key binds for font coloring

2011-02-28 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello everybody,

I would like to mark fast certain parts in my LyX text (e.g., important
comments, questions) with colors.
The slowly way is to mark the text, open the font dialog box and apply
it (if the right has been chosen previously).
A littler faster is to use the apply last button and define a some
keyboard short cuts in the bind file.

However, I would like to be able to use different colors for different
types of comments. Therefore, the apply last button isn't really a short
cut for me.

Have you any suggestion how I could solve that problem?

Thanks for help in advance,
All the best,
Helmut

import preamble

2010-04-12 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

I need help regarding following problem:

I have a larger document divided into chapters, which I include via the
'include' command. Now it happens that I want to change some details in
the style (e.g., marginsize) or that I want include a new package. The
problem is, if I change the preamble of the parent document it will
affect the whole output (which I want), but it will not affect the
single child documents. How can I trespass this information to all of my
child documents? Or to put it differently, how can I change all
preambles at once?

One solution would be to copy the preamble and paste it to every single
child document (too much work :-( ).

(This will be my plan C or D)

Or I will have to write a script to change the preamble of all
documents. (plan B)

Have you guys any suggestions? Is it possible to do that inside LyX?

Thanks for your help and the great software.

numbered lists in AMS theorems

2009-12-02 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

I have the problem, that I would like to have a numbered list, or a
description list (or similar environments) within a AMS theorem
environments. While that is possible in LaTeX, unfortunately it is not
in LyX.

Right now I use a work around with ERT, but it is kind of annoying and
it would be great to have the possibility to simple nest those
environments.

Is that already possible (I use LyX 1.6.3 under Fedora)?

thanks for your help and for this great peace of software.

Re: Matlab eps files display problem

2009-09-02 Thread Hauser Helmut

Thank you Uwe and Mukhtar for your respones.
Lately I have been suggested to use the tool convert of ImageMagick
after saving the Matlab figure

to solve this issue...and it works!

For everyone who has the same problem, here is little peace of matlab
code to do the job

(assuming Linux and ImageMagick is installed) - feel free to use it.

e.g. save_valid_eps(gcf,'my_figure') saves the current figure to
my_figure.eps

function [] = save_valid_eps(handle,name)
% saves the figure (gcf) in a valid eps format
% using convert from ImageMagick
%
% input:handlefigure handle (e.g. gcf)
% name name of the file (maybe including the whole
pathname)

%
% NOTE: ImageMagick is needed! (using convert

% save figure first in a temporary file
% psc2 - colored eps
saveas(handle,['TEMPORARY_',name,'.eps'],'psc2');

% convert it with convert from ImageMagick
unix(['convert TEMPORARY_',name,'.eps ',name,'.eps'])
% remove temporary eps file
unix(['rm -f TEMPORARY_',name,'.eps']);

cheers,
Helmut

I guess the problem is in the matlab eps export (so no lyx problem),

Hello Uwe, Hello Günter,

I don't understand. Do you have instant preview enabled (menu Tools -
Preferences- Look feel-

Graphics)?
If so, either turn it off or set it to no math, or add this line to
the file lyxrc.dist that you find in LyX's installation folder:

\preview_scale_factor 1.0

The default size is 0.9. This has often been reported as too small
therefore the alternative Windows installer sets it automatically to 1.0.

Thanks a lot for you help. This was exactly what I needed.
As always the LyX community is fast and powerful. I think this makes the
wonderful piece of software even better.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I tried to find the place in LyX where I can change the size of the formulas when the cursor is not there.
When I type them they have the right size, but later when leaving the maths area

If that is possible at all, can anyone give me a pointer?

Very thankful as always!

The formula font size seems to be too small compared to the font size of
the text.

In the LookFeel Window I could not find anything to change that (only
the color or/and font size of the text).

Yes you are right - strange. I have a printed copy in front of me with

The problem is to know where was the problem?
Could it be, that I got the difference using accidentally a different

The version 1.6 lyx file I got by exporting the 1.5 lyx file to plain
LaTeX (attached too) and importing it later

with Lyx 1.6.

Why that? Open the file that you created with LyX 1.5.x with LyX 1.6.3
and it will work.

Well it did not work for me since I used a workaround for the subfigure
using some ERT and the 1.6.x version did not accept the way I did it.

(I see that your 1.6.x version used English as document language
instead of Swedish and that the document preamble is missing.)

Yes you are right - strange. I have a printed copy in front of me with
the described differences.
I tried to reproduce it today but I failed. Now it works for me,
strange but with a happy end.

The problem is to know where was the problem?
Could it be, that I got the difference using accidentally a different
export like PDF (ps2pdf) ?

The version 1.6 lyx file I got by exporting the 1.5 lyx file to plain
LaTeX (attached too) and importing it later

with Lyx 1.6.

Why that? Open the file that you created with LyX 1.5.x with LyX 1.6.3
and it will work.

Well it did not work for me since I used a workaround for the subfigure
using some ERT and the 1.6.x version did not accept the way I did it.

