Unfourtunately QT (unline Java or GTK+) by default doesn't use X11's
rendering capabilities anymore - instead it rasterizes everything
itself and sends pre-rasterized image data to the X server.
For Lyx this means that when typing, QT always sends images back
instead of just the drawing commands.

There used to be options to revert back to using X11 drawing commands,
hwoever I am not up to date in this matter.

Personally, I hate ribbon menus from the bottom of my heart.

This is also my personal oppinion.
I have to use Office-2010 sometimes, and whenever I can I revert to
LibreOffice mostly because of the awkward UI ms office has.

How to customize an IEEE-tran bibtex-style?

2013-03-13 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hello,

Please forgive me this slightly off-topic question, but is it possible
to modify a bibtext style?
I am using IEEEtran, and I am a bit unsatisfied with some of its
conventions, like:

- IEEEtran prints vol. whereas I would prefer Volume.
- IEEEtran has a weird style of concatenating many names, resulting in
author-fields like: H. P. H. C. R. J. T. R. M. D. S. J. A. Kahle, M.
N. Day,

On the other side, IEEEtran has a good-looking format and does handle
URLs, thats why I would keep it in the first place.

Thank you in advance and sorry for the traffic here.

Space allocated for pdf-graphics way too large on linux

2013-01-23 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi,

I am happily using lyx 2.0.5 on both linux and windows.
Importing pdf graphics works great with the windows version, however on
linux lyx allocates a lot of space even for small graphics in the edit
view:

On the generated pdf, everything looks fine though.

Any idea whats going wrong here?

Thank you in advance, Clemens

Re: How to place a figure's caption below the figure?

2012-12-25 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi again,

I got forth a bit in the meanwhile. The caption package obviously is
not intended for specifying caption placement.
For latex I found several notes, saying the caption placement is
controlled by the placement of the \caption command.

What I still wasn't able to find out is: How can I configure where/how
lyx places the \caption command?

Help is very appriciated.

Thank you in advance, Clemens

2012-12-25 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi stefano,

you had troubles with the caption's location because you inserted the
 picture inside the caption.
Of course, now Lyx' behaviour makes a lot of sence ;)
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, now I was able to configure
everything to fit my requirements.

Look at the revised test file I enclose below
 for correct placement
Thanks!

(and take a look at the documentation, especially the
embedded objects manual in the Help menu).
I have to admit, I hadn't have a look at the integrated help, will do so.
The information on the net wasn't too helpful.

Thank you again, Clemens

How to place a figure's caption below the figure?

2012-12-23 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi,

I am writing a master thesis using the book (memoir) style.
After enabling the fullpage-package, I am quite happy with the result,
except for the labeling of figues.

By default the numbering/labeling of figures is placed at the left of
the figure, as shown on the screenshot:
https://picasaweb.google.com/ceisserer/December232012?authuser=0authkey=Gv1sRgCO_1-KfcvPiFwQEfeat=directlink
This consumes horizontal space which could be used for the figure
itself otherwise, so I would prefer this labeling to appear at the
bottom of the figure.

I did some experiments with the caption package, but unfourtunatly
didn't succeed.
I would be greateful for any hints of tips.

Thank you in advance, Clemens

Insert citation dialog empty

2012-11-17 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi,

I was able to import my bibtex-databse I had created using JabRef
successfully into Lyx (when I enable to list all, not only referenced).
However, when I click on the insert citation button, the dialog I get has
almost all controls disabled, and there is nothing to choose from.

Did I miss something? I am using LyX 2.0.4 on Linux.

Thank you in advance, Clemens

Sorry, my fault ... of course ;)
I hadn't secified bibtex-keys, which confused Lyx.
