The LyX format itself changes regularly during the 2.4.0dev timeline.
lyx2lyx is updated simultaneously.

When 2.4.0 is released, the format will be fixed and lyx2lyx (barring
bugs) will stay the same during the lifetime of the branch.
The only exception is that the last 2.4 version will get an updated
lyx2lyx that can read the 2.5 format.

Likewise, LyX 2.3.7 will be able to read and produce the 2.4.0 format.

I suggest that we wait until this actually happens :) I understand your

What I really wanted was to apply the anti-spam filter only to
non-subscriber, but mailman does not allow for that as I understand it.

And what's the supposed upside? So non-subscribers can post. Look at
any netiquette guide and they'll roundly catcall the clowns who begin
or end their message with "please CC me because I'm not on the list."

The upside is to try to be more welcoming to new users. It is not like
we have too many users, do we? As in my answer above, I agree that we

[Important] New behavior for spam handling on this list

2022-04-06 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes via lyx-users

Dear all,

Until now, the handling of the list was like: messages from subscribers
go through, other messages get discarded.

There is actually a way to filter e-mails marked as spam, and I have
already changed all our other lists to take advantage of this information.

Today it is lyx-users' turn. The new behavior is:
* spams are automatically discarded; please notify the list if a message
of yours just disappears. It seems to work correctly on the other lists
that we have;

* members posts not qualified as spam go through as usual;
* remaining non-member posts are held for moderation.

The big advantage is that now non-subscribers will be able to post
messages (with a low amount of manual moderation from my side).

Comments welcome.

Not sure what the problems are there but, for the record, I use the LyX 2.3.6.2
binaries from lyx.org on both my MacBook Pro (M1 chip) and a Windows laptop and
the functionality is pretty much identical. It does appear that you are stuck
with a blinking cursor (since that’s an OS level thing), but I have no problem
changing the background color (did you uncheck “Use system colors”?), and
cursor movement keys and other shortcuts work identically in both versions.
(Maybe you mean something more by “hotkeys”?)

Hints:
 * hotkeys are somewhat different since one uses the Command key
instead of Ctrl at least
 * cursor movement is slightly different to match what is expected on a
mac, but this is controllable through "Preferences>Editing>Use mac-style
cursor movement".
 * indeed to change the background (instead of the OS one), uncheck
"Use System colors".

For example, one could sort the branches by clicking on the column

Would others find this useful? I'm guessing it's just me and maybe one

branches are such a flexible tool I'm not sure how others use them.

While I am not sure I would use it, it is pretty easy to implement in

Wolfgang, could you share the document that causes issues (at least
privately)?

The assertion above (I ignore the QXcbConnection stuff for now) means
that stack::pop() is called on a stack which is already empty (this
methods removes one object from a stack).

In our code, there are two places where such a stack is used:
output_latex.cpp (LaTeX output) and output_xhtml.cpp (HTML output).

Since your document is exported to late for LuaLaTeX, it has to be the
former.

The place where this pop() method is used (popLanguageName) is related
to our use of nested languages. And indeed, it does not check that some
language has been saved before pop-ing it.

At this point, having a document that triggers the issue would be very
useful. Then I am sure that Jürgen or Enrico will be able to take over.

Yes probably.

What should I do?

From the build directory (tip: you can run LyX from there without
installing):

1/ make sure that you have pulled the latest changes from git and built them
2/ run "gdb src/lyx"
3/ when you see the "(gdb)" prompt, type the following commands
catch throw
run
[do the crashing thing]
bt
4/ send the output of the bt command

f you have issues with thunderbird, try to close it before debugging.

p.s. if I compile lyx again, should I use
./configure --enable-debug
since I am not familiar with gdb?

Usually this type of discussion are more appropriate in lyx-devel mailing
list.

Indeed. But encouraging users to use latest version is good.

But I am not sure that this particular instance is encouraging :)

With that said if you use --enable-debug use also --enable-stdlib-debug that
it will help as well.

These are on by default with development builds.

continues to behave itself, with the sender's name in the From field and
"LyX Developers" in the To field.

I am not sure if I would qualify this as a gremlin, but one of the

Why did such a thing happen?

Well, every time our friend Valdemaras (aka sov...@yahoo.com) posted a

who use a yahoo-based ISP (that's 40 people who did not get the
message). This with an error message about spam and DMARC that I am not
sure to understand. As I do not understand why Valdemaras is our only

So we can try to tweak again and better the list, but no promises. And
