Hi James

In the very beginning of the doc enter:
        
        
\pagenumbering{roman}
        
and on the top of the first page with arabic-numbers
enter:
        
\pagenumbering{arabic}
\setcounter{page}{7}
        
where the "7" of course is to be replaced with whatever page  
you're at.
I didn't find the automatic way of seetting that number
