No, just run LyX from within the debugger of your choice. Here are some (very) 
basic instructions, only relevant if you didn't use a debugger yet:

Is anyone else having problems with instability and multiple child
docs?  I've had LyX crash about 1/2 a dozen times today alone with
this.  (It just vanishes.)

If there is some place I'm likely to find a backtrace, I'm happy to
share it privately.

Some issues were fixed in this area for forthcoming 1.6.3.
Anyway, if you can find a reliable way to reproduce it, you should report it 
to the devel list or to trac:
