Bibliography style inconsistency

Hi, I am using plain bibtex style file plain.bst It seems that there is inconsistency in that entiries from books/proceedings have the word pages and articles from journals do not. For example: [1] A. John. Mesurement of frequency. Frequency Journal, 22(3):217-223,June 1998. [2] B. Peter.
