Wrap floats are not every stable - its placing algorithm can fail as in your case. Workarounds are
described in sec. 3.2.2 Wrap Floats of the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find in LyX's Help menu.

That must be the euphemism of the century...

In my experience, warp floats are very difficult to work with, since the
algorithm almost always fails when the figure+caption is relatively large wrt
to the page. The hints described in the manual Uwe points at work to a certain
degree, but are far from guaranteeing correct placement. At any rate, they
should only be used on the very last draft, when no more text editing is going
to happen.

To make matters worse, the algorithm may end up placing part of the float *on
top* of regulat text, thus making it unreadable.

My current method is to use regular floats up until the end, and then convert
them to wrap floats before the final print/pdf generation. This process would
be
much easier if LyX offered a facilty to convert figure floats to wrap float,
instead of requiring manual conversion.
I am not sure it it would be easy, or even possible, but it would be a grealy
welcome feature.

S.

Floating wrapper figure with image drawn out of page

2009-03-19 Thread Grzegorz Adam Hankiewicz
I'm usiing Lyx 1.6.2 under Macosx to put a floating wrapped figure
with a .tiff image inside a framed box. I don't know what I'm doing
wrong, but the image is being placed near the bottom of the page so
that it is half drawn outside, and the next page also contains the
space reserved for the float, but with no image.

Difficult to explain, so here's the test case and generated pdf:

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/145894/floating.lyx
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/145894/floating.pdf

Any ideas on what could I do?

Right clic on the wrap:Figure inset box, and then Settings and check
Allow floating

I hope this fix the issue
