencl-insert [] I am trying to bind a key to create a nomenclature entry for "the word on the cursor position" (see above), so that I can then just start typing the description in the dialog. nomencl-insert brings up the dialog but ignores any highlighted text, or any "word on the cursor position". (using Lyx 2.0.0 on Win7 64bit) Can anybody help? Thanks, Lisa
