In ERT

\setindexpreamble{Introductory text...}

Yes, sorry, it should have been

I suppose you are looking for 2up printing, as provided by these LaTeX

* https://ctan.org/pkg/twoinone

Remove the line
\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{Sachregister}

before the index (actually, you can remove the whole TeX inset there).
Rather than that, add to preamble:

\KOMAoptions{index=totoc}

They do appear here. See attached PDF.

Does it work i you disable hyperref support in Document > PDF?

It might be due to this xindy bug (which is resolved in my version):
https://sourceforge.net/p/xindy/bugs/62/

It is quite easy to fix this. You need to replace the file
makeindex.xdy in your LaTeX distribution by this updated one:

You have this in the preamble:

\@ifpackageloaded{babel}{
% Damit der Index den Namen "Stichwortverzeichnis" erhält
\addto\captionsngerman{\renewcommand{\indexname}{Stichwortverzeichnis}}

Replace this with:

No, not output-wise. These are different input formats provided with
different font encodings. If you write LaTeX in an editor, ,this` is
the fastest input method, but it matches \quotesinglebase
this\textquoteleft.

Not, though, that changing quote styles (e.g. to German guillemets) is
easier if you use Alt+".

How about

If this fails as well, we need the complete error message: which

This depends on the index processor. I recommend texindy. This should
sort German properly. But note that there are two German sorting
varieties, called german-din and german-duden in texindy:

"German recognizes two different sorting schemes to handle umlauts:
normally, "ae" is sorted like "ae", but in phone books or dictionaries,
it is sorted like "a". The first scheme is known as DIN order, the
second as Duden order."

In Document > Settings > Index, select "texindy" as index processor and
add "-L german-din" as option.

If you prefer makeindex to xindy, you need the -g option.

Thanks, Joel. Seems rather unlikely in this case, as Python is not

What really puzzles me is that some icons are right and some not in

Why do you load babel and Spanish explicitly in the preamble? Just
selecting Spanish as document language in LyX should suffice.

Anyways, this looks like a bug in babel-spanish. As I don't get it
here, I suppose you need to update the babel-spanish package.

Not intended but I found no way to refocus the widget. But you can
check "Wrap" in the search widget to automatically start from

Here, F3 does work, but only if I gave the workarea focus, which is not
so apparent if you use the dialog. The working procedure is:

1. Ctrl-F
2. Enter search string
3. Hit Enter to fin first occurrence
4. Click into workarea OR close dialog
5. Hit F3 to find next occurrences

I suspect 4. is the crucial missing step.

I'll check if we can do something to avoid this unintuive extra step.

KOMA's \frontispiece command is not yet natively supported by LyX. Bt
you can insert it manually by using TeX mode:

\frontispiece{My Frontispiece}

Do this in a standard paragraph at the very beginning of your document
(before the title).

Go to the master's document setting, section "Child Documents".

Select "Include only selected children"

Select you child document in the widget below by double-click

Also select "Maintain counters and references"

This supposes that your master does not have other content than
includes of children.

Hm, to me, this rather looks like a LyX autosave file (as generated
by Buffer::getAutosaveFileName()).

Maybe LyX attempts to remove or move that (e.g.,
Buffer::moveAutosaveFile() is called by Buffer::saveAs()) and Dropbox
does not appreciate that.

I don't know if you can specify file patterns to ignore from Dropbox
syncing (as you can with nextcloud), but if so, the easisest solution
would probably be to exclude *.lyx# files from syncing.

Biblatex has many fields that BibTeX typically doesn't have, and some
fileds have a different syntax. E.g., address takes and "and"-separated
list (Berlin and New York and Boston). However, Biblatex can deal with
all BibTeX fields and handle "classic" input.

Yes, names must be and-separated (in both BibTeX and Biblatex).

> For that same article JabRef says it's missing page numbers but the

Biblatex expects normal dash {260-269}, which will be automatically
transfered to en-dash (or whatever the style wants) in output.
{260--269} in input works as well, but this won't be tranferred if the
style requires a different separator.

What you are referring to is a long-standing feature request (and I
would love to use it myself). I am not sure it fits into the text field
infrastructure (which is more like context-dependent information such
as date, file name, author name etc.), but probably more into something
you could call "text macros" in analogy to "math macros":

The reason for the difference is this commit:

commit e798db5739871aaa29f95de321c52f19058064c9
Author: Guillaume Munch , Mon Oct 10 16:52:32 2016 +0200

Follows: 2.2.0
Precedes: 2.3.0alpha1
Branches:

Safe line break to increase precision of error reporting in Listings

So apparently the %\n improves error messages in Listings (which are
only relevant to batch export).

used for export.

