Custom box inset and custom bullets

2009-08-28 Thread Nick Bell

Dear list,

I have looked at the mailing lists and wiki but can't find what I want.
What I'd like to do is:

(1) to create a module defining a new box inset type with an oval frame
and framesep=12pt, space between lines=medskip, which I can then apply
to bits of my documents.

(2) Also I'd like to know how to change the bullet type for each
individual line (itemize environment) - using renewcommand?

Thanks for any pointers

Nick

Windows: Graphics preview doesn't work using Lyxlauncher.exe

2009-07-17 Thread Nick Bell
Apologies if this has been said before, but I have only ever been able
to get graphics preview to work if I start LyX by running lyx.exe. If I
use the default LyXlauncher.exe, I can't preview .eps, .pdf (although
.png works).

Is this a known issue?

With some trickery, you can redefine the LyX comments (not Notes,

though) to be output as todonotes. Using the todonotes package [1], this
gives output that might look like what you want. Attached is an example.
Provided that you use LyX LyX 1.6, you can use the attached module (save
it in your (layouts folder), which will, if it is loaded, automatically
output all your comments as todonotes. The list of todonotes is produced
by the ERT command \listoftodos.

Shortcomings: - it gives an error if you have comments with multiple
paragraphs and

a \listoftodos (\todo notes are only for single paragraphs)

- it inserts blanks in the text (this is done by the package)

HTH, Jürgen

[1] http://ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/todonotes

That's very helpful, thanks. I altered the .module thus:
--todonotes.module
#\DeclareLyXModule{Todo-notes}
#DescriptionBegin
#Displays the LyX notes in the output. A list of todo notes can be produced
#by inserting \listoftodos in ERT.
#DescriptionEnd
# Author: Juergen Spitzmueller [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Format 11

Preamble
	\newcommand{\smalltodo}[1]{\todo[color=yellow, caption={#1},
size=\footnotesize]{\begin{spacing}{1}#1\end{spacing}}}

EndPreamble

InsetLayout Note:Comment
LabelString   comment/todo
LatexType command
LatexName smalltodo
MultiPar  false
End
--

So that all todos are small, yellow and with single line spacing.
I also took the \requirepackage{todonotes} out of the module-preamble,
and put it in the document manually, so that I can disable todonotes
from time to time with \usepackage[disabled]{todonotes}.

Note that the todonotes package switches on hyperlinks in citations via
hyperref, even when the todonotes package is disabled - but you can fix
this in the Document Settings by enabling hyperref and making sure 'No
frames around links' is ticked.

I would like to get in touch with the author about (i) the hyperref
issue and (ii) the additional line space after the end of text in the
comment box. Does anyone know where I might find him? There's no address
on http://midtiby.blogspot.com/2008/07/todonotes-version-2008-07-28.html.

Many thanks - this is getting more fun!

by the ERT command \listoftodos.

Shortcomings: - it gives an error if you have comments with multiple
paragraphs and

a \listoftodos (\todo notes are only for single paragraphs)

- it inserts blanks in the text (this is done by the package)

That's very helpful, thanks. I altered the .module thus:
--todonotes.module
#\DeclareLyXModule{Todo-notes}
#DescriptionBegin
#Displays the LyX notes in the output. A list of todo notes can be produced
#by inserting \listoftodos in ERT.
#DescriptionEnd
# Author: Juergen Spitzmueller [EMAIL PROTECTED]

	\newcommand{\smalltodo}[1]{\todo[color=yellow, caption={#1},
size=\footnotesize]{\begin{spacing}{1}#1\end{spacing}}}

Idiot's guide to creating a new style - or inset?

2008-11-16 Thread Nick Bell

Dear LyXians,

Despite doing my best looking through the wiki and email archives, I'm
stumped, and I think I'd better ask for help.

