Okular - in Navigation Panel 'Contents' is not active

2016-10-06 Thread Michael Berger

Dear all,

after exporting my LyX documents to PDF 'Thumbnails', 'Reviews', and
'Bookmarks' in Okular's Navigation Panel are always active while
'Contents' is inactive for others.

Could somebody out there please advise how to active the Contents view?

Thanks and cheers,

Michael

I use 3.6 at home and 3.7dev at work (but I've had a problem with 3.7dev
). Regardless, the cleaning
I'm describing was put in recently (maybe 3.5?). Regardless, with a recent
version you can configure cleaning with the "broom" in the toolbar (near
the key for key generation). I don't have it done automatically, but it is
a part of my workflow after I enter a new item. Note that in my screenshot
within that bug report, it doesn't show the Unicode -> LaTeX cleanup (it
was a relatively recent addition to me due to the need to include a French
technical report).

OK - reply at the bottom... (Outlook doesn't insert ">" symbol to indicate
previous e-mail...)

I have now *removed* the "c with acute accent" both from BibTeX and from my
document. I *still* get the "Missing glyphs!" error message, even though this
error message did not show up *prior to* the insertion of the removed
character... see below:

[imap://parubin73%40gmail%2e...@imap.googlemail.com:993/fetch%3EUID%3E/LyX%20users%3E338?header=quotebody=1.2=image001.png]

Unfortunately, the error messages in LyX are not easy to figure out :-(. I
*assume* that the problem is caused by an incomplete removal of the symbol???

In the past, I have had to copy and paste bit by bit of the original document
into a fresh document in order to get rid of such undecipherable error
messages...

Any ideas of a more intelligent way to "debug" the document?

Best regards,

Bernt
The first thing I would do (after backing up the document, just to be safe)
would be to remove the bibliography entirely. If the glyph messages disappear,
then we know the problem lies in the JabRef file. If the glyph messages
continue, I would try a bisection search. Delete half the content of the
document and recompile. That will tell you which half contains the problem. If
the problem disappeared, restore the deleted portion and delete its complement.
Iterate ad nauseum.

I've seen errors like that before that resulted from pasting something (in my
case, typically copied from a PDF file) into JabRef. The character looks
correct in JabRef, but has the wrong encoding to be used in a LyX file (or
LaTeX document). It might not be the accented c; possibly something else was
introduced into the JabRef file but not tested (by viewing the PDF) until after
the accented c was introduced.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks, Paul. I've done this "bisection" search several times... :-(
