I carefully read all the threads about pdf, acroread, fonts and so on. I don't think that disabling bitmap font support is the best solution. However I also think that: What does an "average-stupid" user as I am ask for? A decent pdf file from my thesis. And It is very likely that my "average-stupid" professor will open the pdf document with Acroread. So for my basical need LyX should give me a working, practical and quick solution without any interaction, strange questions and LaTeX commands: that is, far-from-optimised but useful pdf, html, rtf documents from my lyx thesis. A LyX-LaTeX power user asks for optimisation: no problem! LyX offers this already, I suppose. Thank you, Emanuele Gissi

You could use the tocloft package to fix this.

A new Agency needs LyX, perhaps.
Hi, My wife and me have almost accomplished our respective PhD thesis with LyX1.1.5fix1, Pybliographic and ImageMagick on Linux Mandrake 7.1. In a months I am leaving university and beginning to work as manager of a new local agency for energy saving. My project is to start the right (and economic) way: an open-source only organisation. So, I plan to use Linux, StarOffice 6 (soon coming?) and LyX, of course, for all the reporting activity. I already know that I will be facing several problems and oppositions. The worst of the problems, that I should solve before formal proposal, is the following: our likely partners work on Win and MSOffice only. I have got no problem for exporting read-only documents: LyX PDF-export works very nice. The problem comes when sharing read-write docs, those documents that are reviewed and modified by the partners, thus needing to be translated from LyX to MSWord and viceversa, without loosing the overall structure. Of course tables, equations and other strange objects could be translated into images (à-la-latex2html) in the MSWord side, but they should be editable in LyX side. Text and structure should be editable in both sides. Yes, I know: the solution is to make partners switching to LyX ;-) But at present this appears impossible. So I ask lyx-users for ideas and suggestions... This is the actual situation of my experiments: HTML = exported by Lyx, but not imported... TXT = it looses the structure! RTF = I tried latex2rtf. Not so bad, but it needs hacking and MSWord does not read the converted tables. I never succeded with rtf2latex back-conversion. ??? = ??? LyX should prevent the user from typing a blank space before a point, a coma and so on or move it after the sign, thus avoiding mistakes like these: "I love LyX_,but I prefer girls_!" (where underscore means space) Of course it would be necessary a way to turn this control off, so to allow to type numbers like in: "my IQ is_.0001" As I am learning python I promise to prepare a script to check that mistake that I make rather often typing my thesis. Problem or bug with footnotes in a description environment
Hi, I am tring to put a footnote at the end of a label in a "description" environment. This does not work properly: either the footnotes shows but there is a blank space between the label and the indice or the indice is well positioned but the footnote does not show at all... How to do that in a working way? I include a little example. I am using LyX 1.1.5fix1 on a i386 with Linux Mandrake. Problem or bug with footnotes in a description environment
Hi, I am tring to put a footnote at the end of a label in a "description" environment. This does not work properly: either the footnotes shows but there is a blank space between the label and the indice or the indice is well positioned but the footnote does not show at all... I tried your example file ASIS and transformed with ps2epsi (which is much nicer at it really uses only the small space of your picture and not the much larger space of the saved image) and had NO problem at all to view the document in gv (View Postscript), both images rendered perfectly. Well, after using ps2epsi the resulting eps worked. I think that my problem was due to the bounding box that was very big. (as big as an A4 page :-) Thank you very much, my problem is now solved. the resulting PS with gv, gv complains and shows everything except the image I
inserted. Exactly the same thing happens with EPS images generated by gimp.

Here are the step I followed:
1) create the EPS with stardraw or with gimp.
2) inserted it into my LyX file.
3) Clicked on "Full screen preview" on the context "figure" window
4) gv opens and shows the image
5) from the "File" menu of LyX I click on "View Postscript"
6) gv opens and shows all the pages, the page containing the figure too. But it
does not render the EPS complaining with a window.
