You could compile in cmake-environment.

The compiled package has about 30MB.

I could export from 2.4. The fonts will be set in the preamble for 2.3.x.

Please follow the advice at
http://www.troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/texgyre.htm

This is not for tex-gyre only, but for all fonts from texlive.

This way the fonts _are_ non-tex-fonts.

The system has to know these otf-non-tex-fonts (this is misleading I know) form
texlive.

...

However,
tlmgr install: package already present: anonymouspro

I am confused...

Sure, texlive knows them, but your system does not.
Here for example:
 $ fc-list -f '%{fullname}\n' | egrep -i Anonymous
Anonymous Pro Bold Italic
Anonymous Pro Bold
Anonymous Pro
Anonymous Pro Italic

No, running 2.3.x gives no errors here. You have to enable the tex-fonts for
your system.

You have to add these texlive fonts to your system.

1.) create file "/etc/fonts/conf.d/09-texlive-fonts.conf"
e.g.
$ sudo cp `kpsewhich -var-value
TEXMFSYSVAR`/fonts/conf/texlive-fontconfig.conf
/etc/fonts/conf.avail/09-texlive-fonts.conf
make a symbolic link for your system
$ sudo ln
-s ../conf.avail/09-texlive-fonts.conf
/etc/fonts/conf.d/09-texlive-fonts.conf
The content should be something like:

  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/opentype
  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/truetype
  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/type1
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/opentype
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/truetype
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/type1

provided you installed texlive under /usr/local/texlive/2021
2.) Make your system aware of this
$ sudo fc-cache -fsv

3.) Reconfigure lyx

A little more info needed.
Do you compile with automake or cmake?
What is the exact message if running the make?

Trying
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=all=any=gtk+qt5=all
gives many packages for ubuntu20.04, but nothing seem appropriately.
(Maybe 'qt5-gtk-platformtheme', but no matching library there.)

1.) I wonder about the name 'preferences.txt'. In case this is wrong, look at
Help->About LyX->user directory
The preferences file should be in this directory
2.) Add the line there (After the line with 'Format 34'
3.) No need to reconfigure. You have to restart lyx though, so lyx can read
preferences
again

4.) If that does not work, check the log-file 'configure.log' (in the same
directory)
Should contain the lines
INFO: checking for the pdflatex program...
INFO: +checking for "pdflatex"...  yes

Steve, I am upgrading daily, nothing problematic.

 $ tlmgr update --persistent-downloads --all

Sometimes there is a need to update first the tlmgr itself, so you are forced
to first use

 $ tlmgr update --self

Hm, I meant the output of the command 'umask'.
Maybe it is set be /etc/zshenv, but there may be different handling (like
include of user
specific file).

 Here it is for example
 $ umask

You could define some standard keys to help you. Look into slovak.kmap
Here '=' for instance works as dead_acute for the chars
aceilnorsuyzACEILNORSUYZ.
Don't forget to use your new kmap.

Tools->Preferences...->Editing->Keyboard/Mouse->Use_keyboard map->Primary

Replying to myself:
Since the source with which 'find' works is more or less latex, we can only
search for
content.

You have to recompile lyx. This value is hardcoded in src/LyXRC.h.

Do you refer to lyx2.3.?
Do you start lyx always from the same directory (in case the paths are stored
relative)?

Yes, it is possible, but you have to write a script.
The change is recorded as a number (seconds from JAN 1 1970)
On unix it is easy to determine the value , say 1 day old:
$ date +%s --date=20200429
Here it gives 1588197600
Every number bigger than that in the lyx file markes the newer change.

Result:
Cannot find '../Nextcloud/MaM/2020_MaM/Diss4.bib'!
Changing to Minimal and selecting other font (Dejavu instead of non installed
"Stempel
Schneidler Std") I got no errors. This is with the master version of lyx (2.4).

With the same modification also no problem on lyx 2.3.

Looks like the old 4.1 layout is still valid also for 4.2.
The only difference is the the use of revtex4.2 class instead of revtex4.1
The attached may be enough ...

