Hello,
I have some Problems, I don't really understand. I'm writing my thesis with
Lyx, it is a big document with 300 pages and many *.eps images (diagrams and

When I produce a pdf, everything is fine. When I need to send a part of the
pdf so my friends to read the document, there are several ways to do it. But
all of them are buggy.

When I try to print from acrobat to kprinter's pdf-printer, there is this
error-message: /undefined filename in pdf or there is a conflict with
Qt-symbols (?). But it does never produce a new file.

When I try to produce a ps from LyX, there are no Images at all in the
document, they are just missing (they are not missing in the pdf).

When I say, ok. doesn't matter, and I produce a ps and use psselect afterwards
to produce a part of it and in a third step make ps2pdf to produce my pdf.
The resulting pdf can't be read with acroread (it is not a pdf-document tells
acreread)

So there are a couple of different problems with the pdf-Workflow (there are
just more under Linux, I don't tell now). Has anybody ideas what's the
problem with printing pdf from pdf, why there are no *eps in the ps-output of
lyx or why psselect produces defect postscript files?

Or maybe there are better ways to get a part of a lyx-document as pdf?

Thanks

I am using Lyx 1.3.3. For an IEEETran document, select the abstract and
set the font size from LayoutCharacterSize to normal
The abstract is seen twice in the dvi, ps, and pdf. Assuming one has set
the font to normal once, how can he/she recover? I exported the document
to LaTeX and noticed this mistake I have done sometime in the past.

RE: Image quality in exported documents

2003-08-19 Thread Remzi Seker
Are you talking about the preview (on screen view) or the printout too?
Can you send a sample (small) document? What kind of images are we
really talking about? The problem may be your images (if the lossless
format looks bad, the lossy or compressed version won't look better than
that anyway).

Hello,

I've been using Lyx for about 12 months, and think it's an absolutely
brilliant piece of software. I am currently using version 1.3.1.

However, I have been having major difficulties with the quality of
images in a
document when exporting to DVI, PS or PDF. Images appear kind of
blocky,
almost like they are at a low resolution.

I have tried with various image formats, including JPEG, GIF, PNG and
EPS. I
have included the graphicx package, as I understood that this may be
beneficial when using JPEGs, but it didn't seem to help.

I have tried using different programs, such as dvips, pdflatex, and
tex2pdf,
but they all produce poor output. I am guessing that these programs are
not
the problem, because the DVI itself is poor quality, so I am thinking it

might be a Latex issue? I am not very knowledgable when it comes to
Latex so
I can't be sure.

Any help on this issues is much appreciated. I'm starting a thesis in a
few
weeks, and would hate to have to use a normal word processor, but if I
can't
get my images and charts etc to look acceptable I may have no choice.

Regards,
Alistair

Is there planned support for a glossary of terms feature like MS Word
has? So, you'd select a word, and click on glossary item, and then (in
a popup window), enter a description of the word. In the back of your
document, a glossary would build itself...

This would be extremely useful to me, and i have an idea it could be
done with an ERT or two, but i don't know a thing about latex, so that's
of no use to me..

Subject: glossary of terms?

Is there planned support for a glossary of terms feature like MS Word
has? So, you'd select a word, and click on "glossary item", and then (in
a popup window), enter a description of the word. In the back of your
document, a glossary would build itself...

This would be extremely useful to me, and i have an idea it could be
done with an ERT or two, but i don't know a thing about latex, so that's
of no use to me..

If a table (within a table float) is rotated 90 degrees is there an easy
way of moving the table caption to the top of the table. The default is
to have the caption not rotated and to the right of the table.

2002-10-24 Thread Remzi Seker
How can I get the chapter prefix CHAPTER centered above the chapter title,
such as

  CHATPER 1
   TITLE

I am using komascript book. I read the doc, I can get the prefix inlined with
the title but not as above.

Thanks in advance

indentation of subsection

2002-10-23 Thread Remzi Seker
Hi,
I need to have my subsections flushed to the left. I have the following
definition:

\newlength{\mySpaceUnder}
\newlength{\mySpaceOver}
\setlength{\mySpaceUnder}{0.5ex} % 4cm as an example ;-)
\setlength{\mySpaceOver}{5ex} % 3cm as an example

\renewcommand\subsection{\startsection {subsection}{1}{\z}%
   {\mySpaceOver}%
   {\mySpaceUnder}%
   {\normalfont\small\mdseries\textit}}

How can I get it flushed to the left? (no indentation in the subsec title)

Thanks

enumerate

2002-10-23 Thread Remzi Seker
Hi
(as you can tell, I am very active now, grad. school gavemy dissertation
back and there are bunch of requested changes!)

How can I have the enumerate environment have the number (the first line)
indented but not the rest? The number must end with a ) as well. For
example:

 1) this is blah blah...
and the text is continuing...
 2) this is the second item
the second item is continuting...
second item still goes on.

Thanks

You can use listings package and just link your *.m files..
E-mail me if you want an example.

I am trying to add a Page heading to those lists

   Figure Page

 1.1 figure x ..1
 1.2 figure y ..2

I've been successful adding a Page heading to TOC with
 \addtocontents{toc}{\hfill Page\endgraf} in the preamble.

What needs to be done for the other lists? and where is Herbert Voss?

if you do view-update dvi it still works --without the need to change the
document. This is needed before exporting the file into pdf too.

 Yes.

No, I took a look at the .blg file. If I change the text and run it again,
the results are fine. I tried some other bibtex styles and the problem
doesn't appear with the citations. The problem seems limited, as far as I
can
tell, to the citations when using apacite. For example, IEEEtr seems to
work
 fine.

Simply forcing Lyx to do another Latex pass seems to solve the problem,
i.e.
by modifying the text. And running the sequence latex, bibtex, latex, and
latex from the shell also seems to work.