(I see that your 1.6.x version used English as document language
instead of Swedish and that the document preamble is missing.)

regards Uwe

Thanks a lot for your effort,
Best regards,
- helmut

IEEEtrans.sty different outputs for LyX 1.5 and 1.6

2009-06-10 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

My problem is that when I make a pdf using the IEEEtrans.sty in LYX 1.5 and
a pdf of the same document (exporting it from 1.5 = plain LaTeX =
import to 1.6)

in LyX (1.6.0 as well in 1.6.3) it has different margins and letter sizes.

I assumed that the style should define the margins, letter size etc. and
not Lyx. I rechecked
and everything is on default in LyX for both documents (but adding
\usepacke{subfigure}).

...and they use the same IEEEtrans.sty document.

Thanks for your help.

PS: I had to do this complicated way (exporting it from 1.5 = plain
LaTeX = import to 1.6) because
I used in the original document \subfigure[]{} in ERT and plain opening
with 1.6 did not work for me.

IEEEtrans.sty different outputs for LyX 1.5 and 1.6

2009-06-10 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

My problem is that when I make a pdf using the IEEEtrans.sty in LYX 1.5 and
a pdf of the same document (exporting it from 1.5 = plain LaTeX =
import to 1.6)

in LyX (1.6.0 as well in 1.6.3) it has different margins and letter sizes.

I assumed that the style should define the margins, letter size etc. and
not Lyx. I rechecked
and everything is on default in LyX for both documents (but adding
\usepacke{subfigure}).

...and they use the same IEEEtrans.sty document.

Thanks for your help.

Navigation menu - list of tables includes comment tables

2009-05-25 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

I use Lyx 1.5.2 on Fedora. I have noted that in the Navigation menu -
list of tables Lyx lists also tables which are
in the note (commentary) environment and therefore are not seen in the
LaTeX output. For the counts in Lyx (e.g. Table 3) it counts these
tables too. The same is right for figures.

Is that a bug (maybe already cleaned in newer versions) or is there a
good reason for that, which I am not able to see?

Thanks for your help and the awesome program!!
Cheer,

I guess Lyx does not look at the preamble before compiling and therefore

Matlab eps files display problem

2008-02-28 Thread Hauser Helmut
I have a problem with eps files produced with Matlab 7.4 (export figures
to eps)

(Note: With the older versions of Matlab this did not occur)

The problem is that it is not displayed properly on the lyx screen. It
looks somehow distorted and only in black and white. Interestingly in
the final ps or pdf file it looks correctly.

I guess the problem is in the matlab eps export (so no lyx problem), but
maybe someone has stumbled over this problem and knows a solution.

Hyphenationpriblem with '-'

2007-11-19 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

I have following problem: I have words like 'IGI-2' and want LaTeX not
to hyphenate it. In German texts this is possible with 'IGI~2' which
results in 'IGI-2'.
I also tried to define a hyphenation with \hyphenation{word}, but of
course this command uses '-' to define where to hyphenate and gets
confused with these kind of words.

Maybe a \newcommand with \mbox or something similar could help? But I am
not sure about how to do so.

any suggestions?
Thanks,
Helmut

relative paths

2007-09-03 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello,

I use LyX on a Linux machine in my office and on a Windows machine at
home. Sometimes I need to work on the same document on both machines.
The problem is, that the path for the figures to be included is always a
global one (/home/... or C:/).
It would be great if I just could use a relative path and would not have
to change it all the time. Of course it would be great if I insert a new
figure LyX gives my me exactly this ./figures directory. So this
relative path would be a variable of the document itself.

Is that possible? Has anyone suggestions how to do that?

export-- pdf

2007-08-29 Thread Hauser Helmut

Hello everybody,

I was wondering where the the export to pdf (latex) has gone in the
version 1.5.1.

I am aware of two ways to get the pdf right now:
- using the preview option and then save the file directly from the
pdf-viewer.

- or get it from the (changeable) temporay directory
but both seem to me a little bit of a work around.

When I try it the old way File Export Custom I get a lot of
possibilties but if I choose one I just get the Cancel Button.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help and keep on working on this great piece of software,
Helmut

PS: I am using LyX 1.5.1 on a Linux System (Fedora).

Thanks for your fast response. That is exactly my problem. This does not
show up anymore in the drop down menu. Here are possibilities which are
offered to me:
CKJ (1.4.x) (big5)
CKJ (1.4.x) (eu-jp)
CKJ (1.4.x) (eu-kr)
latex (pdf)
latex (plain)
LyX 1.3.x
LyX 1.4.x
Plain Text
Plain Text (ps2ascii)
Custom

I'd try doing Tools Reconfigure.

I had already tried that before posting my question. No difference.

If that doesn't work, see if latex and pdflatex are still installed
(e.g. try running latex or pdflatex from a terminal)

Yes they are installed and work well.

export-- pdf

What about
   File Export PDF (pdflatex)
or
   File Export PDF (ps2pdf)
?