Since this is perfectly valid LaTeX it strikes me a pandoc bug. I

Did you upgrade inkscape? LyX 2.3.4 does not work with inkscape 1.0.
LyX 2.3.5 (around the corner) will.

No, LyX will fail again as soon as Inkscape 1.0 is installed (and you
need to reconfigure). Inkscape 1.0 also does not work with LyX for
other reasons (replacing the reconfigure script does not suffice to fix
that).

I suggest you only upgrade to Inkscape 1.0 after LyX 2.3.5 is out
(which will be very soon anyway).

This will be fixed in LyX 2.3.5.

LyX configuration needed to be adapted to inkscape 1.0 (which changed
the registry entry among other things).

Workaround is to downgrade Inkscape to 0.96.

It very much depends on (1.) your operating system and (2.) the PDF
viewer. Adobe Reader on Windows (and the Mac probably) can display more
multimedia content than most PDF viewers on Linux (even Adobe when that
still existed for Linux).

On the other hand, I learned that pdfpc (https://pdfpc.github.io/)
worked surprisingly well on Linux at least with the companion package,
https://www.ctan.org/pkg/pdfpc-movie. But this requires you to have
pdfpc installed on the presenting computer.

We've had this discussion more than once. Please consult the (lyx-

particularly if we try to extend support eventually (think csquotes,

A normal (non-breakable) space is appropriate in German typography. A

If you send a MWE showing this (mis)behavior, we could probably tell

Of course it shouldn't crash but rather report the uncodable character.
Can you file a report wrt this?

However, if you uncheck "Literal" in the nomencl dialog, then the
character is resolved properly (this is the default mode with newer
documents; older documents are converted with Literal=true as this was
the only possibility back then). "Literal" means that you can enter

No. There is GUI support for it. Go to Document > Settings > Child
Documents (in your master file), select "Include only selected
children", select the chapters you want to include, and click "Maintain
counters and references" to have the complete document compiled once
before only the \includeonly documents are completed.

A drawback currently is that "Maintain counters and references" makes
LyX execute the extra compilation every time, which increases
compilation time. Normally, you can uncheck it if the document has
been built once and if you only change the included document.

Ideally LyX should be smart enough to detect changes and do the
complete execution only if necessary.

date is biblatex-specific*, while year is bibtex (biblatex also

You probably use some biblatex-mode in Jabref.

* date can take much more structured information than year, such as

BTW UI-wise I think it would make sense to insert a paragraph-break
separator (rather than a plain separator) on double-return in that case
(where a standard paragraph or a non-environment follows an
environment).

That's a problem in the embrac package following a recent update of the
fontspec package. See:

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.text.tex/h8Jl4fqaF9E/RDx8zM0dCgAJ

The embrac maintainer should have been made aware of the problem, but
I'd say it cannot harm if you file a bug report at
https://bitbucket.org/cgnieder/embrac/issues

This needs to go to the preamble, but as follows:

\AtBeginDocument{\setlength{\bibitemsep}{12em}}

(the \AtBeginDocument is needed as Biblatex is loaded after the user
preamble)

Alternatively, you can also put it in TeX code in the document
(somewhere before the bibliography).

I suspect something went wrong at installation. Or maybe there is
something wrong in the packages. Is this from ubuntu binaries or
vanilla TeXLive?

Glad I could help. Such config problems are annoying and hard to track.

I suggest to not only add this one line, but use the whole file I sent.

Yes, you need to run (as root presumably)

fmtutil --all

or

fmtutil --byengine pdftex
fmtutil --byengine luatex

to regenerate the formats.

... and if no such file is there, you need to create it, as indeed (and
maybe surprisingly) pdf(la)tex _does_ produce DVI by default; it only
produces PDF if advised so via \pdfoutput.

I attach my (default TeXLive) configuration file for convenience.

Try the following:

Find the configuration file pdftexconfig.tex in the terminal via

kpsewhich pdftexconfig.tex

In this file, check if there is the line

\pdfoutput = 1

If it's not there, or if the value differs (specifically: 0), then
add/change it.

I got the LyX file in private mail.

So here's how to fix it:

* Delete \bibliography{further-6} from the preamble
* Also remove \usepackage{polyglossia} from the preamble (this is
loaded automatically by LyX)

* In the document, remove the TeX code:
\printbibliography[title={Further readings}]
* move the Biblatex inset out of the note inset
* in the Biblatex inset settings, load the further-6 bibliography and
add the following to the options field: title={Further readings}

You can also remove the TeX code \nocite{*} if you set "All references"
in the Biblatex inset settings ("content")

Explanation:

You have loaded used biblatex-related macros in your user preamble, but
biblatex is loaded after the user preamble.

You need to put the margin outside of the description label (the first
item of the line)

Thanks, but this is already tracked.
