Anyway, you will run into some difficulties with the abstract and the title of the article. I played with a workaround that you can find here: http://www.md.kth.se/~chr/lyx/book-article-combo/ Basically I give what will appear as the title and abstract as arguments to different commands depending on if this is for the book or an separate article. Anyway, check out the beginning of the file preamble.tex and the preamble of the article (reviewIntroduction.lyx). But you'll probably run into other problems as well, and some of them are going to be of the type: This chapter will show that... which in the article should read as This article will show that..., i.e. the language is different.
