Copy the .sty files in C:\Program Files\LyX16\Resources\tex (or wherever your
installation is), then open ClassicThesis.lyx, which is the master file
and make a pdf of the file. MiKTeX should automatically install any missing
packages. If it doesn't add them manually.

I recently tried to create a layout file for this style but gave up. Classicthesis is not a document
class but extends the document class report (KOMA-skript). Unnecessarily it redefined major
environments like title, author so that the LyX file would be full of LaTeX command and preamble code.

Just download the zip-file and extract it. Finally open the file ClassicThesis.lyx with LyX and
start writing. When you view the file as PDF for the first time. MiKTeX or TeXLive will install the
needed LaTeX-packages. If you get errors that a .sty file could not be found you need to install
this file manually to your LaTeX distribution - this is complicated for a new user.
If you can view the file as PDF, you can start writing your thesis but be aware that you need to
know LaTeX or at least own a book about it, because the Classicthesis LyX files are using many LaTeX
commands. You can later only change the style of your thesis when you know what these commands are
doing.

Besides this, I also created a thesis style based on the class book (KOMA-skript). I tired to
avoid as many LaTeX commands and preamble code as possible. It works without the need to install
further LaTeX-packages. You might give it a try by downloading the LyX files from here:

Did you set up some more fonts or change things after the standard
installation of your TeX distribution (and which TeX distro do you use)?

It turns out I had too few fonts installed. After installing the ubuntu
package texlive-fonts-extra, the style works perfectly.

Thanks for helping me see this, Günter.

It most certainly is a font issue. Could you try if this happens

with every math formula,
only with sub- and superscripts,
maybe with formulae in headings or otherwise scaled?

Actually, you need no math formula for the error to show A title in an
otherwise empty file is enough. Say,

\title{blah}\maketitle

Does the problem go away if you choose a different font set

What commands exactly fix the font set?

Could you be more specific about your font setup?

I can try. How can I find the info you need?

with a specific font at a certain font size.

Several. In LyX, you can select a font with DocumentSettingsFont...

And if you select [Default] in LyX, you can set your choice in the LaTeX

However, also the document class could select a special font.
Maybe disabling (commenting) the \usepackage{extsize} could already help.

Maybe you can post a minimal example (smallest possible LyX file that

I get this error with as simple a file as the one I am attaching

I also attach Mariette's preamble.sty, so that you can easily replicate

the \fontdimen values needed in math symbol fonts.

I get this error with as simple a file as the one I am attaching
(test.lyx), using report (KOMA-Script) as class, and adding in the
preamble:  \usepackage{preamble}

I also attach Mariette's preamble.sty, so that you can easily replicate
the problem.

After some googling I've come to think that this has to do with my
having some fonts installed which supersede the order to escale some
other fonts. But beyond that, I do not really know where to look.

I hope you can help me with this. Thanks,
Manolo

I don't have the time to investigate your problem in detail. But I can provide
you a LyX thesis
template I created for my institute and that I'm using for my thesis.
You might give it a try. If so I'm interested to get some feedback.

Classic Thesis and LyX

2009-09-03 Thread Manolo Martínez

Hello,

I'm trying to get Nick Mariette's port of André Miede's Classic Thesis
style for LyX to work. I'm talking about this:
http://www.soundsorange.net/resources/classic-thesis-for-lyx/ in case
you are not familiar with it.

I'm getting several "Math formula deleted: Insufficient symbol fonts."
errors every time I try to run pdflatex. The description of the error is:

"Sorry, but I can't typeset math unless \textfont 2

and \scriptfont 2 and \scriptscriptfont 2 have all

the \fontdimen values needed in math symbol fonts."

I get this error with as simple a file as the one I am attaching
(test.lyx), using report (KOMA-Script) as class, and adding in the
preamble:  \usepackage{preamble}

I also attach Mariette's preamble.sty, so that you can easily replicate
the problem.

After some googling I've come to think that this has to do with my
having some fonts installed which supersede the order to escale some
other fonts. But beyond that, I do not really know where to look.

I hope you can help me with this. Thanks,
Manolo
