Re: Getting lyx to recognise biber

2012-03-21 Thread Roey Angel
Thanks for the tip, Scott.
I managed to get the lyx 2.0.3 working but I'm still getting that error
Package keyval Error: hash undefined.
Also, after I revert back to bibtex8 (by changing to backend=bibtex8 in the
preamble and changing to Bibliography generator bibtex8 in Document setting) lyx
won't process the bibliography. It doesnt give an error, it simply runs through
and then gives a document without ref. list with the refs. in bibtex code
format.
To fix it I have to delete the \bibliography{} line in the preamble and then put
it back.

Any ideas why that it happening?

The other problem I have that my references under bibtex8 look wrong.
my preamble line is:
\usepackage[style=authoryear,natbib=true,backend=bibtex8]{biblatex}

but the document output looks like this
...make up as much as 44% of the land surface Verstraete and Schwartz(1991)

instead of
...make up as much as 44% of the land surface (Verstraete and Schwartz 1991)
as I would expect and as is shown in:

How to get longtables to work?

Hi

After reading http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Modules

The module has unfortunately not appeared in the documents- settings and

LyX on Windows with UNC home directories

2012-03-21 Thread Matthias Hunstig
Dear LyX users and developers,

LyX has a problem with Windows users that have their home directory on a UNC
path. http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Troubleshooting mentions these problems for Lyx
1.5 already. (Recent versions do start, but have no classes available.)

I have been struggling with this for a long time. The workaround described in
the link (saving some steps by running configure.py directly from the
AppData\Lyx2.0 folder) worked for me on Windows XP.

Now, on Windows 7, it does not work anymore. Today, I have done some
experiments but unfortunately not found a solution yet.
What I have found out is that

- Under local users, LyX states ~\AppData\Roaming\Lyx2.0 as the user
directory. I have not seen the tilde on Windows before, but it works.

- Under network users, it states
\\server\user\ntdata\Anwendungsdaten\LyX2.0file:///\\server\user\ntdata\Anwendungsdaten\LyX2.0
 as the user directory.

- Running reconfigure from LyX as the network user gives some messages
in the status line that can be traced back to the fact that cmd.exe does not
accept UNC folders.

Is there any way to reliably make LyX run as a user with a UNC home directory?
Could it help to just give LyX a different user directory to work in? If so,
how can that be done?

I think this issue really needs to be fixed soon - People with home directories
on serves are not uncommon and LyX is practically unusable for them.

Regards

Matthias

If I understand your problem correctly, you want a a citation to appear as:

this is some that cites a book (Lastname, 1990)

which, in Latex with biblatex using the natbib option and a reference
with Lastname1990 as key would be:

this is some text that cites a book \citep{Lastname1990}

Have you tried checking the Latex source in LyX (ViewView Source),
to see whether you get the correct Latex command?

If that is the case, then I would look at the output of the latex
compilation (DocumentLatex log) for possible biblatex warnings

If all else fails, could you make a prepare a minimal example with the
wrong behavior (one paragraph, one citation) and post it?

Cheers,

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

I also use the natbib=true options and still get that wrong output.
When I hover over a citation in the text it says no bibliography defined and

If I understand your problem correctly, you want a a citation to appear as:

this is some that cites a book (Lastname, 1990)

which, in Latex with biblatex using the natbib option and a reference
with Lastname1990 as key would be:

this is some text that cites a book \citep{Lastname1990}

Cheers,

Stefano

You might want to try
\vfuzz

I never played with that myself, though.

Or simply enlarge the text height (via geometry). Maybe geometry even allows
rubber lengths. I did not check that.

\usepackage[style=authoryear,natbib=true,backend=bibtex8]{biblatex}

but the document output looks like this
...make up as much as 44% of the land surface Verstraete and Schwartz(1991)

instead of
...make up as much as 44% of the land surface (Verstraete and Schwartz 1991)
as I would expect and as is shown in:
http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/Biblatex#using-biber

Any suggestions will be more than welcome

How to get longtables to work?

2012-03-21 Thread Gerhardus Geldenhuis
Hi
The settings for longtables is disabled when I try to access them...

After reading http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Modules
I place the the longtables module in ~/.lyx, reconfigured my tools in Lyx
and restarted it.
The module has unfortunately not appeared in the documents-> settings and
longtables are still disabled.

Am I missing something? It seems a bit strange to have a menu item as part
of the default program but disabled and requiring you to manually install a
module.

How to create a more than one page long table

On the Web, I've read that people who were getting that error had an
outdated biblatex version installed. Please try to update biblatex to
the most recent version. Also note that biber versions are tighly
related to biblatex versions. The respective documentations (biber and
bilatex, resp.) tell you which version of each other they require.

LyX on Windows with UNC home directories

2012-03-21 Thread Matthias Hunstig
Dear LyX users and developers,

LyX has a problem with Windows users that have their home directory on a UNC
path. http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Troubleshooting mentions these problems for Lyx
1.5 already. (Recent versions do start, but have no classes available.)

I have been struggling with this for a long time. The workaround described in
the link (saving some steps by running configure.py directly from the
AppData\Lyx2.0 folder) worked for me on Windows XP.

Now, on Windows 7, it does not work anymore. Today, I have done some
experiments but unfortunately not found a solution yet.
What I have found out is that

- Under local users, LyX states "~\AppData\Roaming\Lyx2.0" as the user
directory. I have not seen the tilde on Windows before, but it works.

- Under network users, it states
"\\server\user\ntdata\Anwendungsdaten\LyX2.0"
 as the user directory.

Regards

Matthias

OK, that works!! It was the floating table which doesn't behave as I
want, but now I have a new issue with this: in the floating table I was
able to produce the table description with a label to reference (for
example as table 1), how do I do this now?? And more how can I produce a
table description on each page with a personalized foot (for example
adding the word Continuation... on every page but first). I'm sorry if
these are naive questions but I'm stuck on this.

Thanks Ignacio

I will do it but I partially solve the problem by unfloating the
table, what happens now is that I cannot referentiate it as I do in the

table description personalized for each page adding the word
"Continuation..." in the description except in the first page, does
anyone know how to proceed in this case

have you tried using the biblatex module for LyX? That module allows

format of your citation.
I normally use biblatex's authoryear style (with the natbib option)
and change the appearance of the citation depending on its context by
