Hi Wolfgang,

This is not responsive to your question, but in the past I tried Memoir once and
Koma once for books. My findings were that they conflicted with things and
weren't
worth the hassle just for a snazzier look and feel you can probably make
yourself
anyway.

Nowadays I use a layout file, based on the Book document class, for every book.
I
can get pretty much any look I want.

Elisabeth,

I am copying the user list to keep the discussion there (since the list
is archived, and in the hopes a Windows user will chime in -- like
Scott, I use Linux).

Three possibilities come to mind. I suggest checking them in the order I
list them. The first is that the MiKTeX bundle did not install for some
reason. You can test that by checking that there are folders for it and
that article.cls is in one of them. While you are at it, you should note
down the location of latex.exe and pdflatex.exe. If the files are
missing, I suggest downloading a MiKTeX installer from the MiKTeX web site.

The second is that MiKTeX is installed but did not make it onto your
system command path (meaning the system cannot find it when the time
comes to use it). Try running |echo %PATH%| from a command prompt and
see if the path to the .exe files appears there. If not, you can edit
your path to add the missing directories (see, for instance,
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23400030/windows-7-add-path), or you
can just reinstall MiKTeX as in the previous paragraph.

The third (and in my mind least likely) possibility is that MiKTeX is
installed, but with the wrong permissions, so that perhaps only a
"superuser" can run it. This would require that you be logged in with a
user account that does not have "superuser" privileges. That can happen
in some cases where the computer belongs to your employer and the
employer's IT group does not give the user full rights to the machine.
I've been off Windows too long to remember how to fix that, but in all
likelihood it would require the involvement of someone from IT who does
have superuser rights.

I hope that helps.

Paul

Elisabeth,

As a first check, please open a command shell and run the command
'kpsewhich article.cls' (without the quotes). It should respond with the
path to the basic article class in your MiKTeX installation. If it just
returns to the command prompt with no output, that will indicate a
problem with MiKTeX.

OK please keep the discussion on the list then (because I do not know

2.2.2 is released (in a few weeks) and then trying that version, which
contains many bug fixes.

Hi Elisabeth,

I'm sorry for the trouble. That sounds very frustrating! We will release
2.2.2 soon (a matter of weeks). You might want to try that, but I'm not

You might report the bug to OpenSUSE. It is possible it's a packaging
issue, which of course we don't control. The fact that you could
manaually reconfigure means there was probably an earlier
reconfiguration that was done at the wrong time: possibly before LaTeX
had been installed.

Thank you for the suggestion. This solves the first problem, namely the
"Keywords" is now an item in the layout drop-down menu. However, still both the
abstract and the keywords do not show in the output PDF file. Any further hints

Also, is there a tutorial on how to write a layout file like what you

Lyx but a general Tex topic - for some cls files a simple article-type of
layout file like what I pasted just works fine. I'm apparently not a Tex

Section 5.3. It is a bit dense for beginners, but it's a start.
Usually you take an existing working layout example as close to what
you need, try to understand its syntax by looking at the reference
manual, then try to modify as you think would yield useful results.

Add the following to your layout file:

Style Abstract
   Intitle 1
End

In your .lyx file, skip the "From: somewhere on earth" part.
What is it supposed to be? Your affiliation?

The Title, Author, Keyword and Abstract paragraphs should be consecutive
(without anything else in between). This is because, together, they form
the complete title of the document.

Hope this helps. I do not have time to delve more deeply in sagej layout
file definition, unfortunately.

JMarc

Yes! Problem solved. Thanks a million!
The "From:.." was indeed the affiliation. It doesn't work if I use the
"Address" item in the layout drop-down menu for the affiliation. Instead, I
used Tex code in the "Author" section to add affiliation and correspondence
author information and it works perfect. As you said, it seems nothing can be
put between Title, Author, Abstract, and Keywords (although I don't know why
there is the "Address" option there in the drop-down menu available for the
user).
Thanks again. It looks I need to better understand how to write a layout file
if I get similar problems in the future for other document classes.

What I did is the following (all the files mentioned are attached):
1. add sagej.cls to my texlive and put the layout file (sagej.layout) to the desired
location so that Lyx can find and list "article(sagej)" as a document class
(see screenshot file Lyx_sagej.png);
2. edit a file (test_sage.lyx) (see screenshot file Lyx_sagej.png).

Hi,

I do not see why this could be any fundamental problem. First one is
probably an incomplete sage journal layout file (could you provide it?),
and the second one a bad use of the Elsevier class.

The only thing in common between these two examples is that they provide
no data helping to resolve the problem. If you feed us with some, I am

Question - all document classes gone

2014-10-26 Thread Kopf, Sebastian
Dear all,

Unfortunately almost all document classes are gone in Lyx including natbib. In
the past, I installed some additional classes e.g. Springer SV global V3, which
are gone in LYX too even the files are still available in the folder (e.g.
usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/tex/latex/local).
Lyx version 2.12 and MacTex is uptodate including all updates. MacOsX is
Yosemite. I noticed that „Reconfigure“ is way quicker after this bug came.
„Texhash“ and $ sudo -H mktexlsr“ did not help either.

Any idea?

Thank you very much in advance,

Sebastian

A workaround is being worked on in LyX and should be out somewhat
soon. The might be an experimental build available if you are willing

Hi Cee Van,

This is because LyX is not finding your LaTeX installation, which can
occur because a LaTeX installation does not exist or because, for
example, there are PATH issues. Please explain exactly how you
installed LyX, what your OS is, and any other relevant details.

