texhash only updates the local filename hash. To update packages, you
need to use your package manager.

Yes, geometry is a special case. It is only auto-loaded if "default

No. It just checks on Tools > Reconfigure whether this package is

I think on Win it used to also automatically install the package if

I think the problem is not related to beamer. The eulervm package

It tells LyX the standard values of the document. So if "Sides 2", LyX

Because the Bidi package (used by polyglossia) internally sets the
correct direction to Arabic numbers.

If language package is none, LyX cannot know you actually want
polyglossia.

The \small output is a bug.

Language default for English in LyX 2.3 is latin9 (ISO-8859-15). This
is independent of your OS defaults. IIRC ModernCV internally forces
utf8, which causes an inputenc clash.

LyX 2.4.0 will switch to utf8 as default for all languages.

With a reasonably new LaTeX version:

\AddToHook{package/polyglossia/after}{%

Via the lyx-devel list. EPUB is Thibaut's field who has re-implemented
DocBook support completely for 2.4.0, and epub on top of that.

Nobody can answer this seriously at the moment. 2.4 is basically done,
but there is no release schedule yet and many developers are busy with
their real lifes.

> 2) How good the EPUB export will be

I suggest you checkout LyX 2.4.x from the repository yourself, try and
report back. I don't think it has been heavily tested except by the
person you implemented it.

Generally I'd say your time would be better invested in helping to
improve LyX's own EPUB output than building an external converter. And
feedback on how to improve the epub output is certainly most welcome.

This is a bug in LyX. I have just fixed it.

Workaround is to write \setLTR in TeX mode at the beginning of the
English paragraph, having the TeX mode inset itself in Hebrew. See
attached.

Yes, this is because the file format in the master repository is not
the same than in the released alpha version. If you have saved files
with the former, you need the former to edit them. I wouldn't use alpha
anyway, try to build from the master repository.

The file format changes during development phase (in order to implement
new features). It is only frozen when we head towards a release.

\usepackage[titletoc]{appendix}

And in the body, instead of using LyX's appendix marker, enter in TeX

Yes. Document > Settings > Child Document from the master, include only

master is printed as well, so it is advised to have a master that

I think you misunderstood the advice. You should put the bibliography
inset into the branch, not the citation reference. Also, if the child
is supposed to be compiled standalone, it needs to have the proper
bibliography settings as well (biblatex in your case). See attached
example.

Note that an alternative approach is to use Document > Settings > Child
Documents (from the master) and to include only the desired child for
the output (this also prints the master's content, though).

Sorry for the late response on this, but I just stumbled upon this
issue. As of hyperref 7.00g (2021-02-04), unicode is true by default
for all engines, so we can test for this version and omit the output of
this option in this case. This doesn't even need a file format change.

Steve then needed to opt out via

You have in your document an index entry

Drosophila!feedback loops

The problem is probably (or was in the copy you sent me) that all this
is emphasized. The exclamation mark that marks the subentry needs to be
straight, not emphasized.

But we check before all uses of popLanguageName() that
lang_switch_depth_ (which is the stack at stake here) is non-empty
via langOpenedAtThisLevel(). So from the code, I don't see why that can

Yes. Wolfgang, if you cannot share your document, you can make a copy
of it and anonymize that via buffer-anonymize (in the minibuffer, i.e.
after Alt-X). This function replaces all characters in your document
with an "a". This will do for us ti debug.

The reason is that it is not easy for LyX to guess what follows. With a
character, a space needs to be inserted to terminate the command, but
with another command, this space must be omitted as it would result in
a real space. Braces work in both cases.

Note though that forthcoming LyX 2.4 will be smarter and output, with
your example:

{\Large\textsl{Here is some long long long and even longer text that
spans multiple lines of a paragraph in large size and slanted
style.}}{\Large\par}

There is also a reason for size switches coming before font style
markup. I can't remember the details now but this is the only order
that works in all cases.

And the reason why it is inserted is line spacing. This is wrong if the
\par is not resized, at least if whole paragraphs are in a non-standard
size.

See attached example which uses Paul's advise but with an empty ERT
rather than a space.

It adds the possibility to output a plain (non-typographic) quotation
mark. This preamble code is only inserted if you use such a character
in your document. Remove the character, and the preamble code will
disappear.

The index entry switches language to English, hence the language
switching markup is output. In order to maintain correct sorting (D,
not \), the sorting key (before the @) is generated.

No. Not if you are used to tikz. I usually need much longer time in
inkscape (if I need to use it) to get proper placement and alignment.

It's not trial and error. If you select the proper tikzlibrary, tikz
will automate a lot. And the result would definitely look nicer.

But as I said, everybody should chose the tool that suits them.

Everybody to their taste. Personally, I think tikz is excellent, and I
prefer it a lot over inkscape for most diagrams, and certainly for
linguistic trees.

Tikz might be a challenge to newcomers as it does not have a GUI
(natively) but it is way superior in some regards (overlays, different
output formats). I also very much prefer it typographic quality over
inkscape's (at least what is provided without much intervention).

BTW as for your diagram, I would probably go with tikz directly rather

\usepackage{tikz}

  (1,0) node (b) {b}

\node (e) at (1,-2) {e};
\node (f) at (1,-3) {f};
\draw (a) -- (c);
\draw (a.south) -- (d.north);
\draw (c.north) -- (b.south);
\draw (b) -- (d);

1. Do *not* use \raggedright in the document body (before the index)

2. Do *not* use the flushend package for column flushing

3. Rather than that, uncomment the idxlayout package (which cares for
vertical flushing by default) and add the following package option to

You put

\usepackage{fancyhdr}

in your preamble. Remove that!

Probably the following line in preamble (after idslayout was loaded)
will help:

\renewcommand*{\indexstheadcase}{}

Yes, sorry, it should have been

\usepackage[indentunit=10pt, itemlayout=singlepar]{idxlayout}

But this does not produce the result you want. Try instead:

\usepackage[indentunit=10pt,
hangindent=10pt,
subsubindent=0pt]{idxlayout}

Try option "singlepar" of idxlayout, i.e.,

\usepackage[indentunit=10pt, singlepar]{idxlayout}

Please refer to the idxlayout manual for further options.

Try for instance

\usepackage[indentunit=10pt]{idxlayout}

Open View > Messages, compile your document and send us the result

Also check whether there are multiple files named "makeindex.xdy" in
your TeX directory. Make sure only the modified one is there.

It's a xindy module.

I suppose you are looking for 2up printing, as provided by these LaTeX
packages (among others):

* https://ctan.org/pkg/twoinone

* https://ctan.org/pkg/twoupltx

* https://ctan.org/pkg/pfarrei

Most are quite straighforward to use (simply one line to be added to
your preamble)

pd1enc.def is part of the hyperref package, so I'd investigate whether
something went wrong in hyperref update.
