What we have now are math macros (look in the user guide on how to do
that). Once the macro is setup, you can probably bind a key to
math-insert foo
to insert macro foo.
I do not know whether this is what you want...

Hi all,
So far I've been quite happy with LyX for some 3 years now. I've done a

problems for the students and so on. However, I have to write a LOT of

I have two problems with math macros.
1) I would like to put all my lyx math macros into one
lyx file and then include them into each chapter of
my thesis. However there doesn't seem to be a way
to do this. Each document inclusion method I tried
doesn't work. Most fustrating

Hi there!
I just had some problems latexing one of my lyx-files. I found out that
the name of a macro must not contain any numbers, i.e. a macro named
gl2x is not possible. Unfortunately LyX doesn't complain if you use a
number in the name of a macro. I think this should be changed. LyX

Sorry for not having thought about that ...
That's ok -- now that it is known, it can be fixed! :)

Hello,
so, you do "M-x msol" , then write a 'm' with a dot, then use,
in math-mode, the macro '\msol', which appears fine on the screen,
but LaTeX won't compile? Strange indeed.
Could you create a short file, with e.g. just the macro definition
and an instance of it, check whether LaTeX

It seemed to me that this would allow me to define a macro, say "msol", to save
me from having to type a lot when I want to insert the M-with-subscripted-odot

into a math box and typed "\msol"
it. :)
It's puzzling that this is so, however... some kind of hierarchy
consideration, maybe? I also found that, even if the macro is defined in
another currently opened document, but *not* in the one in which it is used, it
will display correctly on-screen! This seems to me a definite bug -