Copy the 3 files to your userdir/layouts (on unix most probably ~/.lyx/layouts)
and do a 'Tools->Reconfigure' in lyx.
Restarting lyx, you should be able to use the class.

Probably you have to tell Guix about the new path.

What about
Document->Settings...->Bibliography->Style format:
ATM you have selected 'Basic (BibTeX)', try for instance Biblatex.

What is wrong with Document->Settings...>Language->Quote style: ?
 (+ use dynamic quotation marks)

Why? It is always 'manual', since you have to type '"'.
You could bind the command 'M-x unicode-insert 0x201d' to anything you like
\bind "F1" "unicode-insert 0x201d"

I would
create a new (empty) directory
copy HelloWord.lyx there
and use this copied file

Yes, it looks related. Apparently the 'pdflatex' called from lyx does not create
the required pdf file to be used to display the image.
Maybe the environment used by lyx is different from the one if you compile
manually.

1.) Could you start lyx from the terminal?
2.) does the '.lyx' directory contain *.lst files (11 files) and configure.log
3.) Are the dates of these files newer compared to the install date of lyx?
4.) Does removing .lyx dir and restarting lyx create this dir again?

That (.dvi) is the clue probably. Select different output in

Provided lyx-file lacks the referenced tag.
To define:
* Move cursor to the desired position
* Insert->Label...->Label:->thm:main result

and you should be done.

Also the ERT(\smallskip) is not needed.
Use
* Insert->Formatting->Vertical space->Spacing:->SmallSkip

That is wrong. 'texlive-font-utils' is one of debian packages.
$ sudo apt-get install texlive-font-utils

But if you use tlmgr you have to call
$ tlmgr install epstopdf

(Also mark, the the command epstopd needs ghostscript)

Maybe better to check your screen-font settings.
Check in the userdir:
$egrep screen_zoom preferences
(100 is default)

Normally it is set by
Tools->Preferences...->Look & Feel->Screen Fonts->Default zoom%

because /etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml will be overwritten on each update
of package imagemagick-6-common.

Just checked on a fresh userdir. They are deactivated on default.
At least with cmake-master-build.

Witch branch-build they are activated though.

Check first that biblatex.sty is not available.
$ kpsewhich biblatex.sty

If not, try to install apt-file
then:
$ apt-file update
$ apt-file find biblatex.sty
--> texlive-bibtex-extra
$ sudo apt-get install  texlive-bibtex-extra

In lyx you should now reconfigure.

I see it too now.
If using '-dbg files' param for lyx, lyx shows:
support/FileName.cpp (732): creating path
'/usr2/kornel/tmp/doc1/cmd_line_test/doc/include'.
This path is created because lyx searches first this path for the file
'inclusion.tex'.

I confess, it is not sooo nice behaviour.

I don't see it here.

Strictly speaking, this is not 'out of source'.

I suggest, you use a completely different directory and use an absolute path.
1. mkdir -p ~/build/lyx
2. cd ~/build/lyx
3. cmake  ...

But first clean the polluted source dir from eventually created files.

The fact, that lyx was able to create the emergency file means that lyx could

What I believe to see:
With pdflatex the whole page is rotated.
With dvipdfm the content is rotated.
But the effect on printed paper is the same.

Now I see, what you meant. Using dvipdfm the second page is rotated.
Using pdflatex the second page is not rotated. Neither with lyx2.3 nor with 2.4.

What misled me was the use of the word 'fail'. We are using it if the
compilation
itself indicates a failure.

I had no problem with lyx2.3.

But lyx2.4 crashes at src/insets/InsetTabular.cpp:.
if (restwidth > 0)
vcolwidth = restwidth / restcols;
Under gdb, I see
restcols == 0
Changing to
if ((restwidth > 0) && (restcols != 0))
vcolwidth = restwidth / restcols;
makes lyx2.4 working again.

And again, no problems with the mwe.

Nothing. Shortcuts depend on language. OTOH, you can create own shortcuts and
use them.
(Tools->Preferences->Editing->Shortcuts)
They should be saved in your lyx-userdir/bind/user.bind
Anything there should be valid, independent of language.
