I have gma 965+gnome+ubuntu 11.04 and experiencing the same problem. and it has
definitely something to do with X because X appears to use a lot of cpu while
scrolling.

What is the output of "lyx -version" ?

if it was really in X then combination of hardware+drivers could be

2011-03-20 Thread Joon Ro

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding video drivers, I'm using intel graphics and did not do any
modification regarding xorg or graphic drivers.

I ran it through terminal as well, but there were no error message.

A couple of updates. Now I installed lyx 1.95rc1-2.3 from the
KDE:Unstable:Playground/KDE_Release_46_openSUSE_11.4 repo, and it feels
more responsive.

I need to use it more to be sure though.

One thing I noticed now is that maybe float tables were causing this.
LyX becomes slow when there is a table present on the screen.
So even in the same document, when I'm editing a part of the document
where there is no table visible in the lyx window, it is very responsive.
But if table is visible on the window not only scrolling but also typing
becomes slow.
If I click on float: Table button to collapse the table float, it becomes
faster again.

(I tried this with float: Figure as well but it seems float: Figure does
not affect this)

I'm using

\usepackage{multirow}
\usepackage{tabularx}

in the preamble.

Thank you,
Joon

Hi Joon.

Guessing: There have been changes in Xorg, and the detection system for
the display/keyboard/mouse/etc.

Could it be that 11.4 installed a video driver without acceleration?

(I'm a rather casual user of OpenSUSE, and I don't know how this is
managed there. However, I did have quite an encounter with the xorg
changes starting to depend on dbus)

Also, did you run LyX from a terminal to check if there isn't a load of
messages appearing?

I am the one who packaged LyX in that KDE:Unstable repo and am using LyX
regularly, but am not experiencing your problem.

I have an nvidia card and using the nvidia proprietary drivers.

Hm, I also run openSuse 11.4, although I have compiled LyX myself. I do not
experience this.

In openSUSE 11.4, scrolling in LyX RC1 very slow

2011-03-19 Thread Joon Ro
Hi,I recently upgraded to openSUSE 11.4 (from 11.3). I installed LyX from one of the KDE unstable repo (the only ones have lyx 2.0), and the scrolling is not only very slow, but also it consumes huge CPU usage. I tried to compile LyX from the source, but it was slow as well. (Actually I did this first because I did not want to add unstable repo)In openSUSE 11.3 this did not happen. Any ideas where to look? Could it be related to QT?-Joon
