I, too, wish the previous behavior would be restored such that any
changes you made in the graphics dialog would apply to the current
image _until_ you clicked outside the graphics dialog. But apparently
when you press Apply, Lyx loses the connection between the image and
the dialog box.

I think you actually have to click on the image in the document again
before any manipulation is begun. If you don't, the dialogue box is
actually addressing the image from the original directory, then when
manipulated, scaled by percentage or whatever, or even just click OK it
reproduces the image, giving you another that's been changed, because
the dialogue box references the image in the folder anew, ***not*** the
image in the document already.

So just click on the image in the document already and the dialogue box
pops up, then manipulate it, and it will be working on the image in the
document, not the one in the directory from where it was pulled.

reconfigure. I use lyx 1.6.5 on a slackware 12.1 system.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello John,

I know nothing about LyX, just muddle through because I like it but..
you may have to use \usepackage{titlesec} and play with this line:

{12pc}{0.5ex plus .1ex minus .2ex}{1pc}

In the subsection - subsubsection line?

I think the 0.5ex is where you increase or decrease the spacing between
sections? Larger than 0.5ex will increase the spacing I think. Maybe try
0.0ex or -0.5ex

But I could be wasting your time? If so sorry for the noise.

The first page is blank (is this normal?), the even numbered folios are
missing, and there is one too many pages between the front matter and
main body.

http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/UsingMemoirInLyX links to the following two
documents that are supposed to help, but for some reason I can't get
them to download. And I haven't been able to find them anywhere else.

http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a0303098/public/lyx/memoir-titlepages.lyx

Just for reference can download the .pdf version of the above, so
wonder what might be the problem for you?

As for the one above, the LyX file: just copy it into a plain text
editor save it with the .lyx extension and then open it in LyX and view
it as a .pdf document if you wish.

Hope that helps,

What happens if you remove the comma in front of this line?

I can't find it in the document any place at all, and I've loaded the
document with a text editor without being able to find that `',

I think it is complaining about an empty option. The `' are just
added around
this empty string.

JMarc

Thanks Jean-Marc,

That did it, and now I have to wonder if I place that comma there, and
now there is a line under the header?

So it doesn't obey the command It places a head separater line there,
If I try to comment out that line by % or %, I get the error message
again.

If I try to set it as headsepline=true% The line is still there? Weird.

But at least I have it working, but some strange things are happening

Printing problems.........

2010-01-28 Thread M-L

It doesn't rain but it pours.

My HP Deskjet F2280 all in one printer won't print landscape in
anything created by LyX either directly from LyX or from a .pdf file
that LyX created.

I see on the Hewlett Packard webspace that another person is having
problems with the same printer when trying to print landscape documents
created by LaTeX, on an Ubuntu system.

He said that an OpenOffice landscape document will print. I haven't
tried it yet.

But no solution was found. So who's problem? LyX or HP and making it
mine?

I would guess that you would have the same problem when exporting to
LaTeX and compiling the document manually, but it is worth checking.

If so, then the problem is not with LyX but either with pdflatex or
with HP or with some combination thereof, or perhaps with whatever is
converting the PDF to a format the DeskJet will recognize.

2010-01-27 Thread M-L

Hope I'm not doing the wrong thing here, not a criticism, if at all
correct, just an observation:

Embedded Objects

Chapter 2

2.11.1 Coloured Cells

\rowcolow{cyan}

is inserted to the first cell of this row. Note that this overwrites
the column color for the first cell. The last cell of the last row is
colored magenta by inserting the TeX-Code command

I possibly incorrectly assume it should read:

\rowcolor{cyan}

Discovered this while getting more adventuress and trying to colour a
row. But it doesn't work with either spelling for me.

But that's not a worry because \cellcolor{cyan} does and I'll just do
individual cells instead of the whole row.

couple of days - must be missing something. I have no idea what the blue
arrows going in several directions are supposed to mean. There's no
documentation that really explains it. Looked at the document in LyX in
DVI in PDF and still no joy.

Re: Insert->Formatting->Ragged - it doesn't allow me to do that in that
cell, the command is greyed out. Also I was told \newline is the
right trigger.

I have read that chapter in embedded objects several times and tried
all manner of things. Have googled and tried much else trying to get
this done and now am getting more confused than ever.

I feel - possibly incorrectly - that I have to create the table either
in the float environment or I have to "set" the table column widths to
make any command at all work, and then possibly, just possibly,
Ctrl+Enter will make the new line anyway.

Next thing to try.

Thanks for your help.

I can usually do most things with LyX, but always found tables a
problem, and will go back to creating the table in OpenOffice if I can't
get this working. There it's simple. :-) or simpler.

Be well,
Charlie

Possible typo..........

