RevTeX 4: sectioning commands inside widetext
Using: LyX v. 2.3.7. Class: REVTeX 4.1, options: aip, reprint RevTeX allows sections inside widetext regions. However, with LyX, section, subsection and Wide Text are all accessed by the drop-down menu and each command/environment has its own context on the LyX screen. The only way I've found was to insert the \subsection{} command inside an ERT within the widetext environment. Re: REVTeX 4.1 Class Behavior Inquiry
1. The diamond/line separating the references from the remainder of the document spans both columns when I would expect it to span one. This seems to be true only for papers prepared for prl, not prb. 2. The "Electronic Addess" for the author appears in a footnote on the second (last?) page, not the first. I don't think this has anything to do with LyX, it's just how revtex class behaves. You can see many examples of it on arXiv. APS, if I remember correctly, uses some other software to produce printed papers.
REVTeX 4.1 Class Behavior Inquiry
Sorry if you're seeing this a second time; however, it appears to me as though it was never processed/received by the list. I've omitted the example files this time in case that caused the problem. Original text below. I'm currently using the REVTeX (v. 4.1) document class within LyX 2.2.0rc1 on OSX 10.11.4 with custom behavior "12pt,aps.prb,reprint,twocolumn". A couple strange behaviors I'm seeing that I wonder if anyone else experienced: 1. The diamond/line separating the references from the remainder of the document spans both columns when I would expect it to span one. 2. The "Electronic Addess" for the author appears in a footnote on the second (last?) page, not the first. Example in the attached. Thoughts on how to make this "more like" the actual paper format? Thank you, Joel

longbilbiography in revtex doesn't seem to work
Dear all, The class option longbilbiography is supposed to add the title in the bilbliography when using RevTeX class. I noticed this option is not working, though. Is there an explanation for this ? I had trouble using the version you posted for Lyx 1.6.x, similar to that discussed in http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg84557.html It turns out that all it was was that my browser broke up the \DeclareLatexClass line, moving the \DeclareLatexClass command to the line following the # , which caused the LyX Reconfigure command to fail. Moving the # , \DeclareLatexClass..., and (REVTEX 4.1)} [3 separate lines as my browser gave it to me] to the same line resulted in a working LyX Reconfigure. Sorry to send this mail to you. I tried to reply to Eric Cavalcanti, who posted the question, but I can't get to a working reply screen. This issue is not to be expected when using the standard setup. But the impossibility to diagnose an error situation is a bug too. It's very hard to guess what's so special at your machine to make it fail. I added the revtex4-1.layout to my private layout files in my user directory of LyX as you did. But the reconfigure works for me. Therefore I'm unable to help diagnosing the problem. And I'm unable to create the same configuration as you're using it. I have Mac OS 10.6.5

When I check in texmf-dist/tex/latex/revtex, revtex4-1.cls is present. I've run sudo texhash several times and have reconfigured LyX several times. However, whenever I try to select "Article (REVTeX 4.1)" in Lyx, I get the following error: "The document class revtex4-1 could not be loaded." I'm at a lost as to why it is not loading. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The error message is saying that the layout file could not be loaded. If you've downloaded the layout file from the wiki here: http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Revtex4-1 then the problem is that this is for LyX 2.0, not for LyX 1.6.x. I've added a note to that effect to the wiki. The error messages for this kind of thing will be more informative in 2.0. Richard

Re: REVTeX 4.1 layout: alpha
Hi Manolo, Thanks! I will attach the AIP sample (aipsamp.tex) that came with RevTeX 4.1, and my LyX port of that file (aipsamp-lyx.lyx) in a separate email to you (too big for this list). I'll also attach PDFs generated from aipsamp.tex and from aipsamp-lyx.lyx. It would help if you could port the APS sample that comes with revtex to lyx and compare the PDFs or DVIs generated from those. The easy part is in applying the layout. The time-consuming part is in copy-pasting the latex source and converting the tex markup into lyx equivalent. To speed this up see the last appendix that I created in aipsamp-lyx.lyx (how to use lyx with revtex). Latest RevTeX 4.1 can be downloaded from http://authors.aps.org/revtex4/ - they have already fixed a few bugs At present, I am experiencing trouble with the \listofvideos command. LyX properly inserts this command where I want it but my latex doesn't compile and therefore my DVI and PDF are not being generated. Let me know if you happen to see the same. If there is a bug we could file a report. The video environment is a new feature that they have just begun to support. If you have suggestions for improvement those would be welcome. See my other message about your compilation error. * Using \cite instead of \footnote for footnotes as the REVTeX guide suggests. So far \footnote works but may not be acceptable by journals. Will using the LyX citation inset generate proper latex? I don't see any mention of this in the revtex user's guide. I don't see a problem with this. Revtex produces a .bib file from your footnotes and use the bibtex mechanism. For submission you need to inline the bibitems anyway. * New feature: structured abstracts using the description environment This works (at the level of LyX) out-of-the-box. One can insert description or other list environments and increase their nesting depth (using TAB or the toolbar buttons). * Test newly added support for arXiv.org in BibTeX This should just work. More interesting are these features, which would require changes in the LyX citation dialog (or use of ERT): - Multiple references in a single bibliography entry. - Prepending and/or appending text to a citation. - Online citation \onlinecite (this is not new in revtex 4.1, but maybe now is an opportunity to implement it in LyX) * Port the LaTeX AIP sample to LyX and visually diff the generated PDFs * Port the LaTeX APS sample to LyX and visually diff the generated PDFs This would indeed be a nice accomplishment. -- Julien

I also find that if I change the revtex4 to book, it compiles. So there's some conflict between revtex4 and setspace. I think there's probably something missing from revtex4.cls (or revsymb.sty) that exists in book.cls, but I couldn't find it. One thing I might recommend is that you put the following into the LyX part of your layout file: Input stdclass.inc Format 2 That's helped me out of similar situations. This might be intentional, as changing line spacing is considered non-standard use (or mis-use) of such classes, that aim to provide a very specific layout.
