MacTeX is not itself an application. It is a package that installs the TeX binaries and configuration files, none of which will show up in your Applications directory. (They are mostly in /Library/TeX.) LyX should know where they are and call them (with no input from you) when you try to view

LyX folk, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks a couple days ago and have encountered no problems whatever except that LyX 2.1 beta 1 is now regularly crashing on a large file I’m working on, and in a rather catastrophic way, as it truncates the 390k file I’m working on down to around 150k.
