formatting an integral or limit

2007-10-16 Thread Dov Kruger
I only know how to format a limit using a subscript, which puts the
condition below and to the right of the limit. Is there any way to put
it underneath?

ie:

lim_x \tends \infinity

using lyx as a front end

2007-10-15 Thread Dov Kruger
I'd like to enter an equation in lyx and have my code process the
equation. In general, this question might be more appropriate for the
developer forum, but I noticed that the converters may have hooks to get
at the document. Is there any user-configurable way to get a piece of a
document to a converter? If not, where is the appropriate forum to go?

thanks!

re: Mac OS X 1.5.2 unable to print

2007-10-13 Thread Dov Kruger
Hello,

I am a relatively unskilled latex user, which is why I fell instantly
in love with lyx. I am impressed with how easy it is to use, and the
WYSI part improves productivity for interactive tasks like formatting
an equation or inserting diagrams.

However, I was unable to get it to fully work. I followed the
instructions on Mac OS X, got the MacTeX-20070829.dmg, installed it.

It appears to have installed itself into /Library/TeX

When I installed Lyx beforehand, it failed on certain things related to
finding TeX, so I re-installed, and everything appeared successful.
However, printing is ghosted out, and when I load the document I
created with lots of equations, it warns:

The layout requested by this document, article.layout is not usable.

This is presumably because lyx doesn't know where the TeX stuff is.
I got it to work in the first place by adding /Library/TeX/Root/bin

to my path. What other environment variables or other configuration
should I do, (and I think this should be added to the instructions for
the Mac).

Just to confirm, I grabbed a tiny latex demo off the net, latex'd it,
xdvi'd it, and it works, so clearly MacTeX is working as it should, in
my path.

thanks!
