Bitmaps formats are not the best, but ought to be ok for a presentation.
A bitmap that gets stretched may look bad. I find it very strange if
your images gets worse as you edit your document - except if your
editing consist of changing image sizes.

 But is there a
particular image format that latex would understand 'better' than
 others ?

There are several vector formats, such as pdf and eps. These work
better, _if_ you make images that really are vector graphichs. Merely

converting your jpegs to eps won't help, LyX do that automatically already.

Yeah that is one clever solution, I will use that. But is there a
particular image format that latex would understand 'better' than
others ?

One more thing, I even tried to make a pdf with just that pic so that
I include this 'pic-pdf' instead of the pic itself. But I get 2 pages,
 instead of one.
How do I sort this out?

All image formats you are mentioning use pixels and not vectors, which
could result in blurry images when zoomed too much. Can you obtain
your images in a vector format, such as .svg or .pdf?

Perhaps you didn't scale well enough the picture. Try clicking on the
image and setting a reasonable percentage for the size of the picture.

Please reply to the list (where more people could help you) and

Hmm, autofit to a page, probably not. I think you would need to find
the right percentage by trial and error. Welcome to LaTeX!
