The short answer is: no problem.

When you moved it, LyX turns to the default preferences file located
within the LyX.app bundle. It will create a new preferences file in ~/
Library/Application Support/LyX/ only if you modify any settings.

The new error message has nothing to do with your PDF viewer -- LyX
cannot run latex (or pdflatex) against the document because it cannot
find the book class (which the document apparently uses). Take a look
at Help-LaTeX Configuration. First note the date (third line) and make
sure it conforms to the date you most recently reconfigured LyX. Then
scroll down to section 3.3 and see if it says 'yes' or 'no' for having
found the book class. (Based on the error message, it is likely to say
'no'.) If it says 'no', make sure you have the book class installed in
your LaTeX setup. If you do, try regenerating your LaTeX file
directory, then reconfigure LyX again (and restart LyX).

Hmmm, are the paths in your newly-installed LyX the correcto ones?
If it fails to reconfigure, this could be the case (paths may vary
depending on whether you use Fink or Darwinports or I-Installer,
and, especially, depending on what LyX expects to find where).

Check them (in Preferences: Paths), it could well be the case.

Good luck!

Click your way into Edit-Preferences-File formats and highlight PDF
(pdflatex). In the Viewer field, type the command to invoke whatever
viewer you use (e.g., acrord32 if you use Acrobat Reader on a Windows

Good luck!

What happens if you quit LyX, move your ~/Library/Application Support/

find the book class (which the document apparently uses). Take a
look
at Help->LaTeX Configuration. First note the date (third line)
and make
sure it conforms to the date you most recently reconfigured LyX.
Then
scroll down to section 3.3 and see if it says 'yes' or 'no' for
having
found the book class. (Based on the error message, it is likely
to say
'no'.) If it says 'no', make sure you have the book class
installed in

your LaTeX setup. If you do, try regenerating your LaTeX file
directory, then reconfigure LyX again (and restart LyX).

Thanx Paul.

Date in "LaTeX Configuration" doesn't appear, just "???", the same in
the book class. The book class appeared before making the first change
you told me to do (adding the viewer command). I undid the changes but
it remains "???" for the fields asked and the samen error presented.

I believe I'll have to reinstall LaTeX, don't I?

I installed it from the image file for Mac OS X (drag and drop to the
Applications folder).

PATH prefix is clean.

I installed TeX using i-installer.

Good luck!

Don't do this yet -- if your previous LyX was working, upgrading
shouldn't affect this.

Yes: it appears you didn't run the LyX-installer.app, which will make
sure that PATH prefix is set properly (which it isn't in your case).
You can either run the LyX-installer (which came with the LyX-1.3.7
binary), or you can simply cut and paste this into your PATH prefix
(all on one line):

/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-

appears that all my document classes are unavailable: "Unavailable:

This was working before tweaking the PDF viewer path.

Yes: it appears you didn't run the LyX-installer.app, which will
make sure that PATH prefix is set properly (which it isn't in your
case). You can either run the LyX-installer (which came with the
LyX-1.3.7 binary), or you can simply cut and paste this into your
PATH prefix (all on one line):

/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-
current:/usr/X11R6/bin:/sw/bin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin

Sorry -- I should have added: you'll then need to reconfigure LyX and
restart.

Thanx Bennet, the document classes are OK again, but the original
problems remains. When I select View->PDF (pdflatex), LyX opens the
Preview tool but no PDF file has been created. I had to print the
document to a PS file in order to preview it, via PS to PDF converter.

What happens if you quit LyX, move your ~/Library/Application Support/
LyX/preferences file aside, and restart LyX? (I'm wondering if
something else in your settings has gotten corrupted.)

Makes sense -- if the reconfigure you did after changing the PDF viewer
path failed, it would kill off all your document classes, not just one.

The key is to get LyX to reconfigure successfully.

Click your way into Edit-Preferences-File formats and highlight PDF
