Multilingual difficulties for beginners with Lyx
I successfully use multiple languages in Lyx with Xetex by specifying packages and fonts in the document preamble, or using inline ERT (usepackage \fontspec etc) I see on http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/XeTeX, where it describes a similar setup to my own, that it says: Note: the following steps are only necessary up to LyX 1.6.x. As of LyX 2.0, you will just need to click Document→Settings...→Fonts→Use non-TeX fonts (via XeTeX/LuaTeX). Then you can immediately View→PDF (XeTeX). However, when I tried this out for someone I recently installed Lyx for (2.0.1 on a Mac, I use 2.0rc3 Win7) it seems that Xetex had no idea which fonts to use for Chinese (the default font was in English). Use non-Tex fonts was selected, document language package made no difference. Note the 1.6.x approach with the preamble did work. Shall I tell this user to put fontspec etc. into their preamble the way I do, should I try the xeCJK macro mentioned in the wiki.lyx xetex page, or have I missed something? Thanks, Lisa

Bug with Comments or Greyed out in section headings?
Apologies if I have missed something in the documentation: With 2.0.1 on OSX or 2.0.0 on Win7-64, I am unable to insert a Comment or Greyed out inset in a section heading (through the menu or right-clicking), but if I create one in the standard environment and then change the environment to a section such as Part or Subsection the comment inset is allowed or kept. Right clicking or the menu now allows the comment to be changed to a note, but its a one-way affair; once done, one cannot change it back again. Is the reason for this covered somewhere? Thanks, Lisa

Possible to save layout of open files (with split view) on exit?
I am working on some files involving split views etc. which I need to set up every time I start up Lyx (including after a reconfigure). Is it possible to have the layout saved so that I do not need to do this manually each time? Thanks, Lisa (using Lyx 2.0.0 on Win7 64)

How to use nomencl-insert?
According to the docs (LFUN): LFUN_NOMENCL_INSERT ActionInserts Nomenclature entry. NotionIt automatically takes the word on the cursor position if no symbol is given. Syntaxnomencl-insert [SYMBOL] I am trying to bind a key to create a nomenclature entry for the word on the cursor position (see above), so that I can then just start typing the description in the dialog. nomencl-insert brings up the dialog but ignores any highlighted text, or any word on the cursor position. (using Lyx 2.0.0 on Win7 64bit) Can anybody help? Thanks, Lisa

Catwoman's slinky lynx licks Lyx's Instant Preview M ode in WYSIWY∞
Apologies for the awful catchphrase bait put there for you to swallow hook, line and tinker. Just throwing a crazy thought out there before Lyx 10; what would be the consequences of a mode where the screen was displayed as though through a Preview inset except at the point where you happened to be typing? A keystroke would toggle this on or off. James Blunt is singing 'You're beautiful' in my head now which is exceedingly annoying. BTW, WYSIWY∞ just means I have an acronym headache; ∞ is not a sideways 8 that fell over from a hangover meaning What you see is what you ate. (Does WYSIWY∞ mean WYSI everything there is, or WYS does not behave in the way you think it should?) From the floor, Lisa

Renaming LabelString of Note Inset
With Lyx Beta 2.0.0beta2 on Windows7, I notice that if I write in a module InsetLayout Note:Note LabelFont ColorBlue EndFont . a note will indeed change its label color to Blue. However if I try InsetLayout Note:Note LabelString N there is no effect. I can change LabelString on a custom Flex Inset. Is it possible to change a Note's label text (for example to a shortened version)? The Customization manual says LabelString What will be displayed on the button or elsewhere as the inset label. Some inset types (TeX code and Branch) modify this label on the fly. Should it perhaps mention those inset types for which a label's text cannot be modified? Cheers thanks, Lisa
