Graphics output on PDF
Hello everybody! I'm working on a thesis, currently running Lyx 1.6 over MikTex 2.7 on a Vista environment. Just in case I'm using the standard Report layout. When generating the PDF via pdflatex everything looks pretty except for the graphics. Eventhough they look pretty good on Lyx, on the pdf they appear completely oversized and since I am mostly working with raster images (I mean, not vectorial) they look pretty bad. So, for every figure I add, a process of trial and error follows in order to get the right scale.. (then of course I have to determine the right clipping values in order to get the image centered!)... I have the impression that lyx would work much better with vectorial images (eps, svg, etc.) but most of my figures are made with Flash.. and sadly its fuction for exporting vectorial images doesnt work too well.. Anyway, any ideas of whether there is something wrong here? Thank you very much in advances!

Bibliography headers and TOC
Hi all! I'm using Lyx 1.6.0 to write my master thesis. It's all fine, except two points for which I dont' find solutions neither in the archives nor other forums. 1- Bibliography header. I'm using document class BOOK and fancy headers. Bilbiografy appears capitalized and both in upper-left and upper-right corners, which is annoying for me. I would like to have it not capitalized and just in one corner. 2- Bibliography and TOC. Ok, just marking the option in the Bibtex Generated Bibliography, it does the correct TOC, but when using the generated PDF and clicking there in toc, the hyperlink brings me to the chapter before. Thanks in advance Pablo

Problems exporting to OpenDocument
Hello, I'm trying to export my LyX document to OpenDocument but LyX does not produce output. The document is written in Slovakian language and in the cp1250 encoding. I tried removing all the ERT from the document but it didn't help. I'm running LyX 1.5.5-2 on WinXP. Exporting to other document types (PDF, DVI, PS) works just fine. Can anyone give me an advice please? If there's any other information you need I'd be happy to provide it. Please don't forget to send the replies to my e-mail address too as I'm not a subscriber of the mailing list. Best regards, Pablo

Hello, Stephen. This is the Mandriva (working) setting. pablo]# find / -name article.cls /tex/latex/base/article.cls I can no longer find where the SuSE rpm did in fact install the classes (let's suppose it did), but it is clear they were not in their right place. There was also the issue with DVI and PDF not appearing under View. These and other problems made me go back to Mandrake, which is the distro in which I've been using Lyx for many years. Please unset them first if you do not know what they are for since typically they are not needed. However, some TeX related packages may suggest to set TEXINPUTS. In that case, please make sure the TEXINPUTS includes a trailing : character, which indicates the standard search paths are also used. --- Tags, Stephen Thanks. I went back to Mandrake LE2005, and Lyx is -again- working as usual. All classes *can't* be missing in the SuSE LaTeX rpm, so I tend to believe that -perhaps because the search paths are wrong- Lyx couldn't find them. -- Pablo Ortúzar
Re: No classes
Hello, Stephen. This is the Mandriva (working) setting. pablo]# find / -name article.cls /tex/latex/base/article.cls I can no longer find where the SuSE rpm did in fact install the classes (let's suppose it did), but it is clear they were not in their right place. There was also the issue with DVI and PDF not appearing under View. These and other problems made me go back to Mandrake, which is the distro in which I've been using Lyx for many years. By the way, my SuSE was a beta. Thanks -- Pablo Ortúzar

Hi, Thanks, Paul. I dowloaded installed the XFT forms and fonts. In a console, kpsewhich article.cls (no quotation marks) gave... nothing. ) Doing Reconfigure didn't change anything. Under View, I have no DVI nor PDF. I do not think there is something wrong with *my* installation: I've seen quite a few posts pointing to the same problem, which appears after an upgrade (in one case, Fedora. Mine is a clean SuSE install. Others have reported the same problem both with Windows and with Macs). -- Pablo Ortúzar

Stephen, Thanks. My doc/LaTeXConfig.lyx autogenerated file says that [t]he document classes presented in this section are the basic document classes provided by LaTeX. Problem with enumerate
Hi guys, I've a question I didn't find in FAQ neither Tutorial, I'd like to write: 1. Numerate sample. * Car. * House. * Book. 2. Second numerate sample. But when I add the itemizes, and go to add second numerate sample, LyX puts: 1. Numerate sample. * Car. * House. * Book. 1. Second numerate sample. with the number 1 on the second sample, how can I change this to LyX puts it right? (Number 2). Thanks in advance, PD: Apologizes for my English. -- Pablo Rodríguez González

KDE upgrade + accents
Hi, I run SuSE 9.1 Pro. I've used Lyx for quite a while with a Spanish keyboard and an English overall locale, but now, after doing apt dist-upgrade and getting KDE 3.3.0 working, I can no longer type accents in Lyx: typing an accent plus a vowel gives exactly that: an accent plus a vowel, side by side. When I compiled from source, Lyx complained about not finding keyboard map iso8859-1 in ~/.lyx/preferences. This time, vowels + accents gave... nothing. I'm back to the SuSE rpm. I found the same problem in KWord, but not in OpenOffice nor in Abiword. Qt trouble? Trouble is, I use Lyx... Thanks in advance, Pablo Ortúzar

Hello Rich, I think, as with any other symbol, the meaning depends on the context. As of right now, I am doing my homework on differential topology, and the circled product represents the tensor product. I remember some other cases where circled operators were used to denote vector/matrix operations, as opposed to their scalar counterparts. I've spent more than an hour in google and all I can find is that they are, apparently, AMS symbols, and that they can be represented in LaTeX by, for example, '\oplus'. This does not tell me what sort of mathematical operation is represented. Does anyone have a pointer to an explanation for these symbols? Thanks, Rich -- Dr. Richard B. Re: SOT: meaning of mathematical binary operators
Hello, About the ctrl-d yes, I use it too, no problem with that :-) And yes, with ctrl-d I also see a blank page :-( How can I put the title?. For explain: It seems...that header in first page has a big big separation from Contents, and that is the blank page in middle. Vectorial header
Hi guys, What vectorial images formats does LyX support for importing? Does it support advanced attributes like gradients and patterns? In my case I use freehand 10 and I would like to import a draw for the document's header. Thanks in advance, -- Pablo Rodríguez González Director General [EMAIL PROTECTED] iProyectos Desarrollos Tecnológicos
Making header
Hi guys, Reading in extended documentation to make a header for my templates, I saw that I've to put \chead {My name} in Preamble's box; in Layout/Document, selecting Fancy. But it doesn't put my name, and gave me next error: Undefined control sequence. \chead {My name} The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. But the spelling is correct, or not? Thanks in advance, -- Pablo Rodríguez González Director General [EMAIL PROTECTED] iProyectos Desarrollos Tecnológicos

Re: Centering Contents
First of all, than you very much for your responses. All of them right, except this one: \renewcommand{\contentsname}{\centering Contents} didn't nothing :-(. And...I have one extra page at the beginning of document, with nothing, only the number. I can't erase them and move the Contents to the first page :-/ Any idea?
