Simplest thing to do is to, with regard to margins and other things set from the preferences menu is to get it all like you need, and then save the layout as default. For more complicated stuff, like fancy headers and modifications to the sectioning, do the same thing: put your header commands

Is there a way to make new document classes or modify existing ones? I like Article, but would like to cut out the date after the title. Also Invoice would be nice. I found out recently that patent attorneys use MS Word to write patents. I find this strange. The reference feature makes LyX ideal
