SOLVED via help from Uwe.
(a) updated my version of LyX
(b) used absolute image path instead of relative image path, as my compile.lyx
file and my individual.lyx files were in separate directories.

I am trying to put a caption in a longtable (running 1.5rc2). If I set the
width on the cell where I place the caption then the caption will not
over-run the cell, resulting in a very tall cell.
Example:
1. Open the Embedded Objects help file (help-Embedded Objects)
