This I knew not. But, you are quite correct, it works charmingly.

(specifically, in the language package custom
area:\usepackage{polyglossia}, and in preamble:
\setdefaultlanguage{english} )

This I believe I have to do via the language package custom area in the
document preferences, however using
\usepackage[english]{babel}
breaks unicode-math.

Is the use of babel mandated by blindtext?
Normally, you would use polyglossia with XeTeX/LuaTeX and Unicode
fonts.

Alas, not [auto]...at least, not in LyX 2.0.8. Other settings were already
as you specified.

It doesn't throw an error, but the language isn't being set to english, so
blindtext is outputting lorem ipsum, not english and math as it should.

attempt at quasi-MWE and pdf output attached. Note absence of math, though
\setmathfont is working now.

Actually, ntitai, I tried this originally...before putting
\usepackage[english]{babel} (as the blintext manual directs) in the
language custom area (which now works), and that's where I came in...the
circle is complete. hakunamatata.

PS I haven't updated to LyX 2.1 yet...no, I'll confess: I mean I did
update, but got errors with my files (apparently others too...); I rolled
back and was going to try again, but as I was cleaning up/backing up the
files I needed, got snagged in this blindtext problem...you caught me :-)

[This is being resent. I seem to be having mail server problems. Sorry if it

I am trying to use a font for my main font, and also for math latin and
greek characters, while keeping the rest as is.
At the same time, I want to use blindtext.
blindtext only allows \blindmathtrue if the language has been set to
english:
http://texblog.org/2011/02/26/generating-dummy-textblindtext-with-latex-for-testing/
This I believe I have to do via the language package custom area in the
document preferences, however using
\usepackage[english]{babel}
breaks unicode-math.
I get
! Font \l_tmpb_font has only 8 fontdimen parameters.

If I use the default language package, all works, except, as stated above,
blindtext english/math.

%This is in my preamble:
\usepackage[vargreek-shape=unicode]{unicode-math}
\setmathfont{Latin Modern Math} % this is obligatory or no math font will
be set...
%everything works to here. But this setmathfonts is causing the problem
\setmathfont[range=\mathit/{latin, Latin}]{SNsanafonmaruP} % upper and
lower case latin and numbers % any font will do

\setmainfont[Mapping= tex-text]{SNsanafonmaruP} % not actually relevant
\usepackage{blindtext}

The font doesn't matter; I get the same behavior whatever font I use, even
standard ones...

(NB, this is heavily redacted from a larger set of uses of unicode-math
for nefarious purposes, so this a best effort to produce a MWE for what
seems to be the crux of the matter).

PS apparently an incomplete version of this post got sent. please ignore.

breaks unicode-math.
I get

Image won't update...possible bug?

2014-04-27 Thread asllearner
I am using Lyx 2.0.7.1 on a Mac 10.6.8

I have a simple (less than 2 pages) document that has a few images. I
edited/cropped one image using an external editor (per right click menu). I
saved it over itself.

Now, no matter what I do, it refuses to update the picture. The uncropped
version appears.

In my lyxtmp folder, (which I set via the preferences to a folder in my
documents, since I seemed to be having a problem with the default not having
permissions...separate problem, but it is related, perhaps?) anyhoo, in the
lyx temp folder I can see a bunch of png and eps files. The png files match
the updated version. The eps remain like the uncropped original. I deleted
all the files, reran, and lo and behold, it came back (wrong) again.

I believed that I had moved the temp folder, but I found a folder
/Users/---/Library/Application Support/LyX-2.0/cache that had a bunch of
files endingn in eps, but without extensions, but if i added eps to them, I
could se they were the eps files from my lyx document, and I could see the
bad eps there. I deleted it, reran, and lo and behold, still no good.

I tried closing files, Lyx, and reconfiguring LyX. No go.
I tried reloading the picture. I tried deleting the picture, rerunning, then
inserting the picture again and other various combinations I could think of.

IN THE END: I did manage to get it to work by copying the original file with
a new name, and rerunning. This seems however to be overkill, forces me to
go hunting in the finder for the file, and ruins the naming scheme I use to
make it easier to keep my images in order. At any rate, I don't believe this
is how it should work. Why is there no way to force it to update.

Thanks...

basictex vs. mactex more detail

2013-03-23 Thread asllearner
My situation is as follows. I have been using LyX and MyKteX happily on a window
machine for some time, but now have a mAc with oSx (snow leoparD 10.6) in which
I want to install tEX etcI would classify myself as an intermediate level
TEX user, neither beginner, nor expert. e.g. I use lYx mostly, but I work in
pure TeX every so often.

I have read here
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/70091/focus=70430

that it is possible to install basIctEx and Lyx, and that they *mostly* work
together, except that every so often one has a bit of difficulty finding which
package is missing, if one is.

In my lYx setup on windows, it automatically installs missing packages on the
fly. I don't remember if this is lyX that does this, or miKTex that controls
this. But, as a result, I really haven't ever had to worry too much about
missing packages for some time, and my distribution is now pretty much where I
need it to be. I would like to get to that point on my maC as well.

Is installing missing packages on the fly an option on the Mac?

If not, is installing missing packages really much different on the mac than on
windowZ (e.g. check a log message, search xug or use the miXteK package
installer, maybe add a .sty file to a folder)? What is ltmgr? Is it hard to use?

The route I am tempted to go is install Basictex and Lyx, see what happens, but
then if I need, succumb to the full mActEx. Would I need to uninstall bAsIctEx,
and is that going to be a fairly clean process, and then install MacteX, or
would I install maKTex over it?

thanks in advance

that it is possible to install basIctEx and Lyx, and that they *mostly* work
together, except that every so often one has a bit of difficulty finding which
package is missing, if one is.

Would I need to uninstall bAsIctEx,
and is that going to be a fairly clean process, and then install MacteX, or
would I install maKTex over it?

thanks in advance

basictex vs. mactex more detail

2013-03-23 Thread asllearner
My situation is as follows. I have been using LyX and MyKteX happily on a window
machine for some time, but now have a mAc with oSx (snow leoparD 10.6) in which
I want to install tEX etcI would classify myself as an intermediate level
TEX user, neither beginner, nor expert. e.g. I use lYx mostly, but I work in
"pure" TeX "every so often".

I have read here

lyx process not closing in vista

2012-03-10 Thread asllearner
When I close lyx, if I look at my running processes, it appears that cmd.exe and
its underlying processes, e.g. xetex, are not closing and I need to kill the
tree manually. This must be a bug??
