url insertion and mailto:

2005-03-24 Thread Marcus Beyer
URL insertion works fine for HTTP URLs. However if I want a functional
(mail client starts on click) mail address, I have to add the
mailto:-prefix. The problem: The prefix is displayed and some people
don't understand they have to remove the prefix on non-click use.

Any idea?

Such a pity, that Adobe Reader displays them so strangely on their

View-PDF actions interchanged?

2005-03-22 Thread Marcus Beyer
Hello list!
I have the impression that the two menu entries
View : PDF (pdflatex)
View : PDF (ps to pdf)
are intechanged, i.e. the first does what the second should and vice
versa.

One of the many symptoms: if I have \usepackage[pdfborder=0]{hyperref}
in my preamble and choose View : PDF (pdflatex) I get an error Error
while executing ps2pdf...

I am using LyX 1.3.5 on Mac OS X.
BTW: Is there a bug reporting system (e.g. Bugzilla) for LyX?

lyx+tetex on mac os x / jean-marc's cv class

2005-01-08 Thread Marcus Beyer
Hello and good evening!
I installed LyX, Fink, TeTeX (via fink) on OS X and it's running at
once. Cool!

Now I would like to write a cv using Jean-Marc's cv class as described
here: http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/Examples/CV.

So I am wondering were to put that cv.cls file. Classes seem to live
under /sw/share/temf/tex/latex/... But these directories are owned by
System so I cannot write to it. What is the correct thing to do?
Should I steal the latex directory from System and place the cv.cls
file somewere in there?

thanx!

$TEXMF/help/tds.dvi, section 2.2. What I mean, that there is no reason

BTW: What does "kpse" mean? Wikipedia doesn't know anything about it ;-)

By 'math editor' I mean 'math mode', not just the math symbol panels.

I am well aware that there are several methods to enter things there.

 Don't ask me why.

Because TeX users like to type and Word users like to click?

mb Because TeX users like to type and Word users like to click?
mb
hv nonsense ...

:P

Of cause this was strongly simplified, but more than once I heard
TeX users complain about the math panel (typing goes faster).
If you don't tell them, that typing math is also possible, they will
perhaps not take a closer look. To avoid this was my intention.

The same with Word users: only few will make the jump to TeX,
because everything must be known there -- in Word (or any
other similiar prog) you can start without knowledge and clicking
everywhere in the GUI until you find what you was searching for.

ap The 'why' was refering to the 'awareness' anyway...

Why should I ask you about your awareness?
Trying to flame me?

My answer was more for yardbird than for you (see above).
Perhaps reply to all was not quite right in this case.

Re: Alternatives to Lyx?, was: Re: parallel.sty

2003-09-16 Thread Marcus Beyer
I am quite satisfied with Lyx though I`m using it only for 5 weeks now and
have written only about 40 pages (with some floats and tables). And I like,
that it is open source, because some parts of my thesis should be easily be
copied and integrated in other papers (I will put it on my website as a
lyx- and latex-file besides PDF). I had to discuss a bit with my professor
before he accepted PDF instead of Word97 which he wanted to use with its
correction function in our cooperation. Now he prints and corrects
manually, then sending me his corrections (we seldom see us personally).

Perhaps he can use Adobe Acrobat (which costs some money) to change
your PDF?

But Lyx (Qt for Windows) is still not there that I can recommend it to a
 typical Windows-User.

Even not to a scientist? Ouch :(

I think most LyX users have made ugly experiences with other
word processors (like ms word) and are now very glad to have
a deterministic software that produces excellent output. IMHO
it is worth to invest some days of training to get used to the
word processor of your life :) This is also a good training in
structural/logical thinking for physicians, biologists, pedagogues
etc. ;-)

Cheers!

I should note that it's a long term goal to reduce the amount of such
 training necessary.

cool *g*

But there are some tricky problems.

Re: Bibliographic Database for Lyx-Qt for Windows?

