Just a general advise (independent of using LyX): Minor OS updates (12.1, 12.2, etc.) should be no problem. But it might be a good idea to hold of on major OS update when some important deadline is coming up. Major versions are much more likely to be disruptive. Hello, we (not me actually) are working on it currently. This a question of having python3 versus python2 available.
