Sorry for not beeing clear: I see the advantages of the quote inset and do not want to replace them. Instead my suggestion is to let the quote inset write literal characters instead of macros or ligatures whenever possible. Why not using Unicode literals generally,
converting them with "unicodesymbols" if literals are not supported?
