What is the purpose of right clicking on a hyperlink *inside* LyX?

None.

Reproduce: [Insert] [Hyperlink]; add a link; right click on inserted
 hyperlink
icon and the following pop up message appears: No action defined!

 What can I define where?

Absent your modifying the source code, I suspect you cannot define any actions.

Can I open this link from *within* LyX? That would be
 perfect.

Not AFAIK.

 Anybody any idea? Many thanks!

I think hyperlinks are treated as insets. Right-clicking an inset in LyX
normally brings up a context menu. Left-clicking an inset normally
opens/collapses it. In the case of a hyperlink inset, though, left-clicking
opens up the dialog box for it. Since there's nothing else you can do with a
hyperlink (at least currently) other than modifying the text or URL, there's no
need for a context menu, and apparently none is defined (hence the no action
message). There may be other inset types where a left click does all that can
be done with them, although at the moment none come to mind.

I see, this is just some kind of place holder in the source. Why not use this
for opening the defined link? Might be useful to improve the
writing-reading-writing flow.
