LyX crashes. Windows, 1.4.3 (was: RCS on Windows)

2007-02-21 Thread André Bonhôte

Hi

It's really a pity that LyX/Win doesn't work as good as LyX/Mac ...
got a crash today, reproducable:

1 - Create a new document
2 - Activate Change Tracking
3 - Write some lines
4 - Accept all changes
5 - Write some more lines
6 - Repeat steps 4 & 5
7 - Boom.

See the screenshots here: http://flickr.com/photos/rclkrtrzckr/sets/

(FlickR is dead slow at the moment, please be patient.)

Actually, I stepped back to 1.4.3 from 1.4.4 because the latest
version crashed when I wanted to go to Document -> Settings -> LaTeX
Preamble in one of my existing documents. I didn't track this
further, just installed 1.4.3 :-/

I am not happy at all with this. I'm in the middle of a LyX Promo
Tour right now, I have to convince my bosses and team mates. But I
can't with these crashes. I have promised RCS, because it works on my
Mac, but it doesn't on Win. That's not really good.

Which one is the most stable version of LyX? Would it make sense to
go for 1.3.x?

Cheers

André

I am in a process of convincing my team mates to use LyX for
documentation. The guys all use windows. I'm not really a windows
man, thus the question: What RCS do you recommend? I have
downloaded the zip file from the gnu site and copied all the bins
to C:\windows, but LyX didn't see the binaries. Next, I have added
this dir to the path in the prefs, but still now luck.

FYI: I used lyx-144-2-bundle.exe to install LyX, worked like a
charm :-)

Re: Stupid table question

2007-02-20 Thread André Bonhôte

Blame me, I have found it: Edit > Rows & Columns > Add Row

Although this is wrong in the manual ... maybe someone wants to
change this one day.

Cheers!

AddToShipoutPicture & JPG

2007-02-08 Thread André Bonhôte

Hi

I have just re-installed LyX (1.4.3) on my MacBook. I have copied my
layout file to the correct location and ran reconfigure. After that,
I have tried to open and pdf'ize an old document.

In the preamble, I have

\AddToShipoutPicture{\BackgroundPicture{./Paper}{0}}

Paper.jpg is in the working directory and looks fine. I have tried
several different image formats before, including eps, but jpegs give
the smallest pdfs and (IMHO) the best look. I know that it used to
work on my old Mac with LyX 1.3.

But now it says:

"LaTeX Error: File `./Paper` not found.

and

 \newpage
  {}
I could not locate the file with any of these extensions:
.eps,.ps,.eps.gz,.ps.gz,.eps.Z
Try typingto proceed.
If that doesn't work, type X to quit.

According to the wiki, I have tried to run lyx in debug mode with ./
lyx -dbg graphics. This is the result (snipped portion):

The image loader can load the following directly:
BMP
JPEG
MNG
PBM
PGM
PNG
PPM
XBM
XPM

Of these, LyX recognises the following formats:
bmp, jpg, pbm, pgm, png, ppm, xbm, xpm

So, actually it should be able to load my jpeg, but it doesn't.

Any hint welcome!

CU!

André

Re: Ÿ without ERT (\"Y)?

2007-01-26 Thread André Bonhôte

Hi

I think I have read you're using Windows, so this won't help at all.
I just tried to type it here on my mac with lyx 1.4.3, and it works
fine with my dead key ¨, follwed by y. Seÿffert. It looks fine in the
output too.

I don't know about German keyboards, but my Swiss German layout has
this dead key, right next to the ENTER key.

Funny, that there are differences between mac and windows lyx ...

CU!

It has to be in normal text (it's a name: Seÿffert)

Centering a floating image

2006-04-27 Thread André Bonhôte

Hi!

I'd like to scale down an image to 60% of the linewidth. That works
fine, but now it's aligned to the left margin. Is there a way to
center it on the page (horizontally)?

I am using 1.3.7 on Mac OS X 10.4.6.
