Re: Image Magick on Windows 2000
Hello Uwe, I followed your instructions and uninstalled Ghostscript and Image Magick. I reinstalled Ghostscript 8.50 and Image Magick 6.1.9 and ended up with the same problem I had originally. I could view .jpg files in LyX but not .eps or .pdf. I could used Image Magick's convert program successfully from the command line though and could view .eps and .pdf using Image Magick's Display program. I then followed Angus Leeming's advice and removed the last section of the convertDefault.sh file. This fixed my problem! I can now view .eps and .pdf files within LyX. The problem is quite reproduceable - whith the original convertDefault.sh the problem occurs, with the modified convertDefault.sh everything appears to be working fine. Thanks for your help. Regards Nick Burgan nburgan mecheng wrote: To be able to view .eps and .pdf within LyX I need to get Image Magick working. GNU Ghostscript 7.05 (this version is recommended on the Image Magick website). Where did you found this? C:\Documents\graphicsconvert eps:aulogo.eps ppm:test.ppm convert.exe: no decode delegate for this image format `aulogo.eps'. convert.exe: missing an image filename `ppm:test.ppm'. As I wrote you in one of the previous emails, the actual Imagemagick has problems to work with older ghostscript versions (only on windows). Uwe

Re: Viewing eps/pdf within LyXWin on Windows 2000
Hi Uwe, Thanks again for your reply. I'm still having a few problems. On the weekend (using Image Magick version 6.1.9) I turned my computer on, started LyX and everything worked fine - I could view .eps and .eps files within LyX. I turned my computer off though and came back a few hours later and it wasn't working again - very strange ! To try and fix the problem I tried a different version of Ghostscript. I tried GNU Ghostscript 7.05 (this was recommended on the Image Magick website). However now I can't get Image Magick to work properly. If I try to view .eps or .pdf images using Image Magick's Display program I get an error. I get the same error using covert from the command line; C:\Documents\graphicsconvert eps:aulogo.eps ppm:test.ppm convert.exe: no decode delegate for this image format `aulogo.eps'. convert.exe: missing an image filename `ppm:test.ppm'. Obviously I need to sort out Image Magick before worrying about LyX. I tried to unintsall Image Magick (via Add/Remove programs) and reinstall it several times but it didn't help. I also tried a slightly older version of Image Magick but they are all giving me the same problem. I think that maybe changing my Ghostscript version has messed Image Magick up. Even when I uninstall Image Magick I can still find references to it in the registry. I think that Image Magick may be trying to use the version of Ghostscript that I no longer have installed. I want to get rid of Image Magick (and possibly Ghostscript) completely so that I can start afresh and install the versions which you are using successfully together. Any ideas ?? Maybe I will send a more general email to the list about Image Magick on Windows 2000 Thanks again in advance Nick Burgan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I was originally using Image Magick 6.0.2 (I think). Any more ideas on what might be wrong?? - assure that the installation folder of LyX and all files and subfolders have full permissions for everybody - assure that you don't use self defined convertes in the menu Edit - Preferences. (There should be only nine converters defined.) The converter EPS - PDF should use the command epstopdf --outfile=$$o $$i If this doesn't help, I have no idea what is going wrong. regards Uwe

Does anyone have any tips on getting Image Magick working? Or on how I can get rid of it (and possible Ghostscript) completely so that I can install them afresh? Thanks in advance Nick Burgan

Re: Viewing eps/pdf within LyXWin on Windows 2000
Thanks for your response Uwe, I was originally using Image Magick 6.0.2 (I think). I upgraded it to 6.1.9 but I am still having the same problem! I am using AFPL Ghostscript 8.50 and LyXWin 1.3.5 win32 nc. - I can view .jpg and .ppm images inside LyX - I can not view .eps or .pdf images inside LyX - I can view the DVI, PDF(pdflatex)and Postscript outputs fine (but not the PDF (dvipdfm) output) I can run convert from the command line ("convert eps:c:\aulogo.eps ppm:c:\test.ppm"), and was able to convert the .eps image that LyX was having trouble with to a .ppm Any more ideas on what might be wrong?? I ran LyX in graphics debug mode and I have included the output at the end of this email. Thanks in advance Nick Burgan > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > >> Despite quite a bit of fiddling around I cant get .eps or .pdf files to >> display within LyX when I insert them into a document. Hello LyX Users, Im trying to get LyXWin running on Windows 2000. I have installed lyx-1.3.5-win32-nc.exe according to the instructions on the LyX WikiWiki LyX.WindowsSetup webpage. After a bit of fiddling around all appeared to be working OK. I seem to be able to create, view etc new documents but I get an error when I try to open some of my older thesis chapters which were created in an older version of LyX (1.1.6 fix 3). When I try to open those files I get an error saying: ERROR! An error occurred while running the converstion script. I have run LyX in the debugging mode from a command prompt to see what is going on and it seems that LyX is unable to run lyx2lyx. The file C:\lyx\share\lyx\lyx2lyx\lyx2lyx exists (4.95 KB) but LyX does not seem to be able to run it. I tried installing a newer version of sed.exe but LyX did not appear to be able to find the newer version of sed. I have included the debugging output at the end of this email. Does anyone know what I can do to get lyx2lyx working as I really need to open and use my older documents?