I'd like to use \textsuperscript{} and \textsubscript{} (available in
the KOMA-script classes) to generate 'true' super- and sub-scripts. I
can do this with ERT of course, but it looks ugly and interrupts the
flow of reading.

Is there a way in which I can add a new style (?char style ?inset) so
that all I see of the \textsuperscript{XYZ} is the parameter, i.e. XYZ
(perhaps in some particular font).

I think I need to be creating a new InsetLayout, but I don't know
exactly what to put in the file or where to save it for it to be
accessible as a module.

I know that documentation for this is coming soon but I'd like to learn
as soon as possible.

Many thanks

\bind-files (Mac, 1.6)

2008-11-16 Thread Nick Bell

Good morning LyXians,

I've made some useful key bindings to help me insert super/subscript text:
% Replace selected text with text subscript
\bind C-M-equal command-sequence cut;math-mode; math-subscript;
math-insert \text{;paste;math-insert };char-right;char-right;char-right

% Enter text subscript mode
\bind C-equal command-sequence math-mode; math-subscript; math-insert
\text{};char-right;char-right;char-right;char-left;down;char-left;

% Replace selected text with text superscript
\bind C-S-M-equal command-sequence cut;math-mode; math-superscript;
math-insert \text{;paste;math-insert };char-right;char-right;char-right

% Enter text superscript mode
\bind C-S-equal command-sequence math-mode; math-superscript;
math-insert
\text{};char-right;char-right;char-right;char-left;up;char-left;

Which I save as nick.bind in ~/Library/Application Support/LyX-1.6/bind,
and switch the bind file in the preferences dialog to the file, my new
shortcuts work, but I lose the mac.bind bindings (as expected from
documentation).

To try to put them back I put

\bind-file mac

as the first line of nick.bind, save preferences and restart. Doesn't
work; I try \bind-file mac.bind, \bind-file mac, \bind-file mac.bind,
and none of these work either.

I then try copying my mac.bind file from /Applications/... to
~/Library/Application Support/LyX-1.6/bind, and I still can't get the
\bind-file command to work.

I got what I want by adding my customisations to the bottom of the copy
of mac.bind placed in my userdir/bind. Is there a way of getting the
proper \bind-file behaviour to work?

Same problem here with Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.5) and Lyx 1.6.0 (Nov 7 2008).

With User Guide open, and having copied even a word to the clipboard,
shift+Page Up a few times causes crash. Console shows:

compile 0lyxpreview.tex

LyX enters infinite loop (consumes half of my dual core) just
before chapter name. Only way to unlock the application is to
kill it.

Can anyone confirm such behaviour?

Yes, also on Mac with 1.6.0 and with the UserGuide. 1) Open the
user-guide 2) Select All -> copy 3) Go to end 4)
Shift-PageUP-PageUP-PageUP-... -> Freeze

Putting section names at top of page

2008-11-10 Thread Nick Bell

Hi,

Can someone point me to an easy-to-understand way of including the
current \section{} name at the top of the page, *unless* the first item
on the [typeset] page is already a \section{}?

I'm sure lots of people want to do this, and have done it, but I can't
work it out myself.

Many thanks

Nick

So, simply put,

 % Add 2cm gap before signature
 \makeatletter
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

... in the preamble adds the 2cm gap I need. Great! I also increased the
amount by which the fold marks are nudged in from the page edge using:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What I still haven't got is the steps to put the logo up in the top left
corner (margin corner, not page corner). Could you highlight the steps
to do this?

Many thanks indeed

Koma-Script Letter 2 - Align logo to top of page, add space between closing statement and signature

2008-11-03 Thread Nick Bell

Hi - I'm trying to write a letter using scrlttr2:

1. The logo is too far down, merging with the to: address. I can't for
the life of me find a way to move it right up to the top margin. Can
anyone help?

2. How do I actually set the pseudolength sigbeforevskip, to increase
the space between the closing statement and signature? I've tried
putting things in the preamble, but just get errors.

Many thanks for your help

Nick
