To place a logo (or any other element of a template) with vfill, hfill,
etc. is way too much work, since you have to do it on every slide,
dodging the other important stuff that the slide is to carry-- that is
what a template is supposed to do.
I'd be pretty happy with Beamer if they
are usually embedded in the PDFs that
Beamer produces. Not so with Powerpoint.

I think in Latex you can specify this independently of the width of the
graphics in the wrppaed figure, but how do I do it in Lyx?
The current Lyx leaves too much white space around the figure, because
the caption is much
