If I copy and paste the math expression from lyx directly into this email it looks like the latex gets copied, so it looks like this M_{i,j}=\begin{cases} E_{i,j} & \text{if blah}\end{cases} If I try to compile this into pdf I get the error "Misplaced alignment tab character &" with description E_{i,j} & \text{if blah}\end{cases} I can't figure out why you would want to use a tab mark here. If you just want an ampersand, the remedy is simple: Just type `I\&' now. But if some right brace up above has ended a previous alignment prematurely, you're probably due for more error messages, and you might try typing `S' now just to see what is salvageable. Thanks -Colin You are correct about how to switch back to text mode. I just created a new document, pasted your LaTeX into a math inset, and compiled to PDF using pdflatex, dvipdfm and ps2pdf. The document compiled just fine with all three methods. Can you create a minimal document where the error occurs and include the LyX file as an attachment to a response to the list? Also, which method did you use to compile to PDF? Paul

Opening and saving with newer versions could change something you don't want. Did you create the file using 2.0.8.1? Which version of LyX are you using now? How did you install that version? (e.g. from Ubuntu PPA?). There is no Ubuntu 14.0. Do you mean 16.4? Scott signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Problem using \text in cases?
Hi there, I was trying to setup an equation in lyx with cases but seems to have a problem Basically I wanted to use plain text on the right-hand side so I hit Ctrl+M on the right-hand side to get back into plain text mode (I think this is how you normally do it?). Re: Strange problem of which I have difficulty to locate the origin
Me again, Sometime, Writing a message helps us to solve the problem I imagine. I have solved the problem I think. turkish in Babe need ,shorthands=:! as an option (to neutralize babel rules for =, it seems that they pose a problem for xkeyval used by includegraphics). I was adding it in custom options for the document, but it was not working it seems. I have thought of trying to put it in the preamble by putting \usepackage[shorthands=:!]{babel} and it worked. Both figures compile now. I was not well aware of this possibility of adding supplementary options through the preamble. It works very well. Thank you very much! 2017-10-02 11:32 GMT+02:00 Murat Yildizoglu: > Dear list members, > > I have been using LyX for many years but I currently meet a strange > problem: I am writing my first article in Turkish and I use turkish as a > babel mode (with english) and I cannot scale or resize any included PDF > figure (I typeset with pdflatex). Strange problem of which I have difficulty to locate the origin
Dear list members, I have been using LyX for many years but I currently meet a strange problem: I am writing my first article in Turkish and I use turkish as a babel mode (with english) and I cannot scale or resize any included PDF figure (I typeset with pdflatex). In the attached example file the fisr figure has a scaling instruction, but the second has not; You can see in the resulting PDF that the first figure is not included and we see a bit of the scaling instruction given to \includegraphics instead. The second is correctly included. Is this a feature or a bug? FYI: If I export to latex, I can compile the file with both figures. Any idea why I get this problem, and how I can solve it? Thank you very much. Equations displaced on the screen
Equations with labels appear largely displaced on the right side of the lyx window on the screen, as pointer switches focus from the math mode of that equation to the text display mode. (Equations are correctly centered with numbers on the right, when my file gets printed out). Using lyx 2.2.3 on linux suse Here included a test document. thank you Paolo test-equation.lyx Description: application/lyx
