Hi Fabian,

How did you install TeX Live? apt-get install texlive-full or a manual
install? Also, which version of LyX are you using?

I'm new to this conversation, but why didn't you follow the

While I was not able to solve the entire issue you are having, I have no

It seems to be some problem something the cv class (or layout) is doing.

Re: moderncv template error to compile

2011-05-18 Thread Manolo Martínez

It is, indeed, an empty moderncv document. The information in the
preamble is enough to make LyX choke.

It is because your file uses the preamble of the LyX example file that came
 with LyX 1.6.0. Since
LyX 1.6.8 the preamble is adapted to run also with the latest modernCV
 versions. I therefore
recommend to replace your preamble with that you find in LyX's modernCV
 example file. Alternatively,
delete in your file the last preamble line
 \AtBeginDocument{\maketitle}
as I did in the attached file.

... and add \maketitle in ERT at the beginning of the document --
otherwise it doesn't print the header with name, address, etc.

Now it does work. Thanks for the info, Uwe.

I have a similar problem. There are two crude ways for the document to
compile:

1. I've noticed that changing the style from classic to casual -- in
Document/Configuration/Preamble -- allows it to compile.
2. commenting out the reference to the email (also in the preamble) does
the trick too.

This is enough for me for the time being; but I realise that it's not
ideal: maybe you prefer the classic style and/or cannot make do without
the e-mail field. I'd very much like to know of better solutions.

I come up with my solution number 2 because pdflatex does compile
a .tex exported by LyX -- after hitting enter a couple of times -- but,
in the e-mail field, shows the e-mail you introduced prefixed with
magenta. That is, in my case: magentaman...@austrohungaro.com.
A very cool bug :) There must be a semicolon missing somewhere...

It doesn't work because you are using an outdated version of LyX. You need at least LyX 1.6.8 to get
modernCV working with the latest version of the modernCV LaTeX-package.

I recommend to update to LyX 1.6.10.

modernCV working with the latest version of the modernCV LaTeX-package.

I recommend to update to LyX 1.6.10.

Re: moderncv template error to compile

2011-05-16 Thread Manolo Martínez
I have a similar problem. There are two crude ways for the document to
compile:

1. I've noticed that changing the style from "classic" to "casual" -- in
Document/Configuration/Preamble -- allows it to compile.
2. commenting out the reference to the email (also in the preamble) does
the trick too.

This is enough for me for the time being; but I realise that it's not
ideal: maybe you prefer the classic style and/or cannot make do without
the e-mail field. I'd very much like to know of better solutions.

I come up with my "solution" number 2 because pdflatex does compile
a .tex exported by LyX -- after hitting enter a couple of times -- but,
in the e-mail field, shows the e-mail you introduced prefixed with
"magenta". That is, in my case: magentaman...@austrohungaro.com.
A very cool bug :) There must be a semicolon missing somewhere...

This is a bug in the example bibtex file which is shipped with LyX

Thanks. Who need Bibtex entries in a CV, after all.

If I just remove the whole references section and then generate the PDF

entries on the next page. Ouch. _Any_ dumb word processor does better
than that.

Is this moderncv class really considered to be actually usable?

This is a bug in the example bibtex file which is shipped with LyX and

One entry uses a non-native command (from the mhchem package), namely \ce.
Just replace the bibliography file by another one, for instance xampl.bib,

For the next version of LyX, we will remove the concerned entry.

Re: moderncv and bib as publications

2008-10-25 Thread B. Bogart
Thanks Xavier,

Indeed it *is* working directly from lyx with the \recomputelengths
command.

I just did not realize my outer margin was set at 0.25! Everything is
looking fine now.

Thanks so much for your help.

I'll send you a diff for the brown colour in another email.

Thanks to Richard for helping me with this also.

Your file compiles perfectly fine on my computer! There is only a small
bug in the alignment of the contact details (due to the spacing for the
photo), that is corrected in the attached theme file (to be released as
soon as I get back from holidays and correct some other small bugs).

I've attached your .tex file and the .pdf compilation I get, both for
0.25in and 1in as right margin. If there is still a bug that I haven't
 spotted, just let me know.

Line 9 is generated by LyX.

I tried adding \recomputelengths in various places (just before the bib,
right at the top of the document) in my LyX document as tex code, which
does not result in any change in appearance (lines still wrap long).

So I tried inserting the command directly after line 9 in the tex file I
sent (generated from lyx, attached) and STILL I don't see any change in
appearance. I even dropped my hacked moderncv for the official one, and
still the \recomputelengths commands seems to make no difference.

I've attached the modified tex file (with \recomputelengths) and my bib
 again.

I'm generating a PDF like so:

Hi Richard and all,

I'm reviving this thread as I was unable to get moderncv to format a bib
properly.

The approach of using a bib (rather than me manually entering the
information using entry/item types) seems best. The output appears in
the right order, and the spacing appears largely correct.

The main issue is that the lines wrap only at the right margin, not at
the point where the entry and item lines wrap. (see Screenshot attached)

Is there a way I can force a width for those bib lines?

Has anyone been able to get a bib in moderncv to appear properly?

I get the same problems bypassing lyx...

Again attached are my files for reference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I'm stuck and have a job
application to do.

I did try using item/entry to manually include bib entries and that was
even worse a mess.

I haven't been able to figure this out. I'd try posting a message here:
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/moderncv
It looks like the developer is fairly responsive.

The bib (and ERT above it) is in the standard environment. I just did
a quick test adding text at the bottom of the bib in standard, and I am
surprised: the text is not indented, and wraps very wide rather than
wrapping where the \cventry lines wrap.

Still the bib is wrapped differently and indented. I tried a few other
environments for the bib, and all do strange things that are worse than
the default. Even the bibliography moderncv env shows things improperly.

Perhaps I'm not supposed to do this type of thing in moderncv.

I would hope that you could do that.

If you could send me the cv file and the associated bib file, I'll see
if I can have a look.

Hello all,

I've started converting my CV over to moderncv.

I see a few hacks on the wiki which I will play with, but I'm stuck on
using a bibtex database as a publications section.

I tried the using code from the moderncv example using ERT:

\nocite{*}
\bibliographystyle{plain}
\bibliography{publications}

This results in a References section header, but no content.

I expect the problem is that LyX thinks you don't have a bibliography,
so it isn't running bibtex. Export to LaTeX and compile from the command
line. That will likely work.

I managed to get output by including only \nocite{*} as ERT, and adding
the bib in the normal lyx way beneath.

Now this works, but does not appear to fit with the rest of the moderncv
text, the line wrap is much wider and the font looks too small (see
attached).

Here again, export to LaTeX (or ViewSource), and you'll be able to see
what LyX is doing. It may be that you've got the bibliography inside
some other environment.

Also how can I change the name of the section to Publications rather
than References?

Actually, I think the problem may be that you've put the bibliography
INSET inside a bibliography ENVIRONMENT. That's why you have the double
header: Publications, then References. The bibliography inset should
just go inside Standard.
