Cannot change screen colors, LyX-2.2.1 on MacOSX El Capitan
Hi LyX Experts, I am a new LyX user. I installed Lyx-2.2.1 from the official LyX-2.2.1+qt5-x86_64-cocoa.dmg installer on Mac OSX El Capitan (version 10.11.6). Everything seems to be working OK except for one issue. I cannot change any of the screen colors. I open LyX->Preferences->Look>Colors and get a list of colors. Double clicking a color (or clicking Alter... button) brings up color choosing dialog. In this dialog I can pick a color I like. But when I press OK button, both the color-choosing dialog and the Preferences dialog itself disappear without a trace. My choices are not remembered. Am I doing something wrong or it is a bug? Thanks, -- Leo
LYX 2.1.4 and El Capitan: Error converting eps and PDF
I installed LyX 2.1.4. on a Mac with El Capitan. When I insert a pdf or eps figure, LyX displays an error in converting the file; accordingly I can't see the figure in the software. The output PDF is created without any problem. I was able to start LyX using the command line and this is the error: sh: convert: command not found This is the path: /Library/TeX/texbin:/usr/texbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin I obtained the same error using LyX 2.2 beta version. Can anyone help with this issue?

Re: Math Palettes are ineffective (MAC OS EL CAPITAN - LyX 2.1.4)
I can confirm this problem. My suggestion is to type out the latex form for characters rather than using the palettes. This is faster, but does require that you know the latex form. Math Palettes are ineffective (MAC OS EL CAPITAN - LyX 2.1.4)
Hi all, I just updated Lyx to 2.1.4 on a Powerbook Pro with OS X (10.11.1). There is a very interesting, strange and bothersome phenomena : the math palettes are „transparent“ for the mouse. If you click on a math palette with a background that is not the Lyx window, it works. On the contrary if you click on a math palette with a background that is the Lyx window, then what you get is what you would get without the math palette popped… I saw some discussions on that subject in the archive in early October but no solution. Any one has anything to suggest ? Thanks :-) _ Pierre Bessière pie...@bessiere.org Skype: Pierre.Bessiere _

This is a LaTeX issue :-)-O I use the latest version of LyX with 2015 BasicTeX (and some additional packages via tlmgr). Great! So long as SIP doesn't break any other software that you use (which is not the case for me), a solution that doesn't involve disabling it is of course better. -chris On Sat, Oct 3, 2015, 12:42 AM Paola Manzini <pm...@st-andrews.ac.uk> wrote: > many thanks Chris! > > But before going there, I have found another issue, at least with my > settings, which once fixed also fixed the greyed out icon problem: if one > goes in Settings\File Handling\File Formats and selects “PDF (pdflatex)” in > the second to last dropdown menu in the settings, the one saying “With TeX > fonts”, that makes the icons “live again”, at least it did work for me, > hope it does for others too! As a faster workaround, try "insert by macro name". In a formula, you can always use the LaTeX command to insert a symbol. A LaTeX command starts with a backslash followed by the name, e.g. \alpha will be replaced by a blue italic letter alpha I can see most command names as tooltip in the math panels (maybe this does no longer work at your site) and I can see the command names (after inserting) in the source pane (View>Source Pane>LaTeX). I actually find the macro-insert method the fastest and most convenient method to input mathematical content (but this may be due to my LaTeX background). Günter
Re: El Capitan
You can almost surely solve your El Capitan problems if you disable the new System Integrity Protection feature (a.k.a. rootless mode), which among other things prevents the creation of symlinks in /usr. Note that there are some good security reasons for SIP — in particular it makes it much harder for malware to be installed on your system (though that can still be avoided simply by taking the usual precautions about clicking on unknown links, installing software from unknown or unproven sources, etc). So I'm not recommending that anyone do this but just putting the information and the option out there so folks can make an informed choice: http://goo.gl/W5AZpe <http://goo.gl/W5AZpe>. Re: El Capitan
many thanks Chris! But before going there, I have found another issue, at least with my settings, which once fixed also fixed the greyed out icon problem: if one goes in Settings\File Handling\File Formats and selects “PDF (pdflatex)” in the second to last dropdown menu in the settings, the one saying “With TeX fonts”, that makes the icons “live again”, at least it did work for me, hope it does for others too! For the last dropdown, “With nonTeX fonts, I have pdf (pdfXeTeX), in case that also matters). I can't insert symbols in math environments since I switched to El Capitan
Hi everyone, I just updated MacOS X to El Capitan and, since I did, I cannot insert symbols in math environments anymore. When I click on a button at the bottom of the LyX window to insert a symbol like a Greek letter, it displays the list of symbols of that type, but the mouse pointer is the same as if it was just above my text so I can't click on any of the symbols. Does anybody else has this problem since they updated MacOS X? This is really bad for me because it means I basically cannot do *any* work! So I hope it will be solved rapidly, I'm kind of desperate right now... Best, Philippe
Re: I can't insert symbols in math environments since I switched to El Capitan
Hey Paola, Thanks again for your help but, after trying, I still can't make it work. I click on the button at the bottom of the LyX window, that opens the panel with all the Greek letters. But then I still can't click on the letter I want, even if I try to click on every empty spaces I can find in the panel first. Could you say more about what empty spaces you're talking about? What version of LyX do you use? I'm using version 2.1.4. I agree that the problem seems to be that, when you open a panel with different symbols, LyX doesn't realize the panel is opened and you can't insert a symbol by clicking on it. Right now the only way I can insert symbols is by using the menu, but that's a major waste of time. I really hope a fix will be released soon. Best, Philippe
Re: I can't insert symbols in math environments since I switched to El Capitan
I just found out that this problem had been mentioned on the developers's list: http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg188996.html. That poster also shows one thing that solves the problem, though in a very unsatisfactory way. Is that the trick you were describing?

Re: I can't insert symbols in math environments since I switched to El Capitan
Philippe, I have the same problem, but playing aournd with this, I have found the following: first click with the mouse on the "empty" space to the right corner of the greek letters panel (nothing happens), then click on the letter you need. It is as if the mouse was not recognising the panel with the letters was open: if you over over \beta for instance you can see "set top line", so it is as if you were hovering over the set top line symbol, wihtout the panel open. Clicking on the empy part of the panel with the greek letters seem to make LyX understand the panel is there. ok, do not know why, but this works: go into the Document settings, select "Fonts", and tick the option "Use non-TeX fonts (via XeTeX/LuaTeX)".