2010-01-27 Thread M-L

Hope I'm not doing the wrong thing here, not a criticism, if at all
correct, just an observation:

Embedded Objects

Chapter 2

2.11.1 Coloured Cells

\rowcolow{cyan}

is inserted to the first cell of this row. Note that this overwrites
the column color for the first cell. The last cell of the last row is
colored magenta by inserting the TeX-Code command

I possibly incorrectly assume it should read:

\rowcolor{cyan}

Discovered this while getting more adventuress and trying to colour a
row. But it doesn't work with either spelling for me.

But that's not a worry because \cellcolor{cyan} does and I'll just do
individual cells instead of the whole row.

Be well,
Charlie

Strange change..........

2009-11-02 Thread M-L

Hello everyone,

Hope this isn't wasting anyone's time.

This could be useful in the future if I knew how it was done?

I use a template for my journal and have used the same one for years
with few changes, however..

Today the Section used Typewriter font instead of Sans Serif font
which is the usual font locked into the template, and I can't for the
life of me see what I changed? I changed nothing in the preamble other
than inserting the date as ever and closed out of document settings. So
can only assume it was a key binding? I don't have any special
key binding file.

When I bring up the template anew, the Section comes up as it should
Sans Serif font.

It's not important, but just interesting how it was done, and as
mentioned, it might be useful in the future.

Any ideas?

TIA

Hi,

I have installed the complete package of LYX 1.6.4 with Aspell for

I am having problems with spellchecking my documents I have created.
I keep getting the error message The spellechker could not be started.
No word lists can be found for the language en_GB

Any suggestions on how to get this working?

I did get this working when I had to use windows recently, but I can't
recall how I did it. I got that Miktex or whatever it was called to
download and install all the possible packages. Then found Aspell on
the net and installed that as well. When I went into the spellchecker
through Preferences- Language Settings- Spellchecker, but it was
greyed out and never changed. I also think I looked for a word list.

Jumped through a lot of hoops, but knew as soon as my new hard drive
arrived I would be back to Linux, nevertheless got the spellchecker
to work in windows eventually. It was ugly and more trouble than it
should have been.

I wish you luck with it and am really sorry no notes were kept of what
was done, so can't help you more.

Perhaps it is a problem of the langage of the document which isn't
well defined (Document-Preferences).
You must also have the dictionary for this langage.

Siegfried.

Thanks Siegfried,

I did download the dictionary English [Australian] dictionary if I
recall and a lot of other stuff, some of which I purged when the
spellchecker was up and running and discovered some of the software
wasn't required. I just don't recall what was done and what fixed it.

It was an affectation. When in windows I actually don't find MSWord or
OpenOffice.org onerous to use, but prefer to use LyX wherever possible.
So due to bloody mindedness just kept worrying away at it while working
in the other programs and finally got it working the way I wanted.

Fonts in toolbar - menu list, dropdown menu etc.. look a bit skinny and

Hello Everyone,

Running Debian Squeeze

I think this is a LyX problem, because all other proggys run on FVWM
don't present with a very skinny and flaky font in the toolbar, menu
list, drop down menu's and such

The title on the window is good and I think that's set by FVWM, but
all the other fonts mentioned, of the window surround crook.

Is this a LyX problem or do I have to go elsewhere?

Can't help you with this Christian, but I have the same problem on a

But my version of LyX is 1.6.3 MiKTeX 2.7

wrapfig......... how to do that.........

2009-07-26 Thread M-L

Hello everyone,

I have been reading this:

http://wiki.lyx.org/Tips/PlacingPicturesBesideTheText

Plus a whole heap of stuff on the net to try to have text wrapped
around a graphic.

I can't make it work.

Just a simple line example would be nice and I will experiment with it
from there:

Do I have to use it in an ERT in the chapter/section I want it in?

 \usepackage{wrapfig}[12]{r}[34pt]{5cm}{pictobeused.jpg}

Doesn't work in ERT

So how might one use it?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

You have to do nothing, just use the menu: Insert - Float - Figure
Wrap Float. Then insert your graphics just as you'd do for a normal
float.

Thanks Ignacio,

I looked there, but there was only one file format in evidence being:

But it's solved anyway. A reboot of the system and the KDE stuff loaded

When I attempt to select by
 a. Left clicking and holding then
 b. Dragging the mouse

things work as expected until I hit the last visible line on the
screen. Then there is a mighty upheaval and I find I have selected
way beyond my intended target. So still holding down the left button
and trying to go back up a little - again LyX over reacts and I find
myself back earlier in the text than where I started.

 Questions:

 1. Am I doing something wrong?
 2. Is there a better way to select largish chunks of text (say a
 whole chapter).
 3. Is there any way to mark places in a document then delete to the
 mark (as in vi)

Hi, I noticed the same kind of behavior. Now I use the
ctrl+shift+arrow combination.

Hope this helps.

 Dear list,

Perhaps I'm confused and doing it wrong.

I've selected empty for headings style but still there are page
numbers at the bottom of pages.

 Many blessings.

Try: Document/Settings/Page Layout/Page style = empty

HTH if not maybe a bit more information might make it clearer - eg.
operating system.

That will certainly help.