Best,

Sorry, first time using maillists too ;-)
Email in CC is correct? I dont believe i had tex installed before. I will
try again tomorrow and let you know. Your help is appreciated!

No problem, Carsten. You can either email the list directly (to:) or
put it in CC. It is optional to CC the other persons in the
conversation. I usually do that when I suspect they're not on the
list.

OK try the uninstall/reinstall. That's usually the advice I see Uwe
give (the main developer of the LyX installer for Windows).

Hi Cee Van,

This is because LyX is not finding your LaTeX installation, which can
occur because a LaTeX installation does not exist or because, for
example, there are PATH issues. Please explain exactly how you
installed LyX, what your OS is, and any other relevant details.

Best,

Scott

LyX Cant See the Document Classes

2013-08-07 Thread Yannis Tsoumpas
Dear Sir/Madame,

I have downloaded and installed the LyX-2.0.6 on my Windows 7 on which I had
already installed the MikTex 2.8. When i open the application a
window pops up that no article class is found and in fact I face the same
issue with any kind of document class I need to use.

When i look at tools-tex info it shows
all class files (i.e. it knows where the miktex installation is, at
least in some respect).

I tried to find a solution on the web and although a bunch of people is facing
a similar problem I could not trace a satisfactory solution. Thus, I would be
grateful if you could advice me on what I should do.

Looking forward to hear back from you.

classes included by the TeX Live distribution. Is that right? if so, pointers
to their location would be greatly appreciated. I'm on a Mac, with OS X 1.6.8,
in case that matters.

Hard to tell. What OS? What class are you using? Has it been working

uninstalling LaTeX? Have you tried reinstalling LaTeX? Have you tried
Tools Reconfigure in LyX, and then restart LyX? Do you have access

All document classes are unavailable......

2011-02-22 Thread Charlie

Using LyX version 2.0.0beta4
(Monday, 7 February 2011)

On Debian testing on two systems. On one, the latest upgraded system,
all the document classes are unavailable without exception.

Yet the document classes that are said to be absent are all present.
I cannot access the /usr/share/texmf file. It gives me an error message
that I don't have permission to read that directory. Transferring it to
my home directory and changing the permissions and access so I can read
it, makes no difference.

This after texhashing and reconfiguring and jumping through all manner
of hoops, including uninstalling and reinstalling LyX.

This system, which I won't upgrade at the moment because of the problem
with the other, has all document classes available, but hasn't been
upgraded for some days, mainly because an upgrade will remove texlive.

Just a heads up for other users. I assume it will be fixed by an
upgrade in the future.

Be well,
Charlie

LyX 1.6 on a new laptop running Windows XP with SP3. LyX works perfectly
on my old laptop which is identical. When I install LyX it installs
smoothly except it cannot find the aspell6-en dictionary so I have to
skip that step. When I start LyX all document classes are marked as
unavailable, but if I select one I get the message that it is not usable
and a class or style file may not be available. I have tried the obvious
and not so obvious stuff like:-
- Tools Reconfigure.
- Run configure.py, LaTeX found.
- Run kpsewhich, finds article.cls.
- Check textclass.lst, all false.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both MikTex and Lyx several times,
even tried several different versions of each.
How do I get LyX to see all the standard document classes, and as an
aside, the spell checker to install without error?
Thanks
Mark

After starting LyX, check Help About LyX and note the user directory
(typically ~\Application Data\lyx16 on XP, but best to confirm it). Shut
down LyX, then locate and delete that directory (and everything beneath
it). Restart LyX and see if things improve. If not,
reconfigure/restart. If that still does not help, we'll have to look
for other possible remedies.

You attachment was replaced by your mail provider with a textfile. Please
resend it zipped.

You haven#t answered Vincent's question. What is the path to the lyx.exe on
your PC?
And, also important, what is your username when you log into your Windows?
You don't need to answer the last question on this list, just assure that your username don't
consist of an accented character.

[help]: lyx 1.6.5: document classes not configured

2010-02-23 Thread franck.meyer
Hi,

I have installed Lyx 1.6.5 on 2 computers (both on Windows xp). The
first one was with an old Miktex 2.7 and I have no problem.

The second one, my laptop, didn't have latex so I installed miktex 2.8
(complete version) first.
Then I have installed Lyx 1..6.5 but I had a problem: all the layouts
are not recognized so I can't view neither print documents (document
class not available says Lyx when loading the file)
When I look at the texclass.lst, all layouts seem to be set at false.

I 've just tried to desinstall Miktek and Lyx, and to reinstall (first
Miktex then Lyx as previously): but I still have the same problem (and
the same texclass.lst, see attached file).
When I use Texworks (installed with Miktex) on a short example the
layouts (book, article) seem to work and Texworks generates the pdf, so
Miktex doesn't seem to be the problem?

What's wrong with my installation?

Thanks in advance,
Frank. textclass.lst

Most likely, LyX could not find Miktex at the time LyX configured itself.

If things have changed, just do a Tools-Reconfigure in LyX, and it
might fix itself. If it still doesn't find anything, check that

the miktex executables is in the PATH. (LyX does not try to find it
anywhere else.)

Test:
Open a cmd.exe window, try a command like pdflatex. If that fails, you
have found the problem. Correct the PATH so it includes whatever folder
the miktex program files resides in. Then, restart LyX and do the

Tools-Reconfigure. Restart LyX again, and it ought to work.