2003-08-30 Thread Marcus Beyer
But I know, that a bibliographic database may offer more. Is there any
which will work together with Lyx-Qt for Windows? Pybliographer seems
  only available for Linux.

no, if I remember well, it is a Java based program.

I think the GUI was Gnome-based.
Is Gnome available (as Qt) for windows?

 There is
also JavaBib, which is very easy to understand and to use.

 http://www.tug.org/tex-archive/biblio/bibtex/utils/JavaBib/

Is it recommendable?
I am also searching for a good bibtex-GUI for Windows.

Re: FEATURE REQUEST

2003-07-25 Thread Marcus Beyer

I am not opposed to the multiple frontends: I think a gtk, gnome or even
Windows port would be more popular than xforms as well.

A Windows frontend? The qt version from Ruurd feels very native:
http://www.home.zonnet.nl/rareitsma/lyx/

The only strange thing is, that the clipboard seems to work only in
one direction: LyX can write something into the System Clipboard,
but it can't read from it, if other programs have written the content. Why?

Report this to Trolltech at [EMAIL PROTECTED] !!! They will
 appreciate and fix it!

Is this really a bug? Someone just told me that I have to select
Edit - Paste External Selection from the menu. I think it should
be trivial to attach this to the ctrl+v key. Isn't it?

Really strange behaviour. My first reaction was: *WTF?!?!* ...

 I don't see encl in cv.cls.

Perhaps you have a different one ...

In dinbrief and scrlttr2, however, the line
 \renewcommand\enclname{Anlagen}
at the beginning of the document should do.

Thank you Juergen! That did work on cv!

cv.cls configurable?

2003-07-11 Thread Marcus Beyer

Hello!

is the cv class configurable? I have written a letter of application
and naturally want it to be perfect. Now the last line is the encl: line,
where in german it is Anlage(n):, where (n) means one ore more.
Because I have more than one, I want the text to be Anlagen:.
Is that possible (via some switch) without touching the cls-file?

thanx!

Jean-Marc.Lasgouttes There is a class named cv.cls distributed (and supported) with

Jean-Marc.Lasgouttes You just have to move it from prefix/share/lyx/tex/cv.cls to

That works. Thank you.

I wonder why these classes are not part of MiKTeX.
Some bytes more should not matter on 500 MB ...

Angus, thank you for your reply!

On LyX I did Edit-Reconfigure. Then I restarted

Is there a special trick to do?

You have to tell LyX that you want these previews. There's a check
button on the Edit-Preferences dialog. Find it:
 (xforms) Look 'n' Feel-Misc tab
 (qt) Look and Feel-Graphics

Graphics? Ah, now I understand.
I have to Install ImageMagick and Ghostscript first.

Ok, done.

First try. Result: gs not found.

Hmm, I rename gswin32.exe to gs.exe, right?

Re: still unable to have quotation marks

2002-11-06 Thread Marcus Beyer
   I am using LyX 1.2.1 with Cygwin/XFree86 on Win2k.

Problem: whatever quotation marks I choose in the configuration menu,
I get always inch symbols when I press shift-2.

I solved the problem myself.

Step1: Disable the keymapping stuff (this causes the strangest problems) in the LyX
config menu.
Step2: run setxkbmap -layout de at the end of
\cygwin\usr\local\share\lyx\etc\startlyx.bat.
Step3: Restart LyX with startlyx.bat.

I guess the keymapping stuff (*.kmap) is experimental. Right?

config menu.
Step2: run setxkbmap -layout de at the end of
\cygwin\usr\local\share\lyx\etc\startlyx.bat.
Step3: Restart LyX with startlyx.bat.

I guess the keymapping stuff (*.kmap) is experimental. Right?

quotation marks

2002-10-29 Thread Marcus Beyer

I am using LyX 1.2.1 with Cygwin/XFree86 on Win2k.

Problem: whatever quotation marks I choose in the configuration menu,
I get always inch symbols when I press shift-2.

Any idea?

Marcus
